The Tory party needs a leader who demonstartes the prevailing standards of moral probity or intelligence
How about Chris Pincher or David Warburton if moral probity is key or Nadine Dorries or Jacon Rees Mogg to demonstrate the typical level of intelligence?

Tom Tugenhat is I believe is to throw his hat in the mix for leader ( titter) couldn't resist it. BUT he does have French citizenship !! So + or - on that.

Well. In some ways I’ll miss him.
He was a bit different, a bit fun, something we’ve never had before.
He’s seen us through a global pandemic and brexit - 2 of the biggest political & social upheavals in decades. Not many would have coped with all that.
And neither did he. What a shambles.
I don't care! Johnson is an ex Prime Minister. I'm celebrating that and don't want to think about what horrors lie ahead.
(Yes, technically he's still in office but he's nearing the end of the helter skelter.)
Well said,I agree. He is a slime ball.
Just disband the party and start a new one.
Perhaps a Scottish friendly party. We haven’t ever had that in Westminster.
How about what’s the point if ppl vote someone should it not be up to the people ppl to vote them out not a Mp. If you don’t like your job find a new job not do a witch-hunt
Is this a joke?
He hasn't gone yet and will be in post taking decisions until October.
His resignation speech was appalling. There was no apology, contrition or regret. Played the victim to the end. Just compare his demeanor with that of Mrs May when she resigned.
He didn't mean a word of it.
LovelyLady - l like your idea

A PM is not elected by the people. A party leader is chosen by his or her party, who also have the power to deselect and replace that leader.
We ordinary people only get to elect our local MP, so unless you happen to live in the constituency that Johnson represents, his name will never even have appeared on your ballot paper and even then, you would only have the option of selecting him as your representative, not as PM.
Johnson is still an MP, so even when he is no longer in the role of PM, his constituents will still be represented by the person they voted for in the last election.

If anything could cheer me at the moment it's that so many of us mature women can clearly see what a load of immoral, bullying, lying, incompetent, self-serving w*****s we've had, as a so-called government. As for Rees Mogg, he wanted Brexit to avoid the EU tax proposals which would have made him pay tax on his offshore holdings. Unfair, unkind, cynical b******s the lot of 'em!
Jacob Rees Mogg? You are joking right? Stuck up, sucking up to Boris. Little Lord Fauntetoy) (not sure of spelling) or Lord Snooty snob. Don't think so. Steve Baker - "another Boris 'yes man'. None of the present or past Cabinet members deserves that office. Leader must be chosen from outside the cabinet.
Totally agree. Brexit is a big mistake and I am sorry I voted for it.
I dread to think who the next PM will be. Don't think either Patel or Rees Mogg will be a popular choice. I find Rees Mogg very supercilious and Patel always looks smug even when she's talking about negative matters. It's interesting, reading these posts and speaking to people, there doesn't seem to be one bright shining light amongst the candidates.
Sunak can't have it as he was fined under partygate, so we already know he has broken the law - that should preclude him standing.

Seriously?
That's not how it works.
Johnson is a Prime Minister, not a President.

At the risk of getting my head blown off and being called names, I would hate us to have a Muslim prime minister. It’s all wrong. Islam is totally alien to the British people’s culture. I also fear that immigration would increase even more. There are many Muslim mayors in the UK due to the large population of immigrants in certain areas, who would all vote them into power, including the mayor of London. Where I was born and grew up in East London there is actually a Sharia Court and many others throughout the UK. It’s all very wrong.
As far as I can see Sajid Javid isn't a practising Muslim, just a family background, so you need have no fear of Sharia Law.
Rather like Johnson - despite Catholic weddings and Christenings he's not really a practising Christian is he.
Not Rishi Sunak, please, like Raab he doesn’t even believe there are millions of people in this country who earn less than
£25,000. Yet he still taxed them.
Do any of the Cabinet know there are low paid amongst the
hoi polloi?
I think that there are a few decent back benchers who could be promoted. I was watching the Standards committee the other day - Chris Bryant is great when questioning but he is Labour. Tobias Elwood is also very good and he is a Conservative MP who was a serving soldier I believe. He was persistent when questioning Johnson who of course was trying his usual bluster. It was reported that his advisor gave him a note telling him to stop talking.
The Tories will be looking for someone who they think will have a decent chance of leading them to a win in the next general election. That will exclude a number of possible candidates - particularly Braverman, Patel. Javid etc.
I should never read these threads The remarks about Nadine Dorries are hateful. I dislike many female MPs but eould never describe thrm in yhe terms used here. There are people on the left who love to hate anyone who
Disagrees with their politics. But as you are not Conservative members you will not have a say. I do not care how the Labour party chooses their PM but as Jeremy Corbin was chosen nothing more needs to be said. There is no doubt that Boris Johnson has not delivered but then if Sir Keir resigns once the Durham police fine him he will resign. Then Labour will choose a new leader. I will not be throwing dirt about candidates intellect.
It depends who the MSM wants.
Hardly matters. Not one of them could organise a p... up in a brewery. Shame we have to put up with them until a General Election sees the back of them.
Could be an early election and if labour win then it would be a coalition with the SNP - imagine Keir Starmer and Ian Blackford, it would be like Tweedle De and Tweedle Dum.
