The Speaker very irate!

Sir Lindsay Hoyle nearly had a meltdown yesterday before he ordered two Alba MPs out of The Commons.

I'm afraid he's not a very commanding Speaker - amiable but not up to the job. He threw out those two but did nothing apart from repeatedly yell "Shut up!" to a Tory on his right.

I bet he's looking forward to the recess!

The Speaker

The poor man needs a microphone! His voice just doesn't carry - unlike Bercow's, you could certainly hear him above the baying mob!

Wouldn't have lasted long in a classroom of difficult children.

Yesterday Hoyle said, ‘I expect better behaviour; and I’m going to get it’.
This and the other things he comes out with, really remind me of a Mid-Day Supervisor (aka Dinner lady) fighting a losing battle with the kids.

Great minds Batty! wink

Bring back Bercow!

BlueBelle Thu 14-Jul-22 07:43:08

Oh yes bring back Bercow little man with a big voice and nig afraid to tackle, anyone like him or loathe him he wasn’t afraid

I wouldn't mind Bercow back, at least he kept order.

Greyduster Thu 14-Jul-22 07:50:41

No one could top Betty Boothroyd in her day! A Yorkshire lass and a force to be reckoned with!

Iam64 Thu 14-Jul-22 08:41:33

Betty Boothroyd and Bercow were giants. I want to like Hoyle but I don’t see him having the power humour and determination to keep order. His voice doesn’t help him and the bear pit noises are tedious.

Blossoming Thu 14-Jul-22 11:12:02

Hoyle isn’t the right person for the job of Speaker.

Callistemon21 Thu 14-Jul-22 12:10:14

I'm sure he's a very nice man but perhaps too nice for the job of Speaker.

Bring back Bercow - ORDER, ORDER

Oldbat1 Thu 14-Jul-22 13:00:04

Nice enough man but weak as the speaker. I liked Bercow as the speaker not commenting about anything else.

eazybee Thu 14-Jul-22 13:14:50

It is the MPs who should be criticised, not the Speaker.
Betty Boothroyd and Lord Tonypandy yes; Bercow no, not impartial.

Esspee Thu 14-Jul-22 13:33:19

I thought he sounded rather ignorant tbh.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-Jul-22 13:36:58

He’s poor.

MadeInYorkshire Thu 14-Jul-22 13:37:01

It was an absolute shambles, and we are paying these 'kids' to act like that!

MadeInYorkshire Thu 14-Jul-22 13:37:28

What other workplace would accept it I wonder?

I agree!
However, few, if any, had a good word to say about Bercow when he occupied the Speaker’s Chair and Hoyle seemed a pleasant, well-mannered, reasonable change -plus he had a good SOH.
If schoolkids are rowdy, I blame the kids , not the teacher!

Hear hear Calli

IMHO Bercow kept to the rules beautifully and was absolutely impartial. I hope he gets that peerage one day. It doesn’t bear thinking about who will be on Johnson’s resignation honours list…

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sun 17-Jul-22 11:10:31

The Banksy picture depicting the House of commons as chimps sums it up exactly I think.

Grantanow Sun 17-Jul-22 11:11:55

I think Hoyle is doing fine. Give him time to develop. Bercow was banned for alleged bullying so I doubt he will get a peerage at all though in my view he was a good Speaker and tried to ensure Brexit was properly considered. But Johnson and Frost are responsible for the Brexit shambles.

leeds22 Sun 17-Jul-22 11:31:43

I like the Speaker. It's the baying mob of MPs who need a kick up the backside. Oh for a civilised House of Commons.

Athrawes Sun 17-Jul-22 11:34:52

He shouldn't have to bellow and shout at the MPs - but they're showing their true colours and I think they're like a whole load of unruly school children who haven't yet grown up and started to act like adults in this environment. And we're meant to vote for these people?????
