The LP is setting out it’s pitch.

I think we’ve dodged a bullet if the self serving nature of her engineered resignation is anything to go by. God help us all if she throws her hat into the ring for the leadership.

This situation is a gift to Starmer but in my opinion he hasn't made the most of it. No point in cracking jokes, he needs to be setting out his pitch.

She has resigned because she breached an important protocol and because she finds Liz Truss insufficiently right wing. The former I think is an excuse that under normal circumstances she would have tried to hush up; the latter is her real reason and beggars belief.

Yes, it’s because they disagreed about immigration

^She has resigned because she breached an important protocol^

Since when has breaking the Ministerial Code been a resigning matter for this lot?

Remember government carried out by WhatsApp during the covid crisis?

Exactly - this is her front for leaving for two reasons: she does not see the government as sufficiently right wing; and she needs to line herself up for standing for PM at some point.

In no way do I imagine she really resigned over breaking the ministerial code. She just found it a useful peg to hang her resignation on.

They are sly individuals engaged in political manoeuvring with one aim only - power.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at her meetings with Charlie boy each week!

Now of course we have the snake oil salesman who didn’t even use his own name in order to sell it.

Excellent news from the Home Office! Maybe they let her keep the red box as a momento. Another one down, keep them coming.

There are reports that the Deputy Whip gas also resigned (unconfirmed)

Labour MPs tweeting of shouting, rows and more between Conservatives going through to vote.

Confirmed on Ch4 News just now…

What next?

A very powerful interview of a long serving Tory Mp on what he thinks of his own party after the fisticuffs tonight. I'm a labour voter but I really feel for this man.

It is pitiful. I hate that my those of my GC who are old enough to know what is going on are witnessing this. I feel quite despairing.

I also do not think that Starmer is handling it well - he is joining in the point-scoring when he should just be quietly stating his concern at the collapse of proper government and being clear about Labour's plans.

Do they really think we are stupid and do not remember???

I think it's more to do with the fact that they don't think about us at all but are confident of their ability to lie, twist, deflect and spin their way out of anything, however blatant or appalling.

For example, here's Alexander Stafford, the Tory MP alleged to have been "manhandled" by senior members of the government tonight. "Lots of rumours flying around tonight. This vote was never about fracking but about Labour trying to destabilise the country, and take control of Parliament."

We're supposed to ignore all reports of bullying, manhandling, shouting and blame Labour.

Deedaa Wed 19-Oct-22 21:12:22

Oh how we laughed at Theresa May with her Strong and Stable government and how strong and stable it seems now compared with these muppets.
