I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

'Camilla’s husband had numerous affairs so she was treated disgracefully'..
............

Well of course he did, his wife having it off with Charles wasn't he!

It seems everyone was at it with everyone else. grin.
It’s surprising they found the time given how busy they were all supposed to be.

Love your vision of what a UK head of state would do.
1. So how are we going to elect one?
2. Who will pay for the election?
3. Will the post be properly funded so that it’s not just the better off who stand a chance of the post?
4. Who will pay for that or how do you propose we are going to fund it?
5. Is the HoS going to be non-political?
6. How would you ensure that?
7. Can you explain the pageantry you propose we should have?
8. Pageantry about what and what pageantry do other countries do? Examples please.
9. Arranged by whom?
10. Paid for by whom?
That’ll do to be going in with. I’ve number the questions to make it easier.
Look forward to your numbered responses.

Love your vision of what a UK head of state would do.

1. So how are we going to elect one?
When polling consistently shows support for a republic and MPs agree to a referendum then the voters decide.

2. Who will pay for the election?
Well a good question, who pays for political parties when they have an election

3. Will the post be properly funded so that it’s not just the better off who stand a chance of the post?
Anyone can apply who wishes to be chosen as our Head of State The Head of State will get paid from the treasury like the RF once in post.

4. Who will pay for that or how do you propose we are going to fund it?
To try answer your question electing a Head of State would be political thing so funding comes from donors like elections

5. Is the HoS going to be non-political?
Yes in a democracy our Head of State role is above politics abiding by laws written in our new constitution

6. How would you ensure that?
The Head of State has to abide by laws written down in our constitution and is responsible for upholding thoses laws.

7. Can you explain the pageantry you propose we should have?
You could have Republic Day. Changing the guards.

8. Pageantry about what and what pageantry do other countries do? Examples please.
Photo added Changing Guard Athens Greece

9. Arranged by whom?
The Head of State and his office

10. Paid for by whom?
Treasury

Cost of Irelands president is £4 million which is a parlimentary president. U.K. would be similar to this model.
Monarchy costs £345 million and is no benefit

That’ll do to be going in with. I’ve number the questions to make it easier.
Look forward to your numbered responses.

Thank you I hope I've answered your questions satisfactorily

No nobody should stay in a loveless or failed relationship but I believe honesty is the best policy ie separate and end things not creep around cheating on the other. I didn't approve of Diana having affairs either but her treatment was appalling, she was set up to fail and Charles should never have married her!

Jaberwok Wed 19-Oct-22 14:38:37

No you're right, he shouldn't, but he was under enormous pressure to marry (think the abdication) and the late Queen Mother, and Diana's grandmother Lady Fermoy were extremely keen on this match. Unfortunately they certainly were not keen on a Camilla match. I'm certain that both parties tried to make a go of it, but lets face it, they didn't have one thing in common in any way whatsoever . Right from the start it was a struggle for both of them. Again easy enough to sseparate quietly if you are not in the public eye,but when you are as these two were, it becomes a nightmare. Thank goodness there wasn't social media at this time, the tabloids were bad enough, and the BBC loved it. It was a bad time for two very unhappy people, and they both fell in love with somebody else, Diana, several times, Charles just the once.

Diana knew what she was doing, she knew she had to keep herself tidy

volver Wed 19-Oct-22 16:22:15

That expression makes me feel a little bit nauseous.

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 16:32:17

Much of what she said makes me feel nauseous

Galaxy Wed 19-Oct-22 16:40:10

You dont say Annie grin

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 16:40:35

I feel the same about Charles being a pair of knickers. smile

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 16:41:11

King Thong?

Parsley3 Wed 19-Oct-22 17:01:44

Anniebach

Diana knew what she was doing, she knew she had to keep herself tidy

Was she really a conniving minx, flaunting her virginity at Charles? Was it the same situation with Catherine? Did she keep herself tidy to bag William? This poor family. Allow them a bit of privacy and I say this as someone who would prefer to elect my Head of State.

hollysteers Wed 19-Oct-22 17:51:27

MissAdventure

King Thong?

Haha, brilliant ? (“With a Thong in my Heart” sings Charles.

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 17:52:14

grin

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 17:58:27

She spoke of keeping herself tidy in her book not before the marriage.

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 18:00:02

I see nothing wrong with saying that.
She could have been much more graphic, I presume?

Sarah74 Wed 19-Oct-22 18:07:38

Anniebach

Diana knew what she was doing, she knew she had to keep herself tidy

She was only 19

Sarah74 Wed 19-Oct-22 18:08:00

Anniebach

Much of what she said makes me feel nauseous

What sort of thing?

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 18:14:05

Barry Manakee was the greatest love I had

Followed by Hewitt, I loved him I adored him .

Not from the press but from her tapes

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 18:33:02

I'm glad she knew what she considered to be real love.
Sad to think someone would have died without experiencing it.

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 18:35:22

I doubt his wife thought that

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 18:38:22

Lots of casualties in the mess created by Charles, Camilla and Diana.

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 18:48:47

For me the villain was Johnnie Spencer , you see a girl fooled by the man she married, I see a girl who would have done anything to please her father, her sister failed so she was next in line. I don’t think she loved Charles , she hated country life,
she was a city girl

MissAdventure Wed 19-Oct-22 18:51:10

Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle?
Who knows?

I doubt we ever will.

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-22 18:59:39

I doubt we will but I think the attacks on Charles and adoration of Diana so unfair
