Best news I've heard all week.

LilyoftheValley Sat 11-Jun-22 11:40:16

If they had come the civilised and proper way into the UK I would support them. They have cheated and deserve to be relocated. Having been through no terrorist and health checks we have no idea what is being brought into our country.

paddyann54 Sat 11-Jun-22 12:03:22

We may have no idea of who is coming in but we sure as hell know the vile mindset of the people who are here as witnessed on this thread.I always said Brexit was the biggotted and the braindead and its just been proven .

Which way is the civilised and proper way?

I'm fed up with those who grossly magnify the scale of the 'problem' and then complain that no one offers any alternative 'solutions'.

We see every day that the country is grinding to a halt because of 'workforce' problems largely because so many EU nationals have sensibly gone home sensing they weren't welcome here. Why not see whether more Syrians, Afghans and others can tolerate us, and welcome them?

Why isn't that seen as an alternative solution?

Kandinsky Sat 11-Jun-22 12:12:31

The reason people aren’t happy about you posting on this thread is because you openly told people you were reporting the op ( for what exactly? agreeing with government policy? ) when that didn’t work & the thread was allowed to stand - because it’s not breaking any rules - you then say you’re keeping a list of people who agree with the op.
Why don’t you just stay away from posters / threads you clearly don’t agree with & give us a rest?
I mean, you’re always promising it but never quite manage it? hmm

winterwhite Sat 11-Jun-22 12:14:10

Here's another 'alternative solution'.

If we don't want refugees we should stop supplying arms to warring countries. We do it because it is profitable, and those who vote for supporters of such should not then huff and puff about the human consequences.

Attempts to call out bigotry and racism are always welcomed by most of us Kandinsky.

Thank you Casdon.

Kandinsky, I don't care whether you agree with what I'm writing or not. I suppose keeping track of people then saying "if you don't like it then just p*** off" is a way of dealing with things in some parts of the population.

CaravanSerai Sat 11-Jun-22 12:24:34

Exactly winterwhite e.g. poor Yemeni's trying to find a safe haven from Saudi aggression using arms that Truss illegally sold to them. What is it that right wing posters here find palatable about children dying from starvation?

Off topic but in response to LilyoftheValley's unpleasant post, I'd just like to add that we have no idea what is being brought into the country anyway now that post-Brexit we no longer check fresh food at the border.

To add to this, the leaked white paper for Johnson's new food strategy suggests the country looks to increase the consumption of deer meat. Are we not just emerging from a two year pandemic caused by a zoonotic virus? Madness.

People need to listen to this. This is a transcript of some of what this poor man said:

I wanted to stay in Syria. I never wanted to be called a refugee ... I stayed as long as I could hoping that things would change. Then Russia came with their airforce. Russia is responsible for mass destruction in Syria. Russia used weapons that nobody could even imagine. Rockets and airborne weapons. The airplanes would come over our neighbourhoods and leave them completely destroyed. Nothing is left. There were massacres. I feel happy for Ukrainians because they found someone to stand with them ...

So, I ask those people saying it is right to send refugees to Rwanda, why do we care more about a Ukranian refugee than a Syrian refugee forced to flee under the same circumstances? Both deserve our compassion and support.

There is a major difference between refugees from Syria and those from Ukraine, CaravanSerai, and of course they both deserve our compassion and support. Think skin colour...

It is quite ridiculous that we are not allowing refugees and asylum seekers to work when we are so short of workers in (just one example) the NHS, and some of them would be qualified to work there. angry

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Jun-22 12:56:35

CaravanSerai there is absolutely nothing wrong with eating venison (or as you called it deer meat) it is very low in fat and also mostly organic as the herds live in natural conditions.

If everyone stayed away from threads they didn't agree with, social media would be pretty dull.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 11-Jun-22 13:16:03

I think what Patel is misjudging is the fact that Britains don’t “do” fascist policies.

We fought a war and won against a regime that saw some members of the human race as not being entitled to human rights.

We haven’t forgotten that and she should be mindful of this fact.

CaravanSerai Sat 11-Jun-22 13:26:50

GrannyGravy Do you know much about deer stalking and what needs to be done immediately after a deer is killed? Do you know about food hygiene regulations and what checks must be done on a deer carcass? Do you know about the risk of ecoli is if the kill is not clean and if gralloching is not done quicky and expertly to prevent gut contents contaminating the meat?

You might like to read this about carcass inspection.

www.thedeerinitiative.co.uk/uploads/guides/159.pdf

And finally, have you read any of the reports about the spread of coronovirus in deer herds? These are not farmed animals subjected to regular surveillance and farmer/vet drug interventions to stop address infections and viruses. They are wild animals whose meat must be subject to the most rigorous checks to ensure that deadly infections do not enter the food processing and consumer chain.

Any increase in consumption must have behind it the skilled people necessary to carry out these checks. When we have a government which is no longer bothered if we are importing and buying contaminated food how can we have confidence that these checks will be done?

Kandinsky Sat 11-Jun-22 13:39:52

Of course. Social media is full of people who love arguing all day, we all know that. But there’s a big difference in having a different opinion and wanted to shut threads down, just because you don’t like what’s being said.
And it’s usually left wingers who want that complete control.

volver Sat 11-Jun-22 13:45:15

Sometimes posts or threads get reported, and GNHQ decide to leave them up, even though the posts are egregiously wrong. Its often because there are enough posters vociferously disagreeing with the initial premise of the thread, that its better to leave it up there because it demonstrates that most posters are able to make sensible comments and not tolerate bigotry and racism.

Just saying.

grannyactivist Sat 11-Jun-22 14:04:20

Should Ukrainians fleeing war also be sent to Rwanda? And if not, why not?

Syrians, Afghans, Sri Lankans are also fleeing war/oppressive regimes - what’s the difference in the way the government (and some people on GN) view them versus the people of Ukraine?

I’m happy to say that my home town has equally supported people from Ukraine and from Syria, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. All have been welcomed here and are making a good life in the UK, contributing to the local economy and paying taxes.

This is the only poll I could find, and it seems the majority do support the government, including Labour voters:

I've noticed when certain left leaning posters haven't got an answer or don't like a post they try and make fun of the poster.

I suppose it makes them feel good about themselves hey ho whatever floats your dinghy smile

The answer is, and we're fed up repeating but we keep being told we have no answer: create safe and legal routes and process the migrants in the UK.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Jun-22 14:22:54

Petera starting the process in refugee camps full of displaced people could be a solution. Cut out the vile trade of human trafficking/people smuggling.

volver Sat 11-Jun-22 14:23:08

Hmm.

I guess it depends who you ask and whether they are Daily Mail readers and whether you ask them about the actual plan being proposed.

Another poll, two days later.

Thanks for that. I’m no good at links, but IPSOS has published detailed charts etc that show a different overall result.

I think that anti- immigration is certainly falling in the U.K. and tolerance more widespread.

Casdon Sat 11-Jun-22 14:26:16

YouGov have carried out a survey.

‘The Government has proposed a deal where some people who have entered Britain and applied for asylum will be flown to Rwanda, in Africa, for their asylum applications to be processed. Do you support or oppose this proposal?’

Strongly support. 20%
Tend to support. 15%
Tend to oppose. 15%
Strongly oppose. 27%
Don’t know. 23%

Yes, if the will is there it can be competently, humanely and swiftly carried out.

Well, well.

I understand Sri Lankan nationals were intercepted in Australian waters and taken to Christmas Island before boarding an Australian government charter flight".

You see Boris if you have the desire most anything can be achieved without a lot of fuss and you can nip the whole business in the bud in short time..and this from a newly minted Labor government too - imagine that!!

Just because other countries do it, doesn’t make it right.

Careful now, your lack of care for humanity is showing.
