Anyone like to guess how long this government will last?

I think it could be spring, but they may drag it out to the summer.

varian Sat 24-Sept-22 18:17:31

Oh yes. The very high earners work much harder than anyone else but still need financial incentives to keep working.

The worst off need to have their benefits reduced to incentivise them.

Does anyone really believe that makes any kind of sense?

Delila Sat 24-Sept-22 18:37:50

Yes, I heard it too, Riverwalk, in response to concerns raised that only the well-off will benefit from the budget announcements.

I could hardly believe my ears either!

Ilovecheese Sat 24-Sept-22 18:49:27

Riverwalk

Did I imagine it or have I just heard Chris Phelps, chief secretary to the treasury, who seems to be the one facing the media, say in relation to the tax cuts

"We're not into the politics of envy... we don't want to penalise those who work hard"

WTF!

I do hate that phrase about envy which is spouted whenever favouring the better off is questioned - haven't heard it in a while.

Lots of people work very hard and don't earn anywhere near £155,000. Why is a high salary equated with working hard?

I suppose people like him have to make themselves believe it, otherwise how could they live with themselves.

Sue Perkins ?

Everything is now for sale. They're no longer trying to hide it. They've taken a wrecking ball to the UK. Write to your MP -about the rivers, fracking, bankers, energy bills -all of it. Flood their inboxes. We have to stop this govt before it's too late.

MaizieD Sat 24-Sept-22 19:22:38

A pity she has unpacked.

Well, Charleygirl5, I've just seen a rumour on twitter that she found the Downing Street flat completely empty of furniture, so I hope she took some along with her grin

(For the pedants among us, I've no idea if it was No. 10, which is the usual PM's residence, or No.11 where the Johnson's lived, because it's bigger...)

JaneJudge Sat 24-Sept-22 19:27:58

everything must go

I sorry - who is Charlie Brooker?

I do know who Sue Perkins is.

MayBee70 Sat 24-Sept-22 20:16:53

He used to do a satire programme on the BBC I think.

I was deeply saddened by Bravermans careless discarding of those police working AT LAST

not only to real inclusiveness but, to a real understanding of us/those caught up or affected by the police who go into domestic/public violence against women situations or complex multi-cultural ones or the patrol nights where 60% of work is with the those desperate or/with M Health conditions.

We're only just dealing for heavens sake with the nest of sexism and racism in the Charing Cross Station that included a police murderer.

We should NOT make it an either/or is my point!

We need to adequately deal with ALL policing matters in our troubled society.

MaizieD Sat 24-Sept-22 23:57:59

I doubt that Braverman has any grasp of the realities of the police force. It's just another contribution to the far right war on woke. Red meat for the tory faithful.

The rich will get richer, the poor poorer ... how true is that ! The ones who always will always have to work ... the idle ones won't, I am sure we all know a few of those ... yes genuine ones who can't work ... its the scivers then think they should get everything !

Beautful Sun 25-Sept-22 00:38:47

Apologies think put on wrong thread

vegansrock Sun 25-Sept-22 03:06:41

The collapse in the £ will cost filling the car an extra £6. Thank you budget.

Plus the RSpCA are calling out the government’s “attack on nature”.

Yes I read this yesterday. I'm wondering how low they can get. I'm thinking all the way to the bottom.

Reading this morning that Mark Fulbrook, Trusses Chief of Staff is paid by his own lobbying company. So we have a senior government adviser who is not paid by the government. Why would that be?

Isn't he the person who is being investigated by the FBI?

Just when we thought Johnson had set a rock bottom bar for sleaze and dirt, along come Truss...

Daisymae Sun 25-Sept-22 10:28:42

The first cabinet spat is on the cards according to the Times. In pursuit of growth it now seems that the government wishes to welcome more migrants. This is not pleasing some members although I doubt that this is the hill they will choose to die on but it's a start. confused

Zoejory Sun 25-Sept-22 10:30:12

I think they'll last the two years. After that it will be goodbye to the Conservatives, for a while.

Oh, my goodness. Just when you think it can't get any worse ...

One corrupt conservative government has been replaced by another corrupt nominally "conservative" government fired up by the far right ideology of making the rich richer and to hell with everyone else.

Exactly!

If only we were grown up enough to be trusted with a like button!

I think that they'll manage to win the next election unfortunately. Think back to the last election and try to ignore the Corbyn factor. The LP put forward a decent, costed program which the right wing press rubbished. A large proportion of the country accepted the papers nonsense and voted Tory. No matter how far into the mire they fall, the Tories always come up smelling of roses.
