Rees Mogg has integrity? The devout Catholic who voted against abortion but owns a company which produces abortion pills? That Mogg? The condescending sneering pencil who lies almost as much as Johnson? Okay then. ?
This ^ ^ ^ ?
The Tory party needs a leader who demonstartes the prevailing standards of moral probity or intelligence
How about Chris Pincher or David Warburton if moral probity is key or Nadine Dorries or Jacon Rees Mogg to demonstrate the typical level of intelligence?

@varian
I do not know if these replies are sarcastic or there are many people who are seeing the Conservatives differently from me.
I do not believe anyone in that self serving party give a dam about anyone but themselves.
So he is going at last!!! Watch this space eh?? Dig more holes you Tory wasters!
What a bunch to lead our nation! I despair I really do !!
Interestingly there are some posters whose names I haven't seen on the political threads before and some of them are still favouring Johnson.
I heard Rory Stewart today - he always seems to speak truthfully. It would be good if he could be selected to stand at the next by-election, whenever that may be. He would make a good PM.
As regards the current lot - none of them. Many of us were aware of Johnson's flawed character and the lies he told, the jobs he was sacked from etc etc. If we knew then Tory MPS must have known. Certainly those on the front bench.
I heard Javid's resignation speech and thought it impressive. However, I'd like to know why he and the other ministers didn't take Johnson to task months ago. The answer - they didn't want to risk losing their jobs.
I am not a Tory supporter and never have been but there has to be decent Tories who do not search for the limelight and we have seen many previously but unfortunately those with voting power do not always recognise these people Dominic Grieve comes to mind as does Anna Soubry - Rory Stewart is another. We would be in a very different place now had Rory Stewart become leader.
Johnson will be hanging on so that he can continue to use Chequers. He is planning to hold his postponed wedding party there and invitations have already gone out. I wonder how many of his colleagues were invited and how many will be accepting?
Of course there are decent Tories, just as you can’t judge Labour by Blair who told a bigger lie than him or by supporters of Corbyn, the least said about him the better. You go by the general principles and aims of the party, but I honestly can’t think of anyone to lead. The person who really gets on my wick is Kier Starmer, his constant whinging about small things and ignorance of the bigger picture, I think he only knows and recites the same few sentences, he really is so boring.
Allsorts

I’m struggling to see the relevance of your post Allsorts, unless you think Keir Starmer is going to switch parties and be the next Tory leader?

Rory Stewart would have to get a constituency first he resigned from Penrith and the Boarders after the last leadership vote.
I honestly can't think of any of the current/recent Cabinet who would make a decent PM.
Maybe someone will emerge from the back benches.
I see Corbyn’s latest tweet suggests setting up a new party after having 3 PM’s in 6 years. Has he been chatting to TonyBlair?
Potential Conservative leaders have been quietly fading into the woodwork to try and avoid guilt by association. Just like many Labour MPs did when Corbyn led the party.
Now we are out of the EU it doesn't have to be a Brexity person does it?
Problem is many of the Tory grassroots are blinkered and stuck on ideology - if Farage were eligible he'd likely win!
Politicians Lie! All of them. Its just a matter of what they are lying about and who they are lying to. They promise things during election campaigns and never follow through. They favour their friends and sponsors and lie about their expenses. They also cover up for each other. Its only when it gets out of hand that they end up having to answer for it. The media deliberately fish for scandal and usually find it. I wouldn't trust any of them to run the country fairly. I don't want a Labour Government that will allow the Unions to rule the country and hold us all to ransome. I remember the power cuts and strikes from the 70's. The Unions have a place to protect workers but they should not be allowed to hold the country to ransome. Still I'm of an age that its not going to make much difference to me so I'll just sit back and watch.
After we have incontrovertible proof of Johnson and many of his ministers lying again and again and again, the last resort of the right wing press is to persuade their more gullible readers that "all politicians are the same"
No they are not.
Peaseblossom, your post was deleted, I saw it quoted by other posters so I’m aware of your fear of the possibility of sharia courts. Your views are ill-informed and could be viewed as racist.
Sharia Courts have existed in the Uk since the early 1980’s. They’re used by some Muslims to arbitrate in civil matters. Campaigners and politicians express concern that Muslim women are discriminated against when family disputes are resolved under Sharia.
My own view is that most Muslim women would benefit more from British civil / family courts, than Sharia. I’m not Muslim, I’m an older feminist so I expect I would take that view.
I’m not in the least worried about the prospect of a Muslim prime minister
Ben Wallace ?
I also read Peaseblossom’s (^now deleted^) post and wrote to several of my former students, both Muslim, Sikh, Christian and un-Religious to welcome the possibility of Britain’s next Prime Minister being a first generation immigrant, as so many of them were in the nineties, and, by chance, also a Conservative MP. What a wonderful retort to the BLM movement with it’s “Britain is as racist as America” agenda, which is blatantly false and as big a lie as any of Johnson’s, and what a contrast to my own upbringing in the 1950’s, in the enormously racist, Medway Towns, now a byword for racial harmony, in the main.
Of course Britain still has the odd racist and we still have far to go, but whether it is Priti, Javid, Stella, Nadhim, Kwasi, Shailesh, or someone completely different, what does this say about how being an immigrant is no barrier, albeit it might be a hurdle, to being successful in UK in 2022.
I didn't read Peasblossom, now deleted post, but it reminded me of the things that used get said about catholics, even in the 1960s.
It was thought that if a catholic got near the levers of power, especially if he became Prime Minster, he would abolish the Church of England, that his main allegiance would be to his faith, and the Pope would be the power behind the government.
Funny how the old myths go round and around, just being updated to match the current zeitgeist.
Tom Tugendhat. Ex-Army. Sound as a pound.
I like Tom T. I’m not a Tory so that may mean he’s not right wing enough for thrm
Rory Stewart like Andy Burnham needs a constituency to be a leader
Andy B very welcome to stand in my marginal red wall seat. It’s here to be won
Kandinsky
Rishi Sunak will probably get the job.
Let's hope he doesn't - his wife only stopped being "non dom". and began paying tax when she was exposed. I remember he said he "was going back to India", how could he do that when he was born in Southampton? He is just as crafty and a liar like Boris. It would be nice to have a straight forward person who really wants to improve the country for the people, someone honest and trustworthy
For those who still support BJ, a reminder of just who he is.

It is beyond credence that anyone might be taking Truss seriously as a candidate.

... it won't make any difference.
He has shown his contempt for the ordinary working class voter - it's there, on record - but they will still support/ vote for him.
Maybe because he also mocks and denigrates the same people that they dislike?
