Who?

Blossoming Fri 21-Oct-22 09:51:23

Are people really willing to re-elect the only British prime minister to be found guilty of a criminal offence while still in office? He is a pathological liar and his sole agenda is the glorification of Boris Johnson.

Daisymae Fri 21-Oct-22 09:49:50

Dominic Cummings tweeted earlier this year something along the lines of Johnson backed Truss knowing that she was likely to implode, giving him the opportunity to stand again. In July this sounded ridiculous. Obviously he knows how things work.

mokryna Fri 21-Oct-22 09:43:00

Johnson said ‘ I‘ll be back’. He and his conies planned to select the weakest person to make this possible, however it has happened sooner rather than later.

Farzanah Fri 21-Oct-22 09:36:42

If Johnson is re-elected then it will cause this country and TP to be in an even bigger turmoil than with Truss, and just when we need stable government, we will slither on for months until an early GE is called. Pathetic.

RichmondPark1 Fri 21-Oct-22 09:20:29

What was he even doing on a family holiday? He's already had several family holidays this year, parliament was in session and the country bumping along the bottom.

But hey, Sadiq Khan. That's what we should be focusing on. confused

growstuff Fri 21-Oct-22 09:19:56

I fear you are right Dickens. That man and his daft acolytes have caused this country so much harm and I really don't think we've seen the end of him.

RichmondPark1 Fri 21-Oct-22 09:18:31

At least Johnson senior has more sense than the current crop of MPs tweeting their support for Johnson e.g.

Jane Hunt - Loughborough
Marco Longhi - Dudley North

Urmstongran Fri 21-Oct-22 09:17:34

His family holiday ends today as already planned. They are all booked on a British Airways flight at teatime. Although I have read he is weighing up his options regarding a quicker return. Private jet? Wouldn’t Carrie object? Mind you as Sadiq Khan keeps his air miles up at top notch perhaps she will acquiesce.

I see Stanley Johnson is doing the circuits. Why do they give airtime to such a deeply deeply unpleasant dysfunctional man.

I saw one of Mr.Johnson Snr.’s interviews this morning.

He was clear in as much if Boris Johnson does not keep to his Enviromental Green pledges in the manifesto, and kick out Mr,Rees Moggs’ Bill which removes a lot of environmental protections he will not vote for his son.

I expect Liar Johnson would swear blind that that was his intention, then let Rees-Mogg's bill go right ahead once he was back in power.

According to "private" conversations with various 'others', Johson is ready to throw his hat into the ring - again - as he believes he can reverse the fortunes of the Tory party.

Looking recently at Microsoft News, there are enough individuals gagging for his return to make it feasible, something that will not have escaped the notice of Mr Man-of-the-people Johnson nor his supporters.

I imagine Johnson is already writing his autobiography in his head. He was unfairly dismissed from the party, only to return and save its fortunes and finally get Brexit done.

After Truss' resignation, he abandoned his holiday and hot-footed it back to the UK.

And the next prime Minister will be………

...probably not quite as bad as the last one but still someone who would have been unthinkable even in relatively modern history.

For the Johnson supporters, a tweet to think about.

^Witnesses who are working with the Privileges Committee tell me there are no shortage of people willing to testify against Boris Johnson. Risk is that they become even more determined if he returns as PM, which could make the whole fiasco much more embarrassing for the party.^

The idea the Conservatives could contemplate re-instating Johnson confirms how arrogant, out of touch they are.

Lucca Fri 21-Oct-22 07:55:49

I feel sick at the prospect of Johnson coming back.

M0nica Fri 21-Oct-22 07:48:20

RichmondPark1 I think you are being optimistic. Johnson seems to mesmerise the Conservative party, I think it possible that he could be reelected party leader.

However, I hope it is unlikely. For all he still has his supporters in the party and in the country, he also has a large body of people, including in the party, and especially in the country who would never vote Conservative, if he was in charge.

I would also not put my money on the Conservatives losing the next election. If they get the right person into No 10 this time and they take charge and pull the party together, they could turn the whole thing round. There are still two years to the next election and political memories can be short.

Labour are in the lead at the moment because they have got the 'anything but the Conservatives, they are a shambles vote', not because they have won people over to wanting positively to vote for Labour because they have the better policies (they may have, but that is not the main or even partial cause of the swing). In the same way the Conservatives won the last election with such a landslide because of the large 'anything but Labour, with Jeremy Corbyn in charge' vote, not because of their policies.

Daisymae Fri 21-Oct-22 07:19:08

I think that the Tories have collective amnesia. They have erased the debacle of Johnson's time as PM and somehow hope the the public will too. It's incredible.

Spice101 Fri 21-Oct-22 00:30:39

This seems appropriate at the moment . I do hasten to say that it is not just UK politics that is in this state.

RichmondPark1 Fri 21-Oct-22 00:26:54

I try to engage in sensible, polite conversation on gransnet usually. However, on this occasion, can I just say that Johnson has shot his bolt. He lied, cheated, broke rules and served himself and his rich friends. Who could want such a bad person in charge? Labour might only say what they would do, but if you can't judge the Conservatives on what they have done then shame on you.

Grantanow Fri 21-Oct-22 00:02:02

If Johnson were to be elected the Privileges investigation would not be an issue because the Privileges Committee has to report to the Commons and the Tory majority would simply vote an adverse report down so no consequences for Johnson whatever the report said. We would be stuck with him pending a General Election.

The Tesco Lettuce, love it. Great sense of humour whoever thought that one up. I hope someone decent gets in, it isn’t good to have instability in government at any time. Please, not Boris, you can do better than that!

DaisyAnne Thu 20-Oct-22 23:42:51

Anyone who thinks Labour has no plans is barking. What do they think the party has been doing all this time. They must be aware they may have to adapt them once they see what the figures are, but they most certainly have plans.

What they won't do is tell you in detail until they produce their manifesto - but then parties never do.

Lucca Thu 20-Oct-22 23:13:45

But there were comments that Labour had no policy plans. Here were some examples ?? Talk about no win.

*Zuki*, Labour and Starmer have made their plans clear on their website. Here's a few points as a starter

"To give this country the fresh start it needs, we need a new approach. The next Labour government will:

1. Create good, green jobs and new high-tech green industries across the UK via our climate investment pledge.

2. Scrap business rates and replace them with a system that will incentivise investment and level the playing field between high street businesses and global giants.

3. Create a new Industrial Strategy Council to embed long-termism into our economic strategy and form a new partnership with business.

4. Buy, make and sell more in Britain to strengthen the foundations of our economy and strengthen supply chains. Our plan will create jobs and growth in all parts of the country and help to secure Britain’s economy against future shocks.

5. Introduce a new deal for working people boosting jobs security and securing fair pay.

Here's the website where there is a lot more information labour.org.uk/issue/economic-growth/

It's easy to say. Harder to do.

He’s not everyone’s choice but I say bring back Boris. Or Rishi Sunak.. it’s interesting to know that Liz truss was one of many to get Boris out, now it’s her turn. It can’t be easy to be PM, or for any party that gets to have a PM, personally the conservatives are showing not to be trusted, rather shambolic time for them, although I voted for this party. I wouldn’t want to see Keir Starmer get in either.

Liz was loyal to Boris till the end. she wasn't one of those that "got him out."
