I was prepared to ignore the coronation, but for Charles to insist that his now wife be crowned is beyond the pale in my opinion.
I realise there are a huge number of royalists on Gransnet but do any of you agree with me that she should not be crowned?

I never really took to Camilla although anyone can see she’s been good for Charles but I really don’t get her how she can be crowned she isn’t The Queen she’s a consort like Prince Phillip he wasn’t crowned.

Elizabeth, the Queen mother, was always known as 'Queen Elizabeth'. Camilla, Queen Consort, will - and should - be known as Queen Camilla. In the 20th Century, Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary were also Queens Consort. As far as I know, the last consort to be crowned King, was William of Orange whose wife, Queen Mary, was the heir to the throne.

Why the cerfuffle about being Consort , ? And why was the Queens mother not known as Consort , she wasn’t a reigning monarch either ?

But should a posh woman have a fancy hat?

A crown is a bit different to a fancy hat.

Silly statement.

What is the “Diana malarkey”?

Shinamae

According to a royal commentator on Jeremy Vine this morning ,she doesn’t understand why the word consort is being used and that Camilla will be the “Queen”

Camilla to my knowledge will be Queen Consort she can’t be Queen she is not a reigning monarch

Growstuff, one simply can’t request others to forget someone to make a point more valid.

Come on, move on.

I think Camilla has proved her worth,, and is a great comfort and support to King Charles. I've grown to like and respect her a lot. And I am happy that she is to be crowned.

nadateturbe Wed 12-Oct-22 09:26:18

My first reaction is to laugh. It's all so ridiculous.

M0nica Wed 12-Oct-22 09:17:47

You do not choose the monarch, nor do you choose their consort. I a monarch is crowned their legal spouse should be crowned alongside them. Their contribution to the exercise of monarchy is almost as onerous as being monarch.

The personalities of the people filling these roles is irrelevant.

You do not need tobe a monarchist to know how the system works. It has worked that way for centuries.

I like our Queen Consort Camilla.

She stays quietly in the background supporting the King and carrying out many many visits to the charities she has been patron of for years, some before she married the present King. She doesn’t court publicity.

I have absolutely no problem with her being crowned as such.

Grantanow Wed 12-Oct-22 09:16:24

Waste of time this discussion when the UK is in such a mess caused by Truss and Kwarteng.

Zoejory Wed 12-Oct-22 09:16:06

Nobody will boo. She's the King's wife. She'll be crowned. Quite normal

lemsip Wed 12-Oct-22 09:13:30

I don't like the fact she is being crowned queen consort,
I think there will be some boos in the street by many who are not happy!

lixy Wed 12-Oct-22 09:12:28

As Humbertbear said, it was planned by the late Queen and so is nothing new. Why the outcry now?
Other things to think about I'm afraid.

25Avalon Wed 12-Oct-22 09:12:24

I think it’s what her late majesty wanted. I never like Camilla but she has been a great stay to Charles and will give him stability. I think the late Queen saw that.

Urmstongran Wed 12-Oct-22 09:10:10

For me.
Either way ...

Elegran Wed 12-Oct-22 09:08:46

Every legal wife of a king at his coronation has been crowned with him. Philip wasn't, but I think that was a break from tradition. Historically a man marrying a woman who was Queen in her own right became the King (and tended to take over from his wife) and it made a movingly dramatic moment when he was the first of the peers to step forward and pay homage.

Camilla is the legal wife of King Charles. They were married after he became a widow.

Does anyone really believe that all previous royal couples were both snow-white virgins when they walked down the aisle together?

JaneJudge Wed 12-Oct-22 09:02:02

Diana died 25 years ago and she and Charles had divorced. I can't see how anyone has forgotten.

I don't care either way re Camilla having a crown btw

I just wonder what William and Harry really think. I’m sure they see that Camilla makes their father happy, but at the same time it must be difficult.

Why would it be difficult?

Lots of adults, myself included have really good relationships with our step parents or former step parents. People manage to have successful functional relationships with people even in spite of death and trauma. I can't see how William and Harry can't be the same?

Hé is shameless, no surprise this is what he is insisting.

Why is he shameless?

Quite simply my view of Charles I am not asking anyone to agree with me.

Lets forget all the Diana malarkey! Unbelievable!

Why is it unbelievable?

growstuff Wed 12-Oct-22 08:58:20

I don't care that much, but I do find the attitudes towards Camilla quite disturbing.
