Talk about extraordinary moments in history.....

Ali23 Thu 20-Oct-22 15:54:45

Im utterly relieved that she’s going and feel that the only answer is a general election.

On a personal level her feelings of humiliation must be off the scale and I wish that on no-one at all… friend or foe. Just wish she hadn’t made this series of terrible decisions in the first place, and that the country learns from it.
We need constitutional change.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 20-Oct-22 16:27:07

At least she hasn't had time to buy any wallpaper...

CoolCoco Thu 20-Oct-22 16:37:53

The lettuce lasted longer

Jaberwok Thu 20-Oct-22 16:40:21

Well that's something I suppose! I think the Johnson's took their rather garrish wildly expensive wall paper with them. Of course I feel sorry for people affected by all this, especially as we are one of them! But I still felt for her humiliation.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Oct-22 16:45:50

If I believed in conspiracy theories I might think that the last three months have been orchestrated by Conservative puppet masters

Liz Truss and Kwazi Kwarteng have been well and truly played, all part of the plan to make Mr.Johnson the saviour of the party. After all he did win an eighty seat majority.

??????????

The Conservatives can’t work as one together so how on earth could they work as part of a coalition government. Anyway why would Keir Starmer want to when a load our victory is looming?

Whoever won a General Election we would once again have to witness grown adults in hugely responsible positions shouting criticisms and insults at each other across the House of Commons, like kids in a school playground! Is that really how we want our political representatives to conduct themselves? Given the current crisises (sorry if that's not a word) I don't think any member of the current parties has sufficient knowledge or experience to get us out of this mess. I wouldn't have confidence in any of them. A Cabinet of GNETers could do better!

As for the suggestions that Boris might return. The phrase "Better the devil you know than the one you don't" comes to mind.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 20-Oct-22 17:07:06

This talk of Boris Johnson returning is making me feel really sick. If that is the best they can offer then a GE is necessary. Rishi Sunak is experienced and above all is an economist. He would calm the market and that is what we need.

tidyskatemum Thu 20-Oct-22 17:18:35

Surely even the current Conservative Party would not be bonkers enough to bring back Johnson? I'll be out manning the barricades if he returns.

Fleurpepper Thu 20-Oct-22 17:21:50

I'll join you!

They need to install a revolving door at number 10!

That’s so funny Pitcity

He's got my vote. ?

MaizieD Thu 20-Oct-22 17:26:22

A little reminder for those who would like to see Johnson back.

Should also point out that the Privileges Committee are investigation him for misleading parliament over partygate, apparently the evidence against him is stacking up, and he is likely to be suspended from parliament for long enough for his constituents to enable a recall petition, which would lead to him having to fight by-election to retain it.

How embarrassing to lose yet another PM in strange circumstances.

OTH I hope Truss hadn't stripped the wallpaper?

Blossoming

I don’t feel sorry for her. I feel sorry for all the people having to suffer the damage she’s inflicted on the economy.

This......

If you disregard the two weeks of mourning after the death of the Queen, in just 4 short weeks she and Kwarteng have wreaked catastrophic damage to our economy, especially mortgages.

Then she showed her true colours, throwing Kwarteng under the bus in an attempt to save her skin.

Despicable.

DerbyshireLass Thu 20-Oct-22 17:39:06

Apparently the £ has rallied.

Fleur20 Thu 20-Oct-22 17:43:20

Whats a few weeks of humiliation compared to £115,000 per year for life??
Please can I be PM... just for a day or two??... not asking too much am I?
Please please please!!!

I agree

It has felt like a conspiracy to me ever since Truss somehow made it into the last two leadership contenders.
How did that happen? I can honestly say that I have never met a single person who thought that she had leadership qualities, in fact no one who had a single good thing to say about her. Something about her ultimate election as leader felt very contrived!

Zoejory Thu 20-Oct-22 18:17:17

Didn't Truss make it to the last two because the MPs thought she'd lost against Sunak?

The whole thing is an absolute shambles.

GE should be held ASAP. But I won't hold my breath.

varian Thu 20-Oct-22 18:40:52

The Conservative party have destroyed this country in the last seven years.

In 2015 it was only Farage and the "fruitcakes" (as Cameron called them) in the Tory party that wanted to take the UK out of the EU. But as the fruitcakes became more threatening, backed by the vested interests of the tax dodging billionaire owners of the right wing press, leaving the EU suddenly became an issue.

Before the fraudulent referendum of 2016 the only foreign politicians who backed leave were the French Fascist Marine le Pen, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

The billionaire tax dodging owners of the right wing media were bedfellows with Vladimir Putin, said to be the richest man in the world.

Putin found the fruitcakes of the ERG "useful idiots" and although he has not dropped bombs on us, he has still been very effective at destroying the international reputation of the UK and our economy.

MaggsMcG Thu 20-Oct-22 18:51:43

Surely, we need a general election next year now. February if possible. It's getting ridiculous we're the laughingstock of the world at the moment. It's almost as farcical as Trump. I'm glad Jermey Hunt has ruled himself out. God alone knows who'll we'll get next. They can't really vote for Rishi Sunak surely; they didn't want him last time.

I agree with Oldandproud and GrannyGravy, but I think the party knew that the Little Englanders would never vote for a brown person, so put Truss up against Sunak, knowing she’d be a disaster ( but I think they underestimated just how disastrous), and then the ‘ You know, at least Boris…..etc,etc’, could start.

Happygirl79 Fri 21-Oct-22 11:42:50

I'm so pleased she has been forced out. I don't believe for one moment that she would have resigned voluntarily for the good of the country.
She has trashed our economy and stands there without any sign of shame or sorrow

GrammarGrandma Sat 22-Oct-22 11:17:37

I am not sorry for her. She brought it all on herself. But the Tory party at large were bonkers to vote for her; she was hopelessly overparted in that role. Johnson has flown back from his holiday to stand again. I just pray he doesn't get 100 MPs to back him. Though a part of me thinks let him be PM again, make another hash of it, be found guilty of lying of parliament and barred from the House of Commons and then we will get the GE that is so sorely needed.

Design100 Sat 22-Oct-22 11:22:36

Agree Jaberwok with your comments. Sadly she needed keep eye better on her chancellors ideas and not to have done what she did on her mini budget. It was absolutely ridiculous what she announced regarding the tax cuts etc. Anyway still feel sorry for her t b h. Hopefully we won’t have the party boy back in office!
