Can Liz Truss front PMQs on Wednesday?

Just that, really. If she does, I may hide behind the sofa. I think it will be unbearable.

Urmstongran Mon 17-Oct-22 12:39:21

Isn’t it Wednesday? Not that another 24 hours will help her much. I can well imagine the howls of derision she will have to face. I admit to feeling a little sorry for her. But the Tories are in so many split camps. If her backers manage to reassure her adequately she may brazen it out. It could go either way in the next few days though.

It is UG. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse. I'm going to garden and get away from it all.

Urgent Question this afternoon before the Chancellor's statement. "To ask the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on the replacement of the Chancellor of the Exchequer during the current economic situation."

Who will answer?

Kim19 Mon 17-Oct-22 13:23:05

I'm out to lunch otherwise I would have watched (or tried to). I'm not a fan but she must be one very lonely and sad person at the moment. Oh, I know many people will say she set herself up for it but the more I learn of the awful powers behind the throne the more I become aware of how much people manipulation is going on. Always like this? I don't know but it certainly seems hideous to me now.

Casdon Mon 17-Oct-22 13:31:16

If she doesn’t front PMQ I think she will be gone within the next two weeks, because it will be a sure sign that she can’t be trusted.

Grantanow Mon 17-Oct-22 13:31:54

She could always swan off to an international meeting and send Therese Coffee instead, ha ha.

Never mind PMQs on Wednesday, any prime minister worth his/her salt would be sitting beside the new chancellor this afternoon - after all he is announcing the mother of all U-turns on tax and spending.

I wonder if Truss will show up.

The Conservatives are ruthless at times like this. Much as I dislike her for the damage she’s done to this country I do fear for what this is doing to her.

Penny Mourdant is taking Labours Urgent Question on the economy this afternoon,

Why not the PM or her deputy?

It's beyond farce that Truss is not turning up at Parliament today, of all days.

Maybe she's working on her resignation speech.

IMO, her husband should tell her enough is enough and to throw in the towel.

grin MawThe Merrier I did think for a moment that you were emulating the awful Miriam M.
It will indeed be a difficult time for Liz Truss if she remains in place as PM and has to front PMQ’s on Wednesday. What she can say, I have no idea.

Hunt has said there is no guarantee that he will stick to the triple lock on pensions.

It's like a wretched hokey cokey. First you get it then you don't and then you get it again ... ... and then they just don't know.

If he doesn’t retain the triple lock the 19% of people who say they will vote Tory at the next election will dwindle to almost none. Even Urmstongran will be disillusioned.

The best moment from today’s PMQs

I can confirm that the Prime Minister is not hiding under a desk

CatsCatsCats Mon 17-Oct-22 19:36:55

I don't feel sorry for her.

It was Kwasi Kwarteng I felt sorry for - getting the boot for just doing what LT wanted. If she'd done the decent thing, she'd have stepped down at the same time as him.

What is it about these PMs, that they try to drag it out when they must see their days are numbered? Boris did exactly the same.

I’ve got a midday hairdressing appointment on Wednesday. I’m rather pleased that I’ll miss it. I don’t think I could watch. It will be cringeworthy.

Doodledog Mon 17-Oct-22 20:20:24

I don't feel sorry for any of them. I feel sorry for the people who thought they were getting help with bills and have planned accordingly. I feel sorry for the people who are on benefits and state pensions, and thought that they would get an increase that might not now materialise. I feel sorry for people who are having to use food banks and go onto pre-paid meters, even after working a full week.

I could continue my list, but it would labour the point, and the bottom line is that I'm not wasting my sympathy on Truss or Kwarteng - it was their own hubris that led to their humiliation.

Wyllow3 Mon 17-Oct-22 20:27:16

I agree.

She has given an interview. It has just been on the BBC. I do wish they would stop saying, "we have the lowest unemployment level" as if they have done something clever.

Brexit means we simply do not have enough people to fill the jobs. Add to that those who are sick and therefore don't count as unemployed during the worst time I can remember for the NHS. Then add to those who are burnt out and have just left the workplace, managing to live on whatever they had put aside for the future. They don't count as unemployed either. However, both some of the currently sick and the burnout could work if the circumstances were different.

Why do I keep getting a mental picture of a pack of hyenas surrounding a wounded antelope ?

Grantanow Mon 17-Oct-22 23:58:31

There is no good reason to feel sorry for her. Her reckless behaviours has endangered the UK economy, forcing up mortgage rates and will undoubtedly lead to cuts in the support for energy bills, cuts to the triple lock on the old age pension, a fall in the pound and a host of other spending cuts hinted at by Hunt today. The sooner the hyenas bring her down the better.

Katie59 Mon 17-Oct-22 23:58:47

However thick her skin it’s a humiliation of the highest order, Hara Kiri has been committed for less, let’s hope that she falls on her sword metaphorically and resigns.

Her future as a Tory leader is zero, stand aside and start afresh and get back to as near normal as possible, the 1922 committee must have told her that in no uncertain terms.

vegansrock Tue 18-Oct-22 06:36:02

In the interview she blinked about 200 times a minute and used the word “deliver” about 400 times. A very weak performance.
