The news has just announced there were another 300 refugees crossed the channel today. They have risked being deported to Rwanda rather than stay in France. I wonder how France feels about this?

I am English first, British second and European third.

I don't think you're devious Chestnut I think mostly people don't even know they're doing it. It's subconscious.

Where do I fit in the scheme you describe? With the English or the non-English? Remembering that you were making the point that the non-English were being allowed to share in your gifts.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-Jun-22 18:27:17

volver I would say that you are Scottish first, British second and European third.

No offence intended, just how your posts appear.

I'm Scottish, European then British.

But never English. ?

No offence taken.

I was so tempted to put that order, but I didn’t want to cause offence X

Catscatscats Not only have we got just as many people crossing into the UK but, thanks to Brexit, we are in a worse position to help them or our own people.

I'm British first, European second and Essex Girl third.

I'm not suggesting you think I'm devious! I'm saying I'm not devious enough to think the way you seem to be thinking, finding hidden meanings in everything and then suggesting I have an unconscious bias in my beliefs. Oh poor me, I don't even realise what I'm saying.
It wasn't me who suggested we 'share our gifts' with the world. I was responding to another poster who said we should. I was proving that we do share our gifts with the rest of the world because people from various other countries are being housed, none of those countries being in the British Isles except one who was English.

We have more people crossing the Channel and applying for asylum (and goodness knows how many under the radar) and more people coming from non-EU countries, especially India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. I don't have anything against any of them, but is this really what people wanted? Meanwhile, we have a shortage of fruit pickers, lorry drivers and hospitality staff.

MaizieD I wonder why whenever a chancellor/shadow chancellor or most government/shadow government ministers are interviewed why the taxes increase to pay back X, Y & Z is never challenged by the interviewer?

It’s almost as if the media are complicit…

Most interviewers aren't economically literate.

Ah, OK, so you're calling me devious.

All clear now.

I'm British first, European second and Essex Girl third.

I am an honorary Essex Girl, having had a base/secondary family home here since the age of 14yr & 10months.

Curlywurly No, I'm not furious, I just thought it would help a bit in restricting the number of people who came here.

And on the issue of taxation and funding, why, if they are two totally different issues, do people say 'such as waste of taxpayers' money' when talking about this aborted flight to Rwanda?

As more of the world becomes uninhabitable because of climate change more and more people will need to move to the UK. It is the tip of the iceberg that we have seen up to now. We need to learn to share our resources and be mindful of our own impact on the planet and on resources.

Exactly.

My passport says that I’m British, and that is how I describe myself. Next I see myself as Cornish, and then English.

I see that Patel is intent on electronically tagging innocent people.

I suppose it is less obvious than yellow stars, but the intention is the same.
