Are young people turning gay?

According to a survey by Stonewall more than a quarter of young people identify as LGBTQ which is higher than previous generations.

So what is happening here? Are they actually changing, just think they're changing, or is it because they feel able to identify themselves?

I searched our academies website and there is no mention of stonewall or mermaids. Nothing on the main academy website either...

I'm still not sure what this has to do with whether I should have an opinion on trans rights?

One thing we did cover in training was the equality act which I obviously do agree with and I believe it should be followed correctly and I agree sometimes that isn't happening.

Another thing we teach in school is our British Values of Individual Liberty, Tolerance and Respect.

I've also told you that we do not teach about trans and neither does my children's secondary school.

I've also mentioned that my responsibility to children having difficulty with gender would be listening, offering comfort and reporting concerns.

But these are things I have said on these threads all along.

Where is the problem exactly?

Nowhere are the words "nobody has" neither have I called anyone wrong.

Clearly this comment is also a continuation of previous discussion

I'll go back and find where it started

Note this phrase Mermaids is proud to offer gender-diversity training to schools, health professionals, public bodies and private companies. Our training is tailored to each organisation’s specific needs so please visit our training page to find out more and get in touch.

It was initially from the horse's mouth I got my information.
Doodledog and I agree on some issues, I'm sure we disagree on others. We are not a hive mind nor one a clone of the other smile

The key word there being "offer" Rosie51

Here is where this conversation started

I've talked honestly of my experience and training which is the same for other schools in our academy.

Haven't spoken for about other academies or schools

Strangely what I have said has been no comfort

There is a world of difference between offering training and dominating all training and thinking. There are a huge number of organisations offering gender training to schools, it's not dominated by either of the two organisations.

I'm so baffled right now

Mermaids was used in a training event I attended which was delivered to early years staff. People are going to be back pedalling so hard you will see the smoke.

It’s quite funny in a wry sort of way how organisations and individuals, especially celebrities, who were loud in their praise of Mermaids just a few short weeks ago, are suddenly quite puzzled by suggestions that they were supporting them or even really knew anything about them?

Back pedalling doesn’t even cover it.

The problem with the LGB Alliance that I see after reading their polices, is they reject trans people and they reject them regardless of their sexuality.

Now everyone here accepts and makes space for trans people (within limits that protect women's rights) right?

So I'm not sure what anyone else thinks of the LGB alliance

Surely they could have just been a support organisation for LGB without having any any anti trans statements?

There are organisations for different aspects of LGBTQ anyway

Who is back pedalling on here?
One training event which used Mermaids does not mean they dominate the area. There is zero evidence that either they or Stonewall have ever done so.

Just a comment about all the people and organisations beating a hasty retreat.

VioletSky Wed 12-Oct-22 19:33:30

I've just read that 50, yes 50 LGBT groups signed a letter condemning the LGB Alliance as a hate group.

Are all 50 of those groups offensive to everyone here?

Lathyrus Wed 12-Oct-22 19:37:11

“I read”

That’s a bit vague isn’t it?

Unless we are all members of all 50 groups (highly unlikely, I'd have thought), how, exactly are we supposed to answer that?

I read that there’s a satellite that’s been up in the sky since the Middle Ages?

Be got a vision of the the same 50 or so people going “Now you two bel g to this group well set up and you two over there you’re another group and you three over there…….

Look we’ve got 50 groups! Everybody sign this letter.

A letter to who?

It’s just too silly for words.?

Oh that should have had this quote.

I’m getting carried away by my raspberries and cream….

Lathyrus Wed 12-Oct-22 19:49:41

I read (a headline this one)

That men can become allergic to having orgasms

It should t have made me laugh - but it did?

Lathyrus Wed 12-Oct-22 19:50:16

Oh this is fun

I read…….

go on, have a go

Galaxy Wed 12-Oct-22 19:59:13

Thank God for Mermaids challenging the LGB alliance, it's what led to the current exposure of the issues there.

Took me a minute to find it

That's enough Internet for today

Lathyrus Wed 12-Oct-22 20:09:16

April 2021? Hardly current.

Pink News. Hardly objective.

You’ll have to do better than that.

The Medieval satellite? Conspiracy Theory News.

Just about as valid
