Kemi Badenoch out of the race.

That's all really. The News is all about the awful fires in London.

Sunak is now only one vote away from the point where he is guaranteed a slot on the final ballot. Previously 120 (just over a third of the total electorate, 357 MPs) was the point where it became mathematically impossible for both other candidates to get more votes, but, with Tobias Ellwood now banned from taking part, 119 is the benchmark. Sunak is on 118. It is almost impossible to believe he will not get there tomorrow. But he has been finding it increasingly hard to pick up votes. In the second ballot he was up 13 votes, and in the third he was up 14 votes. Today he is up just three. (The Guardian)

I am sad that Kemi and Tom have gone - we really do need a new start, with Rishi we will jus have more of what we have had - and he hasn't been totally honest in the past either!

Tom yes, but Kemi?
We've had enough of a lying Prime Minister.
Kemi and The Truth seem to be a contradiction in terms.

Ahh, must have missed something then! My bad ..... I liked Tom, although as unable to work would definitely prefer Sir Kier!

Sunak has removed the Warm Home Discount from the disabled, not that I needed it today, but would help to run air con instead!

*Kemi and The Truth seem to be a contradiction in terms*.

Why do you say that?

Have a look at this thread:
"Now the TV hustings are over, where does that leave us?"

No Callistemon, I am asking you why you said that.

I actually greatly admire the way the Tories dump a leader if they are seen as a vote loser but they do tend to go a little crazy in their choices after a so called charismatic leader. If they choose Liz Truss and the LP dont win against Liz Truss then there is no hope for the labour party.

The number of times Yvette Cooper has already wiped the floor with Truss is a good indicator I’d say Galaxy. Labour will be much happier with her as leader than Sunak, who is competent and nobody’s fool.

If you read the thread you will see.

No Callistemon, I am asking you why you said that.

Would you prefer disingenuous?

Still not a attribute we want in a PM.

eazybee Tue 19-Jul-22 22:23:55

I asked because I wondered what evidence made you say' Kemi and the Truth are a contradiction in terms'.

It seems to be yet another unsubstantiated statement but an unpleasant insinuation.

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Jul-22 22:26:08

Have you listened to her?

Callistemon21 Tue 19-Jul-22 22:26:44

It's irrelevant now, anyway.

She is dodgy of the dodge according to my son. There’s a number of issues apart from her very right wing views.

It seems that several hundred Tory party members have written a letter asking that Johnson's name should be added to the final ballot paper.

Were all the letters in the same handwriting and posted in the postbox near Downing Street?

Galaxy Tue 19-Jul-22 22:51:43

I might disagree with her on issues but there was nothing particular in there that indicated lying.

Hacking somebody’s website is a pretty serious offence.

She lied when she promised to move to her constituency, if elected. She lied about her background in Nigeria. She deliberately misled about her career as an "engineer".

Unfortunately, it isn't because she'll probably be given a high profile cabinet job.

I can’t take credit for the “Truss would be out of her depth in a birdbath” line as I read it somewhere else but it is hilarious.?

Love it!
I think a writer in the Times described Truss as having all the personality of a boiled sprout - unfair to sprouts.
Personally I think she is a very dangerous woman , despised and mocked abroad as Foreign Secretary and with the flakiest grasp of Economics since Cadbury invented the Milk Flake. In charge? God help us.
Anyway as it is all rather gloomy, I hoped this Matt cartoon might cheer us up

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 20-Jul-22 07:52:22

During one of the TV debates, Kemi B mentioned in passing that Brexit was done. FFS of course it isn’t! If that’s not lying I don’t know what is.

Urmstongran Wed 20-Jul-22 11:16:24

Well I was gutted Kemi is out of the running. My overall feeling is the Tory MP’s were happily rearranging the deckchairs of the Titanic rather than taking Kemi's lifeboat.

Kemi was offering an old kind of Conservatism, one that had been abandoned as the party moved further and further to the left.

And should the appalling Mordaunt get in, then they might as well re-name themselves the Conservative Liberal Democrats.

Kemi Badenoch was the Conservative's future. And their ‘business as usual, blinkered, pudding-headed MPs have blown it. Labour will be delighted with Truss. Her wooden delivery makes even Keir Starmer seem charismatic. Labour will win the next GE now in January 2024.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 20-Jul-22 11:19:27

Hope you're right about the next GE, Urmstongran (although sooner would be even better). It's the only hope we've got.

grin That made me laugh Elegran, thank you.

Heard yesterday.
The Tory party choosing a new leader from their ranks after offing Johnson is like soiling your pants and then only changing your shirt.

I heard someone say "Truss would be out of her depth on a damp pavement"

Boz Wed 20-Jul-22 12:05:09

Why would anyone want old-fashioned conservatism back? Badenoch is most unpleasant and a little chancer.
