It sounds worrying, doesn’t it?

Together again

I’ve just raised a glass to the Queen, looking at a picture of DH meeting her. RIP (both).

My grandchildren are watching al the tributes on TikTok it’s quite heartening to see so much love from young people, it’s making me cry,

MawtheMerrier Thu 08-Sept-22 21:42:36

It’s hard to think of anything else tonight
The Queen has dominated our country and “our “ world more or less since WWII - for many of us, all our lives .

Jaxjacky Thu 08-Sept-22 21:54:46

My heartfelt condolences maddyone ?
When I was young, I didn’t like the Queen much, we had to wait until after her speech, 3pm Christmas Day, until we could open our tree presents.
Times change of course, she has enduringly been in the background of my life, I’ll miss that, RIP.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 08-Sept-22 22:01:01

God bless her. She has been a constant in my world remembering her as a very young woman, listening to her wedding on the radio in our flat; watching the coronation on a friend’s 9inch black and white tv. Then watching it in colour at the local cinema etc etc. I thought her last Christmas broadcast was the most heart felt one I remembered her giving.

I feel she has been there all my life
I am 78 now and was in primary school when the king died I can still remember that day, and the endless mourning that followed. It was then I became aware of death.I also remember watching the coronation on my grandparent's tiny screened television that my uncle had just bought for them.
The end of an era now

A very nice tribute from Ursula von der Leyen: this is part of the message she sent to Charles.

Her courage and devotion to serving her country was a source of great strength to many and an anchor of stability in the hardest times. The Queen’s steadfast dedication to her country, love of family and of her people informed every day of her long reign. Her empathy and ability to connect with every passing generation, while remaining rooted in the traditions that truly mattered to her, was an example of true leadership.

Her reign defined the history of your nation and our continent. She symbolised the best of the United Kingdom, its people and its values. She meant so much to so many and, on a personal note, has been an inspiration throughout my life.

I've just had a quick nose at the MN threads as the telly got a bit repetitive. Such a contrast with GN.
We are reminiscing and sympathising. They are worrying what to wear tomorrow and whether they should take the jubilee bunting down. The threads about where the Queen will be tonight and the lying in state are fascinating.

I think she has gone sad

You may well have been right - or at least close NotaGran
Liz Truss was informed of the Queen’s death at 4.30 and as PM it would have been very shortly after the event,
It explains the grim faces of the Royals who arrived from Aberdeen, I do wonder if they were there in time .

merlotgran Thu 08-Sept-22 22:56:55

The rainbows over Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle were uncanny but also uplifting.

Even Spielberg couldn't have thought that one up.

Babs758 Thu 08-Sept-22 23:49:34

Such sad news. I was born in the early 1960s and remember as a child thinking how glamorous she was. She always put duty first and was a wonderful example of keeping calm and carrying on.

Feeling sad and upset tonight and, in a way, mourning the current state of the UK too.

Delorus Thu 08-Sept-22 23:52:19

Such a marvellous woman completing her duties until the very end.
Her body so frail but the smile still strong.
May she now be at peace reunited with the love of her life.
God bless and thank you

Whether you are a monarchist or not she has been a wonderful ruler. So committed and so sensible during many turbulent times. R.I.P.

nanna8 Fri 09-Sept-22 00:11:16

Just read back through this thread and condolences to Maddyone, a very sad time.

NoddingGanGan Fri 09-Sept-22 00:12:50

Wow! I insulted nobody. On the contrary, I expressed admiration for the late queen for being the remarkable woman she was. I expressed an opinion that a monarchy has no place in the 21st century and plenty of others have said they have no time for the monarchy. I said that Charles wasn't the person his mother was. That is not an insult, she was such an incomparable statesman, one can be an admirable personage and still not be fit to be mentioned in the same breath. I expressed sympathy for him in the same way as for any grieving relative.
Now, if I expressed any of this in any way that left any reader feeling personally insulted, or with their personal belief system insulted or that I had insulted the personal character of any individual member of the Windsor family I apologise. That was not my intention. But some of you need to look at your judgemental and vituperative responses.
I too, extend my heartfelt condolences to Maddyone.

If you don’t understand what was inappropriate to say on this particular thread, then nothing anyone can say will affect you.
Actually, by repeating and elaborating on your previous comments, you obviously don’t understand what is appropriate. ??

nanna8 Fri 09-Sept-22 00:30:39

Yes- I agree with Mollygo. Inappropriate at this time.

FannyCornforth Fri 09-Sept-22 00:59:14

Maddy I’m so very sorry for your loss thanks
My mom died just before Diana did. It was extremely surreal, so I can sympathise with much of what you might go through.
Thinking of you

Such is the impact the Queen had on world events that the whole world is now in mourning.

An amazing woman who delivered on her promise to serve. her whole life.

I remember seeing her in Australia when I was 5 or 6, we, with 1000's of others, stood on the side of the road while the her motorcade drove by.

RIP Elizabeth 11

BlueBalou Fri 09-Sept-22 04:19:40

So sad, but what an inspiration she was!
I will miss seeing that wonderful smile that lit up her face.
Reunited with her beloved Philip, may she rest in peace.

vegansrock Fri 09-Sept-22 06:28:15

An historic moment no doubt and very sad for many. I don’t buy the “whole world is in mourning” notion, but that’s just an aside. I find much of the media coverage and speculation rather repetitive and unnecessary time filling. I am rather shocked that the Last night of the Proms has been cancelled, as I thought they could make that into a fitting tribute.
