Parsley3 Fri 14-Oct-22 13:57:03

Jeremy Hunt has just been appointed as Chancellor.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 13:57:05

So what does Truss stand for now?

gillgran Fri 14-Oct-22 13:57:12

Oh dear, what a mess. Hopefully we can get the country on an even keel, sooner rather than later.

Four Chancellors in four months. Well really.

Love the understatement!! ?

You couldn't make it up - Truss has sacked the Chancellor for implementing a mini-budget that she agreed to!

Another mini-Budget imminent?

Blossoming Fri 14-Oct-22 14:05:57

We are doomed.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Oct-22 14:08:12

How about Hunt being moved up to PM once Truss goes?

Her letter to Kwarteng seems to ask exactly that question, doesn't it.

tanith Fri 14-Oct-22 14:41:58

So he’s sacked and she thinks it’s ok for her to continue even though ‘they were on the same page’, you couldn’t make it up?

BlueBelle Fri 14-Oct-22 14:44:30

According to all the experts she will be gone by next week herself Sit back with your packet of crisps and your can of cider and watch and wait

I reckon Truss will be gone very soon, even before Christmas

Truss ‘rock bottom and still drilling’

Grantanow Fri 14-Oct-22 18:28:40

Hunt faces an uphill struggle with the economy and probably with Truss's barmy ideas. The Tories must get rid of her and appoint a grown up (which lets out Johnson). Of course, with their record of success in choosing a leader they might select Braverman in which case God help us all (not to mention asylum seekers).

And I owe Johnson an apology. He's not the worst Prime Minister in my lifetime as events have recently proved. But it's fairyland to think he might return. We must see the back of Truss though - she has messed up big with the financial markets, driven up mortgage costs and risked the pension funds not to mention making us a laughing stock internationally. Tories: get rid of her now.

I would have difficulty deciding who is "worse" as they are both so bad, but in different ways.

I think there is more to come out about Johnson's oversight of government. Truss ... well I suppose it takes a very special person to wreck a countries economy and reputation quite so quickly. Noticeably, we still haven't got a costed budget. What happens once we have, I wonder.

I also wonder if it is possible to stop decline, now we have left the EU. The Labour Party, if they get power (I'm not taking anything for granted at this point) will have to be careful what they promise as we still, presumably, will have stones to overturn in the various departments.

Can I have a little boast here? A few months back there was a thread asking who the worse Prime Minister ever was. Surprisingly, quite a few people said Tony Blair (I don't remember him being disliked so much at the time).

Anyway, I posted something along the lines of 'Liz Truss is almost certainly going to be'...... But even I didn't realise how right I'd be!!

I am glad you found the Tony Blair thing surprising CatsCatsCats. I suppose all forums have loud voices from what would be a countrywide minority. I found Tony Blair interesting then and still do.

These two are certainly the worst in my lifetime, followed fairly closely by M Thatcher.

Not sure about Thatcher being 3rd on your list. I would put James Callaghan in 3rd place following his 'Winter of Discontent' and therefore giving Thatcher a shoe in at the GE of 1979.

She is third on MY list prestbury (lovely village). Or am I now being corrected on my personal choicessmile

If we had the choice now, you are right, Liz Truss would definitely be the worst!
