Sir Lindsay Hoyle nearly had a meltdown yesterday before he ordered two Alba MPs out of The Commons.

I'm afraid he's not a very commanding Speaker - amiable but not up to the job. He threw out those two but did nothing apart from repeatedly yell "Shut up!" to a Tory on his right.

I bet he's looking forward to the recess!

Bercow was blatantly biased and bullied staff.

Bercow was 'biased' in favour of the supremacy of the Legislature (i.e all the MPs in the House of Commons, regardless of their party) over the Executive (the PM, appointed by the queen who represents the authority of the monarch in parliament and MPs chosen by the the PM to make up their government). There is absolutely no reason why the Legislature should kow tow to the Executive, because it is they, the legislature, that is sovereign..

Bercow was found to be a bully. He is in disgrace for that. Whereas Priti Patel, also found to be a bully, is still in the government hmm

I thought this website was for posting Grandmothers’ problems and frustrations, or even happier events,

... the clue is in the name of the forum "News & Politics".

Grandmothers are not defined purely by their role as grandparents - they vote and take an interest in politics!

And there are forums here for problems - including happy events, under "Chat" and AIBU.

Quite frankly the House of Commons doesn't need a louder-voiced Speaker.

It needs to realise that traditions sometimes need to change and that the bear-garden behaviour of the 17th and 18th centuries should be discontinued.

As far as I have experienced, no other parliament in the world accepts behaviour of this kind from its members.

I used to enjoy listening to the Aussie version of PMQs
Rowdy? They often came close to blows and the language was terrible. I can’t seem to find where to listen now.
I believe Bercow had a bit of an international fan club and whatever you think if him he did make himself heard as did Betty Boothroyd.

How about the Iraqis throwing shoes at each other, we might throw insults but shoes?
I would rather Insults than the whole MP's be frightened to speak against the party line as in China and Russia. What a load of puppets.
Betty Bothroyd and John Bercow had the body shape for deep loud voices poor Lindsey Hoile hasn't. he was my friends MP and she said he was a lovely man.

As one of Sir Lyndsay Hoyle's constituents and see him frequently out and about here in Chorley, I disagree that he's ineffectual. All speakers yell at the baying crowd pr have you forgotten John bercows annoying braying?! Even Betty boothroyd used to tell them to shut up! Sir Lyndsay is a great MP balanced knowledgeable and fair which is probably why he took the seat of speaker. The ineffectuality lies with the members who are incapable of putting a point without resorting to insults and yelling threats! They need their empty heads banging together!
