Charles would have had input into his speech but it is unrealistic to believe that, some 24 hours after his mother’s death, having travelled back to London, done a walkabout and doubtless having had some official matters to attend to, he would have found time to sit down and write the speech before facing the cameras. Nevertheless it was a good speech which was delivered well.

He's had a very long to think about it and update it as necessary.

I listened to King Charles and saw him arrive and go to the people who were waiting - things are going to be alright.

On Newscast Nicholas Soames,who has known Charles for 62 years, said that he is a very good writer, so I would think that he wrote the majority of his speech himself.

It was very moving He seemed close to tears.

I agree with lemsip that ‘building their lives overseas’ comes across as just that.

That’s where they are now living and making their lives.

Camilla has two rescue dogs from Battersea- I think, both Jack Russells.
There was a lovely picture some time ago of her JRT “helping” to unveil a plaque at Battersea with the curtain firmly between his teeth!

Yes he would have removed or added a line here or there, made suggestions eg I want Harry acknowledged etc
But even a short speech takes some time to craft, and requires good writing skills which not all royals would have. Also as you say Charles had a full on day, is grieving and probably hadn't slept much the night before.

Just checked, it was a statement presumably made with the assistance and knowledge of his press officer.
Speechwriter would be a separate function.

I've always thought it must be dreadful to be born into a Royal family and in this intrusive media world that we now live in, it must be so much worse. Every word spoken, every photo taken and every action analysed and opinions made and expressed. The stress of just living on a day to day business must be horrendous! I am so glad to be just an ordinary person. I can't help thinking that our new king is going to have a difficult job. Unlike the late Queen, he inherits the role with a life and a history behind him at an age when most of us have put our feet up (to some degree) and watch the world go by. If I have a grumpy day and feel a bit snappy I can go out into the garden or walk the dog. If I feel a bit unwell, I can stay in bed or lie on the sofa and watch TV. In fact, I can do pretty much anything I want. Poor Charles at nearly 74 (same age as me) will spend the rest of his life keeping his mouth shut and having to meet and greet the good and the great! No amount of money or servants or homes would be enough compensation for me, at least.

There would be speechwriter employed at tge Palace. All their speeches would be drafted for them.

Why would the speech have been written for him ?

The speech would have been written for Prince Charles who would have approved it. I expect a bit of thought went into how to bring Harry into the speech in as uncontroversial a way as possible. Personally I think "I would like to express my love for Harry as he builds a new life overseas with his beloved Meghan" would have sounded more sincere, but either way I don't think he was making any kind of hidden statement.

I thought it was a wonderful tribute beautifully spoken. It was heartfelt, full of love and deeply moving.

It’s William I feel for. With his dad not being a young man William might find himself taking on the role of King before he he ready and with a young family to care for. I really like William, he reminds me of Diana both in looks and manner. We will see. In the meantime I wish Charles well.

Lemsip, that’s your interpretation ‘no way back’. It isn’t mine, I saw it as loving confirmation that at this stage in life, his son has no desire to return to the UK.
The Queen had the gift of seeing the best in people.
