This is the date that the Palace has announced for the coronation of King Charles III

Blossoming Tue 11-Oct-22 23:52:29

NanKate. Sorry blush

Blossoming Tue 11-Oct-22 23:51:28

Me either Nakate I wouldn’t want to frighten anyone grin

I’ll be disappointed if the May Day bank holiday is moved, we’ve booked a large house for a long family weekend to belatedly celebrate Mr C’s 80th birthday. The process to agree the date was tortuous, arranging the coronation probably requires less diplomatic ability! Oh well, nothing we can do about it other than hope.

Hopefully the young ones in our street will organise another party. The jubilee party was fab. Hopefully the weather will be kind.

tanith Tue 11-Oct-22 22:03:50

It’s also Harry’s son Archie’s 4th birthday.

SueDonim Tue 11-Oct-22 21:49:40

Sounds a bit dangerous, Blossoming what with thorny roses and stinging nettles! ?

NanKate Tue 11-Oct-22 21:40:05

Well I’m not getting my kit off for anything ?

Blossoming Tue 11-Oct-22 21:37:40

Saturday 6th May 2023 is also World Naked Gardening Day.

We will have to re-convene our village jubilee committee, which will become the coronation committee to plan our celebrations. Maybe a bring and share in the village hall or a posh afternoon tea. It would be interesting to find out how our village celebrated in 1953. At least we can record TV for the day while we have our own celebrations.

Yes, here it is; Ceremony at Westminster Abbey will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby
Service on Saturday May 6 next year will be eight months after accession of Charles III and the Queen's death
Palace says it will be 'rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry' but also 'reflect monarch's role today'
Charles III will be anointed with holy oil, receive the orb, coronation ring and sceptre and be crowned king

NanKate Tue 11-Oct-22 21:27:08

Grandma70s I’m with you on that, with a nice trifle to follow but none of those 100s and 1000s we used to have on the top which would pull my fillings out now. ?

Joseanne Tue 11-Oct-22 21:26:51

vegansrock

but you’ll get the extra day on the Monday when you can sleep off the hangovers.

???
I don't understand that. Won't we get the previous Monday 1st May, not 8th?

Hellogirl1 Tue 11-Oct-22 21:21:40

I hope he gets better weather than his mother did

I would expect the Mayday holiday to be moved to Friday 5th
so no extra bank holiday,

Next year’s calendars and diaries are already in the shops! grin

Excellent - I will put it in my diary and order in some fizz and sarnies from M and S. ? we know how to party ?

I’m hoping M&S will do a good Coronation Chicken ready meal.

Katie59 Tue 11-Oct-22 19:54:46

ginny

Why would the bank holiday need to be moved at all ?

Because a significant number of people will want to celebrate the Coronation incorporating an extra day will make it more of an occasion, after all it hasn’t happened for 70yrs.

There are of course those who don’t want participate, they are quite free to ignore it and do other things.

It’ll be Tony Blair’s 70th birthday!
(I only know this because he shares his birthday with my husband and is a year younger).

Apparently it’s up to the government to decide if it’s to be a bank holiday or not.

The only thing it clashes with is Archie’s 4th birthday.
