I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

Let’s hope Harry and Megan heard what the King said

That he loves them? I’m sure they did.

Will they show any respect or keep their mouths shut?

Oh just give it a rest, will you! Honestly.

Can't help yourselves, can you?

Iam64 Fri 09-Sept-22 18:28:35

Honestly! King Charles spoke lovingly of Harry and Megan. Some people can’t follow his loving lead.

merlotgran Fri 09-Sept-22 18:32:19

Maybe there are signs of rapprochement?

If so, there’s a long way to go but every journey begins with a single step.

Nothing Christian about those remarks.

How sad.

I thought Charles speech set a good tone of inclusivity and profound sadness at the death of the Queen.

Blondiescot Fri 09-Sept-22 18:40:10

I see the 'if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all' message didn't last very long, did it?

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 18:42:44

What is unchristian to say one hopes a son heard his father say
he loves his son ?

ShazzaKanazza Fri 09-Sept-22 18:43:30

I thought he did a marvellous job in view of how he’s grieving.

For the poster who would prefer a republic presumably with a president who do you like best? Donald Trump or Vladimir Putin?

Oh Lord always the same thing trotted out. Those of course being the only options,

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 18:45:41

It was a speech from the heart

Harris27 Fri 09-Sept-22 18:49:06

I like him too. He seems more in touch and will bring I feel a more compassionate monarchy. I think he relies on camilla and they will make a good team. God forgives so should we. He has made mistakes let him make amends now.

I am not a royalist but had huge respect for Queen Elizabeth.

I believe we are seeing the beginning of the end of the monarchy now.

Rather than being intelligent as biglouis stated Charles is far from clever (Since when has a B in history and a C in French indicated intelligence? Is it even University entrance qualifications?). He has done nothing to make me feel he will be an asset to this country. As for his previous mistress, now wife, they both behaved disgracefully and the fact that previous monarchs were in the habit of behaving promiscuously is no excuse. The more important the person the more important it is that they set an example.

The recent scandals regarding accepting carrier bags full of cash and cash for honours seem to be being ignored by so many on Gransnet.

Charles is not fit to be King, his now wife is not fit to be Queen Consort. The monarchy needs to come to an end.

(Since when has a B in history and a C in French indicated intelligence? Is it even University entrance qualifications?).

Really? Since when has judging people merely on two exam results indicated any understanding of the ability to well.

What a nasty little post on a day like today.

Well…. I am here to tell you I got B B E. at A level . Was accepted at Bristol university after spending a year out in Paris. Graduated. So I guess I’m not intelligent Esspee?

Hetty58 Fri 09-Sept-22 18:50:31

It will take me a while to get used to it. After 'King Charles' I automatically think (and imagine) - spaniel!

Iam64 Fri 09-Sept-22 18:53:24

What a thoroughly nasty post Esspee. Snobbish, elitist, unkind and unnecessary on a day like today.
From observing our new King meeting the public and his first speech to the nation I’m pleased we have someone like him as our non constitutional head of state

Calendargirl Fri 09-Sept-22 18:54:39

He hasn’t hung about announcing that William will be the Prince of Wales, which is good news.

Catherine will be an admirable Princess of Wales.

Think Diana would be very pleased.

Alie2Oxon Fri 09-Sept-22 18:54:54

Learn to think 'corgi; ?

It was the comment about keeping their mouths shut.

Parsley3 Fri 09-Sept-22 18:58:03

I like how he speaks so fondly of his darling wife.

I like how he speaks so fondly of his darling wife.

So do I, his respect and live for her shines through. I have always liked Camilla.

sodapop Fri 09-Sept-22 19:10:35

I thought the King spoke very movingly today. He has gone up in my estimation, a man who clearly loves his family and country.
I agree Calendargirl Catherine will be an excellent Princess of Wales.
The final quote of the speech brought a lump to my throat - May flights of angels take thee to thy rest.

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 19:12:34

Lucca I didn’t say anything about keeping their mouths shut,
I posted a genuine hope, I am not responsible for what others
attach to my post yet I am classed unchristian.

Some look for mud

Fleurpepper Fri 09-Sept-22 19:16:33

it was Granfmattie.

Wonderful and moving speech by Charles <3

Georgesgran Fri 09-Sept-22 19:18:32

I too thought it a lovely speech. I couldn’t have spoken like that so soon after my DM died.

merlotgran Fri 09-Sept-22 19:20:28

I hope those who have been saying for a long time that the crown should pass to William are now having second thoughts.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Sept-22 19:23:02

Agreed.
