The Tory party needs a leader who demonstartes the prevailing standards of moral probity or intelligence

How about Chris Pincher or David Warburton if moral probity is key or Nadine Dorries or Jacon Rees Mogg to demonstrate the typical level of intelligence?

Dishi Rishi Sunak…

I would have thought that any member of the present cabinet would not be considered as leader because of their reputation and that their membership of this dreadful cohort would make them toxic.
~there are other Tory Mp's who have talent...look at Tom Tugendhat who was ignored by Johnson , because of some previous confrontation.

MOnica we agree on the honesty issue. Thatcher was honest
Any of Johnson’s cabinet is suspect because of what looks like blind loyalty. Zahawe suspect for it is alleged, saying he’d resign if not given the job if Chancellor.
Tom Tughenhat, Johnny Mercer, Javid all seem bright and motivated to do what they believe to be right. Javid’s speech today was worth listening to
Can’t think if a conservative woman ?

Petronella Wyatt in today's Daily Mail.
"Boris is the best liar we have ever had as Prime Minister, and has successfully perpetuated the notion that all politicians lie, and so he is no worse than the next one.

'This canard has been unforgivable. My father, Woodrow Wyatt, was a politician for forty years and Margaret Thatcher and members of her Cabinet were frequent guests at our home.

'They did not lie their heads off, though sometimes obfuscation is a necessary part of a politician's armory. Thatcher, who had unimpeachable probity, would be horrified by Boris, not only the man, but his determination to cling inelegantly to office to the detriment of the country.'

Penny Mordant? She is mentioned as a front runner. I don’t know much about her, but she’s not closely associated with blojo

NotSpaghetti Thu 07-Jul-22 06:31:32

Don't forget, Margaret Thatcher couldn't accept her time was up either - but she was prepared to listen to Denis eventually.

Petera Thu 07-Jul-22 06:35:25

I've been puzzling about Johnson's future. We all know what normally happens to figures like these when they retire at a (relatively) young age.

But do you think that after this display he will still be invited on to boards/play the elder statesman/go on the rubber chicken circuit?

M0nica Thu 07-Jul-22 06:48:06

.Petera He won't, anymore than David Cameron has been. That is why DC ended up going into business with a dodgy Australian financier. It was the only money on offer.

Both of them are political lightweights and BJ now has such a renowned reputation as a liar and cheat, that no one will want to employ him. he will have to fall back to being a jobbing journalist, probably unable to use his name on his articles because of his doubtful reputation.

I am convinced that the reason he is refusing to resign is because he needs the pay that goes with the PM's job to make ends meet - and even then I do not think they do.

If he goes he has two homes, a wife, many, many children and himself all to be maintained on an MP's salary.

I don’t agree that Boris has no sort of future, money wise.

Perhaps not straightaway, but in time, I think he will be an after dinner speaker, write a tell-all book, present certain tv programmes, write more journalistic type stuff.

People are still interested in all the shenanigans and kiss and tell stuff, especially when it’s all died down.

M0nica Thu 07-Jul-22 07:16:34

That will supply a year or twos income, But I really do not think he has any credence as an after dinner speaker. His moral reputation is so low and he is a very poor speaker and lacks any wit or humour. Nor do I think any tv company will touch him with a barge pole and most people seeing his name on an article, will probably avoid it.

i suppose he might get some invites to tell dirty jokes at posh stag dos.

maddyone Thu 07-Jul-22 09:22:54

I think you’re saying what you think, not what necessarily will be Monica. I think a few months down the road he’ll probably be doing all the things Calendargirl suggests.
As for supporting his ‘many, many’ children, most of them are well grown up and expected to support themselves, unless one of them is Prince Harry!

karmalady Thu 07-Jul-22 09:27:03

Stephen Baker, I liked his interview, seems to be a steady courageous contender

maddyone Thu 07-Jul-22 09:32:25

BJ is going to resign. Just been announced.

Daisymae Thu 07-Jul-22 09:33:33

Suella Braverman. She has actually less personal awareness than the current incumbent of No. 10

Glorianny Thu 07-Jul-22 09:34:13

I think Boris will become a TV celebrity once again. People knew what he did as Mayor of London and still wanted him as PM, he has a way of sliding out of things and then moving up.

maddyone Thu 07-Jul-22 09:35:03

I think you’re right Glorianny.

PollyDolly Thu 07-Jul-22 09:35:13

Boris is standing down!!!!!!!

Glorianny Thu 07-Jul-22 09:35:33

Just because he resigns it doesn't mean he goes. He might stay as caretaker PM until a replacement is found.

Casdon Thu 07-Jul-22 09:37:21

I suppose four out of seven could be described as ‘most’ maddyone.

I do agree with you regarding his future work potential though, he got to his current role because of his humour, which appeals to lots of people (not me), and no doubt he will have lots of outrageous tales/exaggerations/lies to tell which people will want to hear. He will be a go to for the Daily Mail for sure.

maddyone Thu 07-Jul-22 09:40:56

Why four out of seven Casdon? Genuine question because I thought the children from his divorce were all grown up. He obviously has the two little ones with Carrie, and it is rumoured he has one more, maybe a teenager now, with a previous partner.

maddyone Thu 07-Jul-22 09:42:44

I think the dust will settle and then he’ll be asked to do speeches, write books, etc.

vegansrock Thu 07-Jul-22 09:43:49

Be interesting to see if Rees Mogg keeps his promise he won’t serve under another PM. Could be another piece of good news.

LauraNorderr Thu 07-Jul-22 09:44:04

I hope Tobias Elwood steps forward. As a member I have a vote and he’ll get mine.

Casdon Thu 07-Jul-22 09:46:19

Exactly that maddyone. His four children with his first wife are over 21. He has an acknowledged 13 year old daughter from his affair with Helen McIntyre, and his two children with Carrie who are all minors.
