I am obviously too dim to appreciate the wit of Johnson as he compared the purchase of a new kettle to a nuclear power station, but I am clever enough to know that it takes decades to get one built and commissioned. As I understand it, the last Labour government, in particular the Brown era, gave the go ahead for nuclear power stations as long ago as 2009. The Tories have been in power for 13 years and cannot surely keep blaming inadequacies in the energy sector on a previous administration, even if is a Labour one.

Why was BJ able to make an announcement of the nuckear plant being built costing billions yet any announcement on financial support for the masses and business has had to be held over until the new PM is announced?

My friend bought a kettle to go on gas hob and puts in two cups of water to make two hot drinks. Apparently her electric kettle was far dearer to use - Smart meter said so.

Maybe if he spoke in a statesmanlike way it wouldn’t have happened. Instead he reduces everything to third rate journalism. Because he’s a third rate journalist. And, hopefully, that’s what he’ll go back to doing in the future.

I despise Johnson I never ever thought that I’d be defending him, but this is a great example of things being taken out of context. He’s actually using it as an analogy of money you’d save by having nuclear power stations.

What's happening is frightening, but too many people are sleepwalking, lulled by rhetoric and their own prejudices and habits. I think there will be riots this winter, with even some members of the police force going to food banks. If the Conservatives get their way, however, strikes and demonstrations will be virtually against the law. It's time for some direct action, but my husband (erstwhile Greenpeace activist, etc.) believes the will is not there any more and that people will just mutter and shuffle along. Maybe it's just us baby-boomers who knew how to protest! I hope not! I'm so pleased to read that plenty of people on this site can recognise what's happening.

Well it serves him right for blaming everything on everybody else. I don’t know which programme it was but it was pointed out that previous governments had promised no end of nuclear power stations and had produced one. And current Conservative governments over the past 12 or so years haven’t even produced one.

Truss is going to have a tough time. Two-thirds of MPs didn't vote for her. Will there be a vote of no confidence?
Please, Labour members, get behind Starmer. He may seem dull but so did Attlee. And Starmer doesn't spook the electorate unlike Corbyn.

I boil a kettle of water to use rather than heating up potatoes in cold water on the hob.

I took the advice of a Gran on here a few weeks ago and bought a stove top kettle and it is indeed cheaper to boil it on the hob than use an electric kettle, so mines mothballed at the moment.

He’s jinxed my kettle -just over a year old, so just out of guarantee, and started tripping my electrics this morning

I get the impression we are not hearing anything from our politicians because none of them know what to say far less what to do. They rabbit on about nothing because they don't have a clue what's required.
