I recently started watching GB News and am finding it so interesting. Once you get past the different format to the usual news programmes it is very good. There are so many different views expressed from all political spectrums. I like that contributors are allowed to say their piece and it's then debated. Not just left or right wing views.

Here's one reason why some of us are anti GB News et al:

The above is a survey about the new channels which claim that they are talk shows rather than news channels and are therefore able to bypass some of Ofcom's rules which the Beeb and their ilk adhere to.

That link did not work.
It opened Outlook.
I was emailed the survey today.

I’ve started a thread including a petition for GBNews to be held to
the same standards as other news channels

My morning was going well until I read this thread.....Farage managing to fool a lot of the people a lot of the time still, I see. I expect some of you think that Rees Mogg is a 'real gentleman' too.

I am off to my greenhouse, will find more perception of reality there I suspect in among my woke tomatoes.

Please stop trying to save us from ourselves, we are beyond redemption 🤓😁

This attitude towards GBNews reminds me of my mother when Bouquet of Barbed Wire was on the tv.
She was disgusted but kept on watching it.
Everytime I see one of these angry of Wimbledon posts I’m reminded of the Les Dawson sketches 😂

😂😂😂

Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells

I’ve always found it strange that people who hate GB News / the daily Mail etc spend so much time watching & reading it?

But it’s a case of ‘ I don’t like it so I want it gone’ -
Plus they just like moaning about something to prove how wonderful they are.
People like Nigel Farage are gods gift to them.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it 🤷‍♀️
I too find it, really strange that you people that do not like it persist in watching it and criticising it. Really really strange, if I don’t like a TV programme of any ilk , I just don’t watch it, I do not set about trying to destroy its reputation..🤓

Primrose53 It is good to hear uplifting stories I agree.

I should like to see them broaden out into doing something like an hour a week on how other countries are fairing. Taking a subject matter each time. Perhaps energy would be topical. Not just the EU but Africa, South America etc.
How expensive could it be? There are lot of independent podcasters out there, from whom some good information could be gathered.

Perhaps I'd better let them know how they should run things?gringringrin

Try France24. It's an English speaking channel available on Freesat and Freeview and they do cover countries in depth.

But, it has to be said that Channel 4 do that too. A couple of days ago I saw an interesting item about truffle hunters in the Syrian desert. The season for digging up truffles is April to October and the harvesters are the Bedou who live in the region. Unfortunately they are being attacked and killed by Isis. Remember them? They were successfully defeated and removed from their urban strongholds and so they retreated into the Syrian desert where they are now recuperating and stealing the truffle harvest which can be sold for 36 euros a kilo.

Apparently the truffles are not the same as the European varieties since they are twice the size and bland.

Why do some people dislike GB News so much? Surely if you don’t like something you don’t watch. Why does it bother some people so much? There is an off switch you know. Or watch a channel you prefer.
Just saying.

You do tend to hear from both sides in those discussions, don't you ronib?

What I dislike about the mainstream tv channels is the way they build up the interviewer as if they are some demi god.

They have bias and prejudice, as we all do, but their autonomy grows with every gotcha moment they perform. And it is a performance.

I watched Hardtalk the other day, the interviewer showed bias all the way through the program.
His questions were formulaic, he didn't wait for the answer before he showed disinterest and wanted to move on. He shouted down his subject, and his body posture gave him away, as he delivered what he thought was his coup de grace.
He look pretentious and egotistical.

I remembered why I turn off the news from other channels.

I agree Namsnanny some of the interviewers now think they are the star of the show and are just interested in how they look, trying to constantly talk over and shout down their guest. One of the reasons I prefer GB News.

I’ve just tuned in to watch it now as there is something on about various factions trying to bring GB News down, will be interesting to watch..

The Daily Express endorsed Liz Truss in the July–September 2022 Conservative Party leadership election

The paper's editorial stances have often been seen as aligned to Euroscepticism and supportive of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), and other right-wing factions including the European Research Group (ERG) of the Conservative Party.

Why are you interested in a, what was it on Wwmk list? a 47th channel that you don't watch?
Life is too short.

Tonight GB News highlighted one of their presenters, Patrick Christys who has raised thousands for MIND by losing 4 stones and performing with the Dream Boys. He has had dreadful depression in the past so it was a cause close to his heart. He was interviewed by Lee Anderson who is also a newish presenter as well as an MP. He was saying that he works very closely with a mental health charity in Nottingham for men with problems. They were both discussing why men find it so hard to discuss their feelings unlike a lot of women. He then interviewed a lovely man with Motor Neurone Disease who is also raising money for charity.

It’s topics like these that draw me to GB News.

I like Gbnews and am bored with the other news channels. It’s refreshing to hear discussions as opposed to the mainstream newsreader approach.

Is GB"News" the tv equivalent of The Daily Express?

Is that a gauntlet, a smear, or a stir grin
Or if none of the above, perhaps you could just ask the Daily Express, I'm sure they would reply.

Again I ask why all this angst?

Is GB"News" the tv equivalent of The Daily Express?

Namsnanny Fri 07-Jul-23 19:51:43

The TV industry is worth 15-20 billion.
That is why the other channels are running scared.
And so they should be. Streaming is taking a lot of their revenue.
They need a more popular channel like a hole in the head.
Barb includes ad. companies. the 5 top channels influenced advertisers NOT to put ads on GBn.
Alls fair in love and money you may say.

I say, look how far GBn has come, without the backing the other stations have.

What is perplexing me is why GNetters have a vested interest?

ronib Fri 07-Jul-23 19:47:11

I think Gb news is cornering the market.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jul-23 19:45:00

The point is that GBNews isn’t in competition with other main news outlets, it is in competition with other entertainment outlets and is doing abysmally.
