Appalling that someone should harass JR-M's child, but I have to say that I find it very irritating and odd that Mr Mogg often brings one of his boys along to events and meetings.

Why does he do that? Is he setting him up to be part of some Mogg political dynasty? It's like he's being groomed to be a future Tory MP or PM.

That photo was taken 3 years ago, we only have to blink and we'll have a new PM, Ree-Mogg Jnr.

Well admittedly I don't know the difference between symptoms of a brain tumour and dementia, but I do know the woman and you don't. Maybe you take things too literally, because you seem to jump on anyone who posts the smallest thing you can find fault with. Looking for faults all the time, what condition is that?

I agree about JR M, like with everything else he seems to be in oblivious denial or prefers to downplay the cost of public office to his own child. It will come back to bite him.
Didn't some politician on the election trail get his little daughter to eat a beef burger for the cameras once?

Speaking as someone who has a person with dementia in the family, I find it utterly distasteful to speculate on whether a person's gaffs are due to dementia or not. Much less to use it as some kind of insult and suggest that they are not up to the job.

Come back when you know what you are talking about.

I imagine we all have known, by now, people with different degrees of dementia and different types, all of which will show in varied ways.

The use of 'dementia' as an insult - which this was obviously meant to be, reminds me of the past when the word 'spastic' was used in the same way. Those using 'dementia' should ask themselves what they would think of someone using the other word in this way.

Jacob's own father, William, did the same. It is a sort of dynastic thing. A kind of grooming of the eldest youngster for his future role. Probably in politics.

There's a video of a rather precocious Jacob as a 12 year old laying out clearly his plans and ambitions for the future.

In the video you will notice that young Jacob is wearing a camel-hair coat when he's in the bank. Also part of the 'uniform'.
He, clearly, didn't rebel! But times have changed, who knows if the current Rees-Mogg youngster will. Maybe he'll have a 'gap' break and get out into the world and escape from his narrow confines for a year or two.

There are some people do see their children as extensions of themselves. Perhaps that is a key to the conservative psyche? In fact, those who still believe in the heredity system must do, mustn't they?

I believe they think they are, or he does anyway.

He reminds me of the author, the late Evelyn Waugh (he of Brideshead Revisited fame), who l-o-n-g-e-d to be part of the aristos, and affected all kinds of mannerisms, vocabulary and dress, in much the same way (including on occasions, the top hat). He also had a handful of children whom - when talking to his wife about them, were always referred to as "your" children. He 'collected' fashionable and aristocratic friends and developed a taste for "country house" living. And he also had a real dislike for the post-war welfare state.

JR-M appears to have a similar disposition. I wonder if he still wants to be Prime Minister when he's 70 as he did at age 12!
