Our local police have had to close this bridge this morning due to protesters climbing up high, endangering themselves and others along with prevent thousands of folks getting to work.

We all know the planet has problems, but disruptive behaviour alienating those who they wish to bring in board to their cause is not the way to go.

And I see the old who have no concern for the environment and want to start fracking and stop all this net zero "nonsense".

Your point?

I went to University in Dundee, then worked there for 25 years. When the bridge closed I went via Perth. It closes quite often because of "jumpers". I don't think they should be horse whipped, though.

This is a random comment Volver as who has said they should be horsewhipped?
So Dundee was a good guess on my part then, but going via Perth because idiots had closed the bridge at Dundee, may be alright if inconvenient to some, but a matter of life or death for others.

I think we all understand the environmental message, but it could easily have been promoted in a way not designed to hamper the emergency services at least.A march will do this, or a large group protesting in an open public space.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 15:34:27

Are you calling the "jumpers" idiots?

How unpleasant.

Where in Scotland do you see them Volver ?

Prentice Mon 17-Oct-22 15:36:35

Perhaps I should not engage with your remarks Volver as I see you are simply being contentious for the sake of it.

Rarely in Scotland.

Mainly on Gransnet.

What these guys have done today is a real nuisance and at huge cost to the convenience of many and the life events and health of others. It also looks very dangerous for them personally - I wouldn't be brave enough to do it on so many levels. The must be very committed to the cause.

Something has to be done about our reliance on oil (for various reasons) and this government have no clear and convincing policies on how to achieve this.

All people want and expect is a compelling policy and 100% commitment. If our leaders could provide this then perhaps people would stop doing such irritating, attention seeking things.

Volver A jumper is a disturbed individual who is displaying a need for support and understanding. They will not be doing it with the intent of disrupting as many lives and businesses as possible. They don't consider the impact on anyone else because they are too distressed. That you equate an individual at rock bottom thinking suicide is the answer with a couple of protestors able to climb high up the support wires of a bridge and determined to inflict misery on others is so wrong.

I'm not the one who is wrong.

Sometimes they fall out of the pub and fall into the river and need to be pulled out by the Lifeboatmen.

Trying to shame me won't work.

silverlining48 Mon 17-Oct-22 16:17:09

I live very close to the Dartford /Essex bridge/ tunnel and not a day goes by when the whole town isn't in gridlock because of volume of traffic and regular accidents both on the bridge and roads nearby. The air quality is very poor due to the traffic stopping and starting and I just want to say please avoid if you can. Especially if you are a protestor. Thankyou.

You've proved that time and time again ??

Never wrong and never to be shamed.

Mollygo Mon 17-Oct-22 16:18:10

Yep! You’ve got it Prentice.
I too have noticed your remarks Volver dear, are often simply being contentious for the sake of it?

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 16:18:26

That's pretty accurate Chestnut.

Chestnut Mon 17-Oct-22 16:30:48

And apparently unable to understand sarcasm but quite able to use it.

grannypiper Mon 17-Oct-22 16:32:49

Leave them up there, they will soon get fed up and cold

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Oct-22 16:43:42

Just checked the local weather for overnight, dry, no wind and a low of 7’.

I would t like to be standing underneath these guys, there are no toilet facilities 85 meters in the air strapped to a wire support …

What a shame it’s quite warm today with little wind blowing ?

What a nasty comment.

You’ll get no apology from me. I mean every word I say.
I have a foolproof idea but that’s between me and my friends who feel as I do.

So now 'jumpers' are the equivalent of drunks who fall into a river? If you say so. I suppose they do have in common that neither are deliberately inflicting misery on as many people as possible.

Just because you're incapable of feeling shame, doesn't mean you haven't been shamed.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 17:00:25

Vigilantism, is it?

Ohhh, you are big and scary.

And possibly illegal?

Introduce suicide.

Accuse me of introducing suicide.

Blame me for being shameless.

It's like being in Parliament.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Oct-22 17:06:49

volver you introduced jumpers into this thread with your post of 15.25 today.

volver Mon 17-Oct-22 17:07:53

Yes I did.

Did I say they were people thinking of suicide?

I am sure that you know full well that the term jumpers is often used for those folks who throw themselves off of bridges/high buildings in order to kill themselves.

Thanks for telling me what I know GG13. Most helpful.

"Often". Not "Always".
