There are individual position papers to come but I thought some might be interested in reading the this.

Thank you Petera for the details. I consider myself told (in a nice way). One way or another Indy2 won’t go away until it’s held. I for one have never thought ‘you’re too wee’ etc. I admit I’m not a fan of Nicola Sturgeon as I think the SNP’s governance has been abysmal (some even say this renewed vigour for another tilt at independence is a deflection) but I wish you all well. Truly. I get it.

I’d just prefer it if you stayed. ?

John Laurie ?

Born Dumfries
Died Chalfont Saint Peter.

A citizen of the United Kingdom like so many of my Scottish friends.

Is that meant to be a defence of the Union?

I don't know anyone personally who is in favour of Scottish independence but then, all my Scottish friends and acquaintances (and DH's relatives) left Scotland for work and other reasons and settled elsewhere years ago.

Yes, I'd prefer Scotland to remain but would respect the views of the majority in a referendum.

The brexit nonsense has showed us just how complicated, expensive and destructive it is to try to break up a 40 year old union.

The prospect of breaking up a 400 year old union is too appalling to contemplate.

300 years. Same as we told you the last time.

Just for background information then, was it?

Aveline Tue 14-Jun-22 20:29:01

Scottish govt couldn't even run the census. Transport? Don't make me laugh. That 'iconic bridge' wasn't finished on time, dangerously ices up etc etc. Rail timetables recently cut by half.
Desperate shortage of staff in NHS. Why? Because Nicola Sturgeon cut the training places when she was health minister. The list of crass decision making and cover ups is veeeery long.

volver Tue 14-Jun-22 20:32:18

Do we need to explain the difference between the SNP and Scotland again Aveline? Because you don't seem to be getting it.

Incidentally, that iconic bridge was finished on time, and under budget. It's used in Project Management courses as an example of a well run project.

It just seems like 400 years

850,00 Scots live in Engand and Wales

Perhaps because the weather is better?

Now that's the kind of argument I could warm to.

Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning?

Isn't it actually the little-known notorious seventh verse of the National Anthem?

It’s not better in Wales. Cardiff is the wettest city in the UK, and the official wettest place is also in Wales. It’s Capel Curig, which is in the heart of Snowdonia. Boo, it’s not a record I’m proud of.

Don't tell everyone that ???
We won't get any tourists!
(it's been lovely today)

I always thought that Derry was the wettest city in the UK followed by Inverness?

This was where I saw it - www.yourweather.co.uk/news/trending/where-is-the-wettest-place-in-the-uk-weather-rain.html
The rain certainly doesn’t seem to be affecting the tourists this year, it’s like Paddy’s market every day here (in fact it’s better for business when it rains as the cafes are busy and all the outdoor chops are thronged with people buying coats) - I’m sure it’s the same in Scotland as well.

Zonne Tue 14-Jun-22 23:19:28

I’m in Orkney, and it’s presently working very hard to be the wettest place.

There was a nice Twitter snark saying lots of Dim, not much Simmet by Orkney and Shetland libraries earlier which about sums it up.

volver Tue 14-Jun-22 23:32:12

You'd need your simmet in Shetland. ?

Zonne Wed 15-Jun-22 00:13:05

And there I was congratulating myself on stopping my auto-correct from changing it to summer!

Aveline Wed 15-Jun-22 06:39:44

volver I can only assume we not thinking of the same bridge. The one I'm thinking of was completed late and has had to be closed several times over the winter. Of course books, once printed, can't keep up with events as they evolve.

volver Wed 15-Jun-22 06:51:52

No no. We're thinking of the same bridge.

It's just that you're wrong about completion dates.

People who don't understand project management have trouble differentiating between stretch dates and contingencies. The times I've had to explain that to folk IRL, it would make your hair curl.

volver Wed 15-Jun-22 07:01:13

Oh, and the closures? Three times since 2017. Not "several times over the winter". I do think they should have had a plan in place for that though.

Reminds me of the of the governing of England.
Failed costly projects, transport curs, NHS iIn a mess, cover ups!
All sounds familiar South of the border.

We have a plan to put the border from Cairnryan to Cockburnspath via Peebles, but its a secret. Don't tell anyone.?

I don't think the people in Galway and Dumfries or the people further east, will be pleased with that. You're giving England a swath of land that has been fought over far more than the rest of Scotland.
