The plotting to get shut of Truss of is already underway.
But the good news is that it could lead to a General Election

Allsorts

What a lot of unpleasant posts on here. Judgements made on fake news. Is that how you feel about everyone, only you are right.
Pity you don't approve if Carries dress, should have run it by you first. Did Liz look OK? Can't have a pop at her about her privalidged upbringing, do digging for anything. So what if she has changed parties, it's called maturing, looking at the facts, not being set in your ways and seeing the bigger picture. It reminds me of bullies in the playground. She has not been a day in office and in your eyes she's failed. It went through Parliamentry process every thing was done correctly. .it pays to see both sides and the actual facts before giving judgement. She has taken on a nightmare, never has any PM gone be into office with these problems.
If by any chance Boris returned, which I doubt, it would be because he had sufficient votes to do so, I know how tough for those that don't agree. It's called Democracy.

I assume from your comment about maturing that those of us who have stuck with the same party throughout our lives (whether members or not) are immature?

Carries dress is not a ball gown

I think it is lovely, it is not backless, it’s called fashion, maybe not designed for the average age of GN members, but hey ho live and let live.

I agree. It's a lovely colour and it suits her.

I'm no expert on etiquette but perhaps you don't turn your back to face her when you have an audience with her Majesty? Then she'd never have known!

You're supposed to back out aren't you?

icanhandthemback Wed 07-Sept-22 10:14:50

Who determines that it was an inappropriate dress for the occasion? Who determines that showing a glimpse of your back is not the "done" thing?

I think the dress was lovely and who are we to judge what is appropriate. If it was appropriate in Carrie's eyes, it was appropriate. I don't think anyone should have to dress according to other people's taste and as long as it was decent, why are people so upset? Anybody would think that she was wearing a frontless dress or showing her knickers! I wonder who the Guardian approached to find out that the dress was "the epitome of bad taste" apart from the fashion police. It is all just nastiness about a woman who had the temerity for fall in love with Boris and marry him.

The etiquette regarding what is appropriate when meeting the Queen, especially on official visits, is quite clear.

Yes, the dress is beautiful, yes she carried it very well. Not appropriate is clear. Anyone who has attended an official function with the Queen, and not even as the PM's spouse, will tell you that it is all made very clear in advance.

At first glance, I thought it was showing her knickers.

Fleurpepper Wed 07-Sept-22 10:29:34

yes, very see through

And of course totally irrelevant to the OP!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 07-Sept-22 10:29:55

Many moons ago ladies were not allowed to show their ankles, always wore gloves (even whilst dining), thank heavens we have moved on.

HM would not in all probability have caught a glance of Carries back. Fashion and the clothes that we all wear is personal, I prefer not to judge as I would not like to be judged for my choice of clothing.

With all that is going on in the U.K. , aftermath of Mr.Johnson’s premiership along with the crystal ball gazing regarding Ms.Truss’s Government and policies, I have far more pressing things to ponder.

I’m sure I heard my late Mum’s voice yesterday morning saying “That girl should have a vest on, she’ll catch her death of cold at Balmoral dressed like that !

I am sure if the Palace had thought it was entirely inappropriate, somebody would have had a quiet word and handed her something to cover up or found her a safety pin!

It did look rather celebratory ?

Perhaps she was celebrating!!

And perhaps she changed on the plane or wore a jacket over it to see the Queen.

HM likes bright colours too.

Oh yes, mothers and vests!

I'm sure that it's still not thought to be OK to be showing your knickers in public, though.

Why was Mrs J going to Balmoral, anyway? Is it usual for resigning PMs to be accompanied by their spouses when offering their resignation to the Queen?

Callistemon21 Wed 07-Sept-22 11:33:05

The Prime Minister and spouse are usually invited for a holiday to Balmoral in the summer recess so they have missed out this year.

One going out, another coming in, was there even an invitation to lunch this year?

Barmeyoldbat Wed 07-Sept-22 11:33:32

Most PM s have handed in their resignation by letter but as I said before it’s one last jolly for them, at tax payers expense

Perhaps the Queen thought that two holidays in 6 weeks was quite enough and they didn't need another one grin

Callistemon21 Wed 07-Sept-22 11:39:36

Probably.

Although Liz might be quite worn out with all that time spent campaigning.

Oh, no, she has a lot to sort out, no time for a holiday.

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Sept-22 11:43:15

It’s PMQ’s shortly…

Glorianny Wed 07-Sept-22 11:47:44

Some media sources are saying the dress was a deliberate choice the brand Harmur are renowned for the back view of their designs. It was a message from Carrie. I thought it was lovely and she does have a different style to the usual MPs wife

Oh, you were expecting an invitation for the new PM?

I thought you were talking about the nation's top scrounger couple...

Previous MPs on resigning see the Queen at Buckingham Palace, Windsor on at least one occasion.

This time it was decided due to HM’s mobility problems that the outgoing and incoming PMs should travel to Balmoral.

Both Mr.Johnson and Ms.Truss took their spouses.

Daddima Wed 07-Sept-22 13:04:40

Didn’t anyone else think it odd to see the Queen in her skirt and cardigan combo, rather than her usual silk dress? I know that is probably her Balmoral holiday wear, I just thought it strange.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 07-Sept-22 13:35:09

Yes I know GG§w but I read it somewhere recently that they had a choice, in person or by letter and most did it by letter

Both, MaizieD!

But I expect HM decided, very sensibly, that neither should get an invitation to stay and spoil her break.

I'm looking forward to seeing Truss showing her mettle and wish her well in these difficult chaotic times. I loved Carries dress, Liz dresses more in a leadership style, but what their clothes have to do with their political acumen is beyond me, are we living in 2022 or 1922
