Best news I've heard all week.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 05:51:55

Why on Earth would you punish the victims of a crime. In any case.

if it is true that the real people Patel wishes to get are the people traffickers, why on earth is she punishing those desperate folk who think that their only choice is to turn to the traffickers?

It really is the most barbaric of policies.

Just to clarify - I never report any posts. It’s not in my nature.

I think what is becoming more and more obvious is that the ugliness of UKIP has infiltrated the Tory party. Patel is the daughter of a staunch ukipper.

Similar to Le Pen in France.

The far right is trying to worm its ugly way into British politics, but I am hopeful that the tide is turning and people are beginning to reject it just as our parents did in the 30s.

Reopen Manston.
Off the boat and straight on to the plane. ✈️

Once word gets round the migrants will stop paying the traffickers. Shocking trade, highly lucrative.

Of course this is good news and I find it astonishing that anyone can think differently.
Already this year we’ve had over 10,000 of these mostly economic migrants pitching up in Kent courtesy of the illegal smugglers, and unless an effective deterrent is found, the numbers will just keep increasing.

At least the Rwanda plan has the potential to stop this illegal trade in its tracks.
Let’s hope it does.

1. 75% of those who apply for asylum, get it.
2. Because of Brexit, we have a shortage of workers (eg baggage handlers?).
3. We are separating men from their families. To put that in Tory terms, those children will need money spent on supporting them.
Last time, when those of Jamaican heritage were repatriated:
4. Some had no family there and had come to UK as babies.
5. 5 were themselves murdered.
6. We were told they were all murderers and rapists. That was not true.

7. This is supposedly a Christian country (eg see Jubilee celebration at St Pail's, God Save The Queen). This is an act of barbarity, not Christianity, nor any other major religion.
8. We have been lied to about what Rwanda is like, and how much this will cost.

These men are human beings, not cattle. Their families have seen terrible things. UK Govt is just adding to that.

You who have everything, security, a family in safety, enough to eat, a couple of homes.

I weep for your inhumane rhetoric.

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jun-22 07:27:12

Well, well.

I understand Sri Lankan nationals were intercepted in Australian waters and taken to Christmas Island before boarding an Australian government charter flight".

You see Boris if you have the desire most anything can be achieved without a lot of fuss and you can nip the whole business in the bud in short time..and this from a newly minted Labor government too - imagine that!!

DillytheGardener Sat 11-Jun-22 07:30:24

I think the policy is inhumane. The stories from the system they are copying in Australia are barbaric, children detained from infancy to adulthood, severe mental health problems cause by stress and trauma, a child suicide rate that takes your breath away. I realise we are politically very far apart, but I am surprised in your taking such delight in this Urm

What I think was ruled was that the Home Secretary has a right to carry out government policy, it was not a judgement on the policy, and it’s legality under international or HR law.

The case has now being taken to the court of appeal on Monday.

It is hoped that the asylum seekers will win on human rights grounds.

What I don’t understand is that the BBC is reporting that “

“Under the policy, some of those entering the UK illegally will be flown to Rwanda to apply for asylum there”

But they don’t want to apply for asylum in Rwanda - they want to apply for asylum in the U.K.

“There will be a full judicial review, where the High Court will hear a challenge to the policy as a whole, before the end of July, it heard.”

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 07:49:32

Patels family missed a trick there

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 07:50:49

I’ll try again bet there is 2?

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 07:51:01

See????

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 07:53:28

I wonder which airlines will dare carry out this evil act. They will be boycotted for sure.

People are already finding out who is contracted to carry this cargo of human misery.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 07:56:05

Oh apparently the airlines have refused. Patel has had to resort to hiring private jets.

Kandinsky Sat 11-Jun-22 07:57:35

Something has to be done as they are entering our country illegally. & risking their lives in the process.
This thread will never be a true reflection of how the majority of people in this country feel about this issue. most will agree with the op.

DiamondLily Sat 11-Jun-22 07:58:17

I think it may catch on.

Sweden are talking to Rwanda and Ghana about sending some of their asylum seekers there, and America are, apparently, talking to Spain about sending some of theirs over to Spain.

Perhaps global dispersion will be seen as some sort of answer to stop this trafficking.

It did work with Australia. As soon as enough people realised they wouldn't be able to stay where they liked, the trafficking trade dried up.

Which is good - people trafficking is an evil trade, and despite the money we've given them, the French show little enthusiasm for stopping it at their borders, and keeping the migrants there.?

Maudi Sat 11-Jun-22 08:07:53

I'm with Urmstongran on this ?

I'd like to know what the lefts solution is to this problem, open borders let all and sundry in? Then moan that the NHS queues are getting longer, build more accommodation to house them all while British people have been waiting years to get a place of their own then moan Boris is not building enough houses, will they only be happy when England's green and pleasant land has disappeared under bricks and mortar perhaps build tower blocks to ruin our landscape.

The only people benefitting are the so called human rights lawyers (I wonder if they would pursue these cases if there was no legal aid, I doubt it) they are getting richer by the day and the people smuggler gangs growing wealthy on the backs of the desperate. Seems the left think this is OK.

Urmstongran Sat 11-Jun-22 08:16:55

Maudi I think there is a silent majority who agree. Just less representation on GN!

Once the flow across the Channel in rubber dinghies becomes a mere trickle the flights will stop. Word will have got round we mean business. The softly-softly approach hasn’t worked.

I notice those who don’t agree with Boris, Biden or Mr. Albanese aren’t coming up with alternative solutions.

Kandinsky Sat 11-Jun-22 08:20:15

Basically yes.

JenniferEccles Sat 11-Jun-22 08:21:12

The government has repeatedly stated that our doors are not completely shut to all immigration, in that these in genuine need who apply through the accepted channels, will have their cases examined.
This system will enable us to choose who comes here, to choose those who have skills needed to enable them to work, pay taxes and contribute to our country.

Tens or hundreds of thousands turning up in flimsy dinghies on our shores is wrong on every level.

Thankfully those on here claiming to be horrified at the government’s attempt to defeat the evil of people smuggling are very much in the minority in this country.

We voted to protect our borders.

You are certainly not alone Urms!

Like others, I'm not going to engage and maybe the people who think this is a good idea can revel in their echo chamber.

However, I will correct disinfirmation.

The people going from the US to Spain will be temporary workers. Australia's system resulted in people losing their minds in detention, or killing themselves, and they have been widely criticised for the approach. I don't know about Sweden and Ghana, but I'm sure you have all the facts readily available. hmm

Lots of things "catch on" but that doesn't make them right. Deportation and slavery "caught on", but for all the wrong reasons.

At least I'm getting a list of people who are to be avoided in other threads.

aint that the truth sad

Kandinsky Sat 11-Jun-22 08:32:10

There!s something really sinister going on there.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 08:48:20

Here is something interesting

If we had accepted every single asylum seeker last year it would have meant that it would have less than one person for every single city, town or village.
