I’d like to see Ed Balls return to the Labour benches, we need more politicians who are competent, genuinely care about people and will bring a bit more humour to the deadly serious business of politics. Which former (but still living) politicians do you think would improve British politics?

Competent MPs (in all parties) who have had a career other than politics that took them far away from the Westminster world, before they became MPs.

Yes

Anyone who truly represents and fights for their constituency residents - not just those who voted for them - and who doesnt use politics as a way to feather their own nest.

I’ve just thought of somebody else - Betty Boothroyd, she would impose some discipline where it’s sorely needed.

I enjoy listening to the podcast… The Rest is Politics, with Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell.

They’re doing a live show soon. I’d love to go to it!

John Smith, Robin Cook, from Labour. Both sadly died but I think they would have made good Labour leaders. Also David Milliband. They elected the wrong brother IMO.

The only LibDem who had any credibility was Charles Kennedy. He didn't agree with the ConLibDem alliance.

The Tories? I would struggle to name one. Michael Portillo is good on the TV but that doesn't make him good PM material.

Alan Johnson. Such a missed opportunity for PM.
Oh and in general people being able to cope with the fact that other people hold different opinions to them.

He is still alive but might not want to return and sit on the back benches!
