Seems Liz Truss means business - no sleaze on her watch.

From the Guardian:

“We have suspended the whip pending investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour earlier this week. We take all such allegations extremely seriously. The prime minister has been clear that the highest standards in public life must be upheld.

Burns was an extremely close ally of Boris Johnson, as one of his inner circle who helped him through the various scandals that beset his premiership.

He was formerly a Northern Ireland minister before Liz Truss made him trade minister in September.

Burns previously had to resign as a trade minister in 2020 after being found to have used his position to try to intimidate a member of the public.”

Good.

According to the Times Burns is one of the people Johnson has put forward for a knighthood ( apologies if this has been mentioned already, my ipad keeps crashing).

At what point is this much heralded 'resignation honours' list going to be revealed? Is it before or after the Privileges Committee find him guilty of deliberately lying to Parliament about the NO 10 parties during lockdown?

MayBee70 Sat 08-Oct-22 20:39:26

I wonder if there’s a link between this case against the Mail and Dacre’s potential knighthood?

If Truss is really anti sleaze why does she not tell DVid Warburton to resign?

Just a reminder of how spot on the Guardian can be at times, the crystal balls were working in July.

I'm getting a bit mystified, here.

Has Johnson's list been made public?

What is 'this case against the Mail'?

Elton John and a few others are suing the Mail group saying they bugged peoples homes. But I don’t know if it’s pre Dacre. So much is happening it’s difficult to keep up!

Thanks for clearing up one mystery, MayBee ?

So if those MP’s go to the Lords there will be bye elections which the Conservatives might lose therefore Truss might delay it till after an election. And she has to ask the King ( still can’t get used to saying that). I’m getting very confused about everything.

Going back to the "sleeze-free" Truss government...
I see that Liz Truss is paying her chief of staff via a lobbying firm (I think it may have been his own lobbying firm).

This has come to light straight after they repealed the rules to stop people paying themselves through companies. Another Truss tax perk for those who don't need it. And in her own office too.

MayBee70 Mon 10-Oct-22 17:43:34

The MP is adamant that he’s done nothing wrong. I know they all say that but I wonder if Truss’s enemies in her own party might be trying to make her look foolish?

varian Mon 10-Oct-22 17:51:58

It doesn't take much to make her look foolish.

David Warburton's continued employment as an MP and his continued support from the Somerton and Frome Conservative association makes her look very foolish.

Surely she can't be afraid of losing another by-election to the Liberal Democrats?

Yet more Tory sleaze from one of Truss's new ministers

She's inherited a right mess to clear up, hasn't she?
(just read up on David Warburton from June and wondering, how many more skeletons from BJ days when it was OK to lie, party, watch porn on mobiles, etc etc.)

Well yes Varian that would be the opposition there?

vegansrock Mon 10-Oct-22 21:18:46

Apparently Burns was the MP who caught Johnson and Carrie in a compromising position in the office in the early days of their affair. So the Knighthood was promised in exchange for keeping schtum.

Grantanow Sat 15-Oct-22 12:26:32

Her affair is not what matters. It's that she is not up to the job. And sacking a Minister for some alleged activity without an investigation smacks of expediency rather than justice.

The constituency currently not represented by David Warburton was represented by David Heath, an excellent LibDem MP for eighteen years until 2015.

Somerset has always been a two party contest between the Liberal Democrats and the Tories. At the recent elections for councillors in the newly formed unitary council of Somerset the Liberal Democrats won a decisive majority .

One of the newly elected Councillors is Sarah Dyke, who has an impressive record as a District Councillor for South Somerset and has been adopted as the LibDem candidate for Somerton and Frome.

I think the link with Tufton Street is alarming. The link with the climate change deniers and do on.
Appointments she has made might not qualify sleeze but are certainly dubious. Maybe this would be of interest as it explains some of the links...
