I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

Again, it's down to our perception of the whole situation.
It's high time Charles and Camilla were left in peace, I think, regardless of what happened years ago.

I admire their bravery for withstanding the leak of "that" conversation.

I think I'd have gone into hiding! smile

He had to carry out duties when it was released, must have been a nightmare facing everyone, so embarrassing

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 19:34:51

I can just imagine having to step outside to face people.
Cringeworthy, but well, they obviously have that "spark" between them.

Yes and no Grany.
The yes bit is because I think one group want someone as HoS that others might not want, which is exactly how it is now.
Not convinced by your argument about why it wouldn’t be someone wealthy. Are there any HoS from the working classes?
Why would we have the changing of the guard if it’s part of tradition to do with the RF? Seems you are cherry picking the bits you like.

Thanks Volver dear.
So that’s one- President, born 1935. Good on him and those countries who don’t see age and poor beginnings as a barrier. Come on Grany. There must be more.

Truman's father was a farmer.

Zelensky's father was/is a university professor, his mother an engineer.

The President of Portugal's father was a doctor, I think.

Lots of casualties in the mess created by Charles, Camilla and Diana.

Correction
The mess created by the Queen Mother and Ruth, Lady Fermoy, Diana’s grandmother

Joining The Firm? Camilla's ex-husband Andrew Parker-Bowles carries out a royal engagement on behalf of the Queen Consort as he represents her at a funeral...

Was chairman of the Labour Party,

You’re surely not suggesting he was politically affiliated? Grany says they would not be so.

Anniebach Thu 20-Oct-22 09:37:02

He stood for president as a Labour Party candidate

He did not.

Think again.

A politician of any persuasion could run for president but once in office as a president there are laws written in a constitution he has to abide by and uphold.

Michael D Higgins

Higgins rose to national prominence in 2011 when he won an unexpected victory in the presidential election as the Labour Party candidate, but the Limerick-born President had a long and storied political career before that famous win.

volver Thu 20-Oct-22 11:13:05

Michael D Higgins had been a labour politician. Who had to resign his political allegiances when he became president.

He did not, as you wrongly asserted stand for president as a Labour Party candidate.

Anniebach Thu 20-Oct-22 11:18:47

He was a Labour Party candidate and resigned his chairmanship of the Labour Party when he was elected president

nanou Thu 20-Oct-22 11:22:17

I don't mind, crowned or not crowned, we have worse things to deal with atm, hopefully they will keep the cost to a minimum!

He was not the Labour Party candidate. He was not elected to represent the Labour Party. He was not elected on a Labour manifesto. He is no longer associated with the Labour party.

I don't know what else to say.
