It sounds worrying, doesn’t it?

I don’t think Pit meant anything nasty. Another post echoed some of it.

I’m a strong Republican but??

... me, too WWM. ?

She will be the end of an era.

crazyH Thu 08-Sept-22 15:34:12

Why are the newsreaders wearing black - she’s still alive

kircubbin2000 Thu 08-Sept-22 15:32:39

The flag lowering person has just gone into no 10 by the back door.

NotTooOld Thu 08-Sept-22 15:31:38

Remember her lovely and caring speech to us all during Covid?

I, too, hope she is comfortable and I also hope her descendants can make peace between themselves before she goes. I bet that's what she's wishing for too.

If it is the Queens last day then it is a very sad day. She always seems so balanced and in charge of the errant members of her family.

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Sept-22 15:26:46

It’s so difficult for the reporters, and indeed anyone on air.
What do you say while this happens?
We won’t see her like again. She is emblematic of a certain age and mindset.
There will be Elizabeth I, Victoria, and Elizabeth II.
Historical and cultural icons all.
True majesty

I am watching closely here in the US. The Queen, the people in the UK and the Commonweath, are all in my prayers.

The media has to wait for an official announcement

Iam64 Thu 08-Sept-22 15:22:28

Yes, good post calendar girl

MawtheMerrier Thu 08-Sept-22 15:18:59

And of course, Edward VII’s demise was accelerated to “catch the evening editions of the newspapers” !
That has to be regicide or treason at least!

Seriously though, Charles would now be king and there are various protocols regarding the proclamation of his accession.

^I suspect she died a few hours ago, and they will release the news when they feel it is appropriate^

I understand where you are coming from, but perhaps it is different when the actual monarch dies?

Charles will become King immediately his mother dies, and I would have thought it had to be announced then?

As a personal observation, I think that if the very last image we have of our great Queen, it is so appropriate, shaking the hand of her new, 15th! Prime Minister on Tuesday.

Looking tiny, frail, elderly, but with her radiant smile, her walking stick and her trusty handbag.

God bless our gracious Queen!

?

Yes. Her wonderful smile is an appropriate last image.

Dutiful to the end.

I think she has gone sad

That would mean they're lying to us.
Surely they (the media) wouldn't do that?shock

Don’t know if you are right or not, but remember Meghan’s baby? It was announced she was “in labour” some hours after Archie was born!

henetha Thu 08-Sept-22 15:16:11

I remember being so upset when King George VI died, and will be even more upset when our Queen dies.
It's the end of an era and she has been a hugely successful monarch and loved and respected all round the world.
My hope is that she will rally and have a few more years with us, but it sounds unlikely.

sodapop Thu 08-Sept-22 15:15:55

Such a sad time. The Queen has personified duty and service in her long reign.

Your last two sentences said it all for me Calendargirl

Am I reading too much into the fact that they have brought Huw Edwards in for the lunchtime news and that he is wearing a black tie? Also other commentators seem to be wearing black. I fear we are facing sad times ahead.

I haven't seen his tie. Just views of the gates at Balmoral.
Was watching ITV earlier and Robert Peston was wearing an awful tie. He looked like he had got dressed in the dark.

This is no false alarm is it. If she does die today we will have ten days of mourning followed by the state funeral.

The fact that the BBC hasn’t broken away from their coverage makes me feel there will soon be an announcement.

I'm not a royalist but I feel sad for the Queen and her family and appreciate that this is a sad time for many.

Grammaretto Thu 08-Sept-22 15:00:08

She became Queen when I was 4 and I saw her when she visited New Zealand. We were each given a silver coin (a crown) and a union jack to wave.
I saw her and the duke in their open topped car. I still think of her like that. She was very pretty.
She's a year younger than my DMiL who is still bright and chatty.
Are her children really rushing to her bedside? I thought they always liked to go the Scotland at the end of the midge season?
