The Tory party needs a leader who demonstartes the prevailing standards of moral probity or intelligence

How about Chris Pincher or David Warburton if moral probity is key or Nadine Dorries or Jacon Rees Mogg to demonstrate the typical level of intelligence?

You have to take into account that whoever takes on the job they will be leading a party with a very damaged reputation and leading it into the next GE. They will be terrified that the last incredible victory will be followed by an outstanding defeat.

If Carrie Johnson doesn't get the job then my money is on Rishi Sunak.

growstuff Thu 07-Jul-22 10:02:46

Tom Tugendhat maybe

Thank goodness Michelle Donelan has already resigned from Education after one day.

Being PM was an end in itself for Boris, there was no real desire to improve the country in any way.
How seemingly people of integrity are passed over beats me.
In the past, I thought David Steel and Michael Heseltine might have cut it, and Ed rather than his brother mystified me.

Patel or Truss? the world will fall about laughing ,dumb and dumber comes to mind.Though the same can be said of most of the current Tory gaggle of liars ,cheats ,thieves .

Difficult choice for the Tory faithful.

I agree - I like Tobias Ellwood. Seems like a decent bloke.
Thank God Johnson is out! He and Trump were like the worst nightmare. Glad they’ve both gone at last. Democracy doesn’t always produce the best leaders. I didn’t vote for Johnson, I voted for Brexit and against Corbyn. I suspect that lots of other people did likewise.

Truss is very quiet - I know she's been abroad but must be back by now.

She's not PM material, but that seems not to be an impediment.

I think Javid will be a front runner after his speech yesterday. He seems to be the best of a bad bunch

Rishi Sunak was very popular when he was giving all the money away during Covid - who wouldn't be. However, I think the fact that he is a multi millionaire will put people off as he will be perceived as out of touch with the real people.

I hope it isn't Liz Truss. I didn't like the inflammatory comments she made about the war in Ukraine.

Michael Gove has gone very quiet recently and Boris has just sacked him. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't try for the job again.

Glorianny Thu 07-Jul-22 11:04:53

They'll be wondering who can keep the red wall for them. I'm not sure there is anyone.

Juniper1 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:13:15

Let’s hope they choose unwisely again, and we can get a Labour government.
Any of the cutting cabinet would do for this premis

Mordaunt is top favourite with the bookies.

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:15:19

It won’t be me!!!

Buttonjugs Thu 07-Jul-22 11:16:49

Jacob Rees Mog for me! I admire his integrity. Steve Baker when he has had a bit more experience.

Jacob Rees Mogg?! Integrity?! Are you okay?

Buttonjugs Thu 07-Jul-22 11:19:28

Ben Wallace seems to be favourite. I hope so, he’s the best of a bad bunch. The Tories will have to choose carefully and I reckon they’ll be avoiding the Bullingdon Boys.

maturefloosy Thu 07-Jul-22 11:20:19

The Number 10 Cat and Paddington . . . . . . smile

helgawills Thu 07-Jul-22 11:22:27

You can't trust any Tory. They all knew his relationship with truth, honour and integrity was non existent. Still they voted for him, supported him, until public perception changed. Worried about their own futures! I don't have words to describe any of them.

SecondhandRose Thu 07-Jul-22 11:23:41

Sir Keir is a closet conservative. Maybe him.

From Twitter - choosing a new Tory leader is like deciding which portaloo to use at Glastonbury.

Fabulous! And correct. They are all full of s**t.

Toula Thu 07-Jul-22 11:25:15

Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse? All current mp's since Mrs Thatcher are right mucking fuddlers or trucking tankers IMHO

Leolady73 Thu 07-Jul-22 11:26:38

After the last twelve years I don’t trust any of them - they only conserve for themselves. More poverty for working people and more billionaires! Can’t be right!

orly Thu 07-Jul-22 11:27:28

I just hope it's not someone who has dual nationality/passports and can bunk off back to another country when things go wrong.

Peaseblossom Thu 07-Jul-22 11:27:57

Dishy Rishi Sunak?! Really?!

Toula Thu 07-Jul-22 11:28:09

Me too!
