Truss’s original comment about the school came from an interview in which she said that on arriving at Oxford her new peers were no more intelligent than her old peers in 6th form Leeds comprehensive the only difference was that they had been privately educated and that’s why she felt that Roundhay her school had failed it’s pupils. More could have been done to get them to Oxbridge. She is now insisting that all state school pupils of certain attainment automatically get considered by Oxbridge. Her two daughtersc(Liberty and Frances - up the revolution) go to state grammars. And the eldest, 16 does her Instagram account .. not her.
And I agree with jenniewmd re Scotland and NS. And thank you for those who spelt out what Great Britain really means, just the biggest island which is why Northern Ireland has to be tagged on the end - not because they are not great! The confusion is encouraged eg TeamGB when it should be TeamUK … it just feeds the nationalist feelings of superiority.
My children went to adjacent north Leeds comprehensives at the time, like her parents, for political reasons
but I had to pay for private maths tutors for both as the schools kept losing / didn’t have maths teachers. And that is no frill it is required for basic matriculation. The local authority (Labour in Leeds) were in control of education at the time.
….Whereas at Leeds Girls High (private) 4* A-levels are expected with over 90% of pupils.. they had theatres and swimming pools orchestras… were they brighter? No says Liz. And so do I. Oxbridge shouldn’t just be for the privileged. That’s what she meant.

I guess she knows what the school was like and you don’t!. Did you go to Oxford or Cambridge, just wondering. I don’t think you get to go to Oxford or Cambridge to study PPE if you are of limited intelligence.

I taught and researched for 25 years at a Russell group university and I will confirm that there are many terminally thick students there who got top results in their A levels.

This sort of comment by Petera is exactly why I do not believe everything I read on forums.
I do not like Liz Truss but have the common sense to realise that a person does not get into Oxford or Cambridge by being terminally thick, or thick of any kind, especially with the use of the word many.
The only not bright enough students perhaps, who attended these universities being members of the royal family.
Even with the use of private schools and extra tuition a student will not get four or more top grades at A level and be ,
As the poster puts it, thick.

This sort of comment is why I believe that some people will just go with their prejudices no matter what evidence is put in front of them by people who have actually have direct experience.

Jeaniewmd thank you. I exactly encapsulates my exasperation at this SNP govt. This is all well known in Scotland but some English people aren't aware of this. Don't believe NS's hype.

If they go they should do a good job of it and go completely. No mucking around, no taking grants or financial aid and don’t forget to set up good border controls so that nice long queues form.

Well I DO Know what the school was like! It has never had less than outstanding or good reports,
She has a nerve criticising it.
She was as has been pointed out educated entirely under Tory rule….
