King Charles III

I’m starting a thread so we can add our thoughts and hopes for the future. The King will address the nation at midday.

He and Camilla have my support although I know not everyone feels that way.

God Save the King.

I hope those who have been saying for a long time that the crown should pass to William are now having second thoughts.

I so agree..

Apart from anything else, William needs to have time with his growing family, if possible, before he assumes kingship.

I am sure the Queen would have far rather ascended the throne 20 years later than she did.

Lucca I didn’t say anything about keeping their mouths shut,
I posted a genuine hope, I am not responsible for what others
attach to my post yet I am classed unchristian.

Some look for mud

Ach well, in for a penny...

grandMattie made some comment about M&H keeping their mouths shut.

Lucca made the point that a comment like that at the present time is not very Christian.

Nobody mentioned you Anniebach or made a comment on what you had posted. But unfathomably, you have assumed the criticism is aimed at you. Nobody called you unChristian. Nobody aimed any criticism at you whatsoever. It's not all about you.

Some look for mud, right enough.

Agree with Merlot and Germanshepmum. We need King Charles, the early signs are excellent. William will be a good Prince if Wakes and he and his family have time to mature

fairfraise Fri 09-Sept-22 19:49:46

I know its too early to think about this but I wonder if Prince William will have the same sort of investiture as his father did. I remember it well!

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Sept-22 19:53:42

I wondered about that.

Calendargirl Fri 09-Sept-22 19:54:56

Oh, I think the investiture will be much more low key.

Can’t imagine William at 40+ wants the same sort of display that Charles had to go through, with a ping-pong ball as part of his coronet.

?

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 19:55:20

I doubt it , I too remember it well, attempts to blow up reservoirs

fairfraise Fri 09-Sept-22 19:59:39

I remember all that. I went to Cardiff Castle representing the school, where Prince Charles walked round and met young people from each county, but he only spoke to the ones at the front of the group! Like others I think it would be a simpler ceremony.

Lexisgranny Fri 09-Sept-22 20:02:13

I notice that every reference to the former Duchess of Cornwall that I have heard is as the Queen Consort, with nobody using her name. As the late Queen’s mother was also Queen Consort, I wonder how long it was before she was referred to as Queen Elizabeth? This is not an attempt to be controversial, I am just interested.

Allsorts Fri 09-Sept-22 20:03:25

Sure Charles will do his best to be a good King . His mother is an impossible person to follow but he will make his own mark. William is mature enough for his increased duties, he and Kate are a strong, much loved couple. However, I am really sad she has so much sorrow the last few years, caused by her own close family, born though with grace.

I too thought it a lovely speech. I couldn’t have spoken like that so soon after my DM died.

It was lovely. I'd never accomplish a speech during mourning.

Her Majesty’s husband died, a huge loss. She’s had a great deal of joy from younger members of her family.
Many families experience sorrows linked to difficulties faced by family members. I believe it’s likely the Queen shared her son Charles’s love and acceptance of Harry and Megan. As would most grandparents and parents

Callistemon21 Fri 09-Sept-22 20:18:14

She may have been Queen, Her Majesty, but she was also a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Which grandmother could fail to love the imp that was Harry when he was a child? That love would not have changed over the years. They grow and change but our love doesn't.

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 20:21:13

Dennis Nilsen’s mother was asked why she traveled every month to visit him in prison, she replied ‘he’s my son’

Hmm not a fan of either.. it’s too soon for celebrating a King and believe we need to modernise the Monarchy .. We can’t afford them all..

I think you would find any alternative system would cost at least the same or probably more. That has to be the weakest of arguments. A bit like Brexit would save us so much money and make us rich. Nothing is for nothing in this world.

As I said before, the arguments I have seen about a Constitutional Monarchy are simply hate dressed up. Very unpleasant.

Iam64 Fri 09-Sept-22 20:33:18

Well said Callistemon
Comparing the feelings of Her Majesty towards her grandson Harry and the mother of a mass murderer towards her son seems unpleasant , to say the least

I agree with DaisyAnne. Any other system would cost at least the same. Much of what you think is funded by the taxpayer is, in fact, funded by the family themselves for their private lives.

As for celebrating a new Monarch - that is traditional.

The King is dead. God Save the Queen
The Queen is dead. God Save the King.

It is how it is.

Callistemon21 Fri 09-Sept-22 20:37:05

Oh - and Charles has begun modernising the Monarchy.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 09-Sept-22 20:38:35

I think Annie was trying to explain that the love of a mother or grandmother transcends everything.

I hope those who have been saying for a long time that the crown should pass to William are now having second thoughts.

I just wish everyone would stop thinking both politics and Royalty are the equivalent to Love Island or Big Brother.

Iam64 Fri 09-Sept-22 20:57:57

I hope you’re right germanshepherds mum and I so, I’m sorry for misunderstanding

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 21:00:42

Thank you GSM. I was thinking of the criticism of the
Queen on this forum when she walked into Church with
Andrew. My thoughts are not transfixed on Harry.

I noticed it in an uncontroversial way too, Lexisgranny.

The commentators are already dropping "the third" from King Charles, so I imagine Camilla will soon be Queen Camilla for her Sunday name and just plain Camilla when it's plebs like us talking.

Anniebach Fri 09-Sept-22 21:03:06

Yes you were mistaken Iam

Iam64 Fri 09-Sept-22 21:06:30

Ok Annie, I’m apologising again for assuming you were criticising Harry
