After that interview I've stopped feeling sorry for her.

Tories need to bite the bullet and go to the country. They won't win the next GE whatever happens.

I woke up this morning hoping to find that she had gone.... but no.

She says that she has gone " too far, too fast".
No acknowledgement of ....and completely in the wrong direction. Weasel words won't work!

She’s awful but, realistically, what else is she going to say ? She has to justify herself and it must be becoming harder and harder.

I do think that her rapid blinking indicates that the poor soul is in a very anxious state, and quite frankly delusional if she thinks that she is the best person to lead our beleaguered country.

Resignation is honestly her only option I think - at least she would go with some semblance of dignity.

Despite loathing the woman and despising everything she stands for, I hate to see anyone being publicly humiliated. I think the only reason she hasn't resigned is because she's been told not to. ATM, her resignation would probably lead to the complete disintegration of the Conservative party by internal fights or the demise of the party at the ballot box. Neither option is attractive to the Tories so she will be made to hang on until they think they can find someone who will keep the party together.

She’s being kept in place as a puppet PM until the divided factions can agree on a leader……..this may take some time ?

I have a memory of a few years ago. It was after Michael Heseltine engineered Mrs Thatcher’s removal. He seemed to be the obvious successor. But oh no. One of the teachers at my children’s Primary School was an absolutely true blue Tory councillor. She walked round the mums at going home time, telling us John Major was the great white hope! It was all very surreal.

I do not agree with her policies, but I do not like what appears to be an orchestrated form of collective bullying, from the media and within the Conservative Party itself.

I doubt if I will vote again, totally disillusioned by politics.

I think there is a lot of truth in this, but they can't force her to stay on (can they?).

She is not being protected by her own party. We know that the tories are ruthless when people don't deliver - they always have been. Their whole ethos is about standing on your own feet, and not looking to others to prop you up or help if you need it.

Others are circling the PM job (eg Penny Mordaunt) and will try to get her out, whilst others are looking further ahead to the GE. Whatever they do now won't save them, so they are looking at damage limitation. Letting her take the flak and be the symbol of their failure takes the attention from the rest of them.

I just wish they'd bring the curtain down on the whole sorry show, and let the UK try to rebuild its tattered reputation.

She decided to ignore warnings from everyone that understands economics. She caused chaos on the financial markets and lost us £65 billion pounds and then more. She caused extreme distress for potential and existing home owners. The knock on effects for everyone in this country will be felt for years to come. Yet all that is not mentioned as she has “fixed it” by changing the Chancellor. She is beyond unbelievable as she clings onto power which she no longer has. Every day she stays in power she weakens her Party. I have no sympathy for the Tories and no sympathy for her. It is outrageous that she hasn’t been sacked. It is outrageous that she hasn’t resigned. She doesn’t need to stay in place and receive anymore ridicule and hostile retorts. She can go. It’s up to her. So am I sorry for her. No I am sorry for this country.

Late last night I was feeling sorry for Truss, May - and even Thatcher. What was I thinking? It must have been the medication I take at bedtime.

This woman, who thinks British workers are "the worst idlers in the world", insists we need "more graft", that we "lack the skill and application" of foreign rivals... those 'rivals' she at first as a Remainer welcomed, and now as a Brexiter, presumably, wants to send packing - and replace them with those whose countries can ill-afford to lose them. This woman who, during discussions about help with energy costs for the most vulnerable, insisted there would be no more "handouts", a word deliberately chosen to denigrate the impoverished whose impoverishment has come about largely at the hands of the party she represents.
She stares stony-faced, rigidly refusing to acknowledge that her own 'lack of skill and application' has landed the country in an unholy economic mess, burbles on about "delivering" and insists she's going to lead the country into the next GE.

Let the hyenas maul her, she's one of the pack, too. If she had an ounce (or 28.3495 grams) of integrity she would resign. She's almost brought the country to its knees, sacked the man she chose to carry out her policies for doing what he was told to do - by her.

Meanwhile all the working "idlers" who lack "skill and application" will muddle along trying to cope with the frightening cost of their energy bills, their increased mortgage repayments, the ever-increasing cost of living and wait to hear how their services will be cut, the help they thought they were going to get evaporates. Probably interspersed with the odd Tory grandee giving advice to the poor on how to manage their poverty.

And forget the triple-lock. That goes without saying.

Sick to death of the lot of them. Enough really is enough.

We can't, it's up to the MPs and despite the vile mess they have made of things, the Conservatives still have a substantial majority. Do turkeys vote for Christmas?

His conclusion - There are no good options left is spot on. But how long will the Tories continue to damage the country just so they can hang on to the illusion of power?

Some of you may remember the film "Last Year in Marienbad" from the 60s. At the time it was believed that the director had cut the film into pieces, thrown those into the air and put the pieces back together in an haphazard fashion.

I believe that this it what the Tories have done - those in the thrall of the mysterious extreme right. They have messed with our economy during the past 6 years in the full knowledge that whatever happens, they will be OK. They do not care what happens to the vast majority of the population - we are irrelevant.

An aside - did you know that PM's after retire or lose an election receive a salary of £100k for the rest of their lives. I've no idea how long they have to be in the role in order to receive it. If she only lasts for 3 months will she get it?

I also agree with foxie48. LT has made a complete pig's ear of her premiership so far but you can bet your bottom dollar she has been told not to resign even though you can guarantee she would like to. Who wouldn't in her situation? They are waiting for a new leader to 'emerge' and then LT will be gone. She's only holding the fort (if you can call it that). Poor woman though. Who would be in her shoes? She's gone from winning the leadership election to being the party's pariah in a few short days.
