Boris Johnson has never been very popular with "most of the electorate". Ever.

I will not vote in the next election unless there is a credible independent standing (keeping fingers crossed, as I have someone on mind)

I think you'll find that you are, once again, deluding yourself Ug.

There have been numerous Conservative MP’s on various news items over the last 18 hours saying that their inboxes are full of support from constituents for Mr,Johnson.

As unpalatable as it is for some, there are people on the street who still see BJ as one of them he appeals to those on the fringes of politics due to his one of the blokes persona.

I question that Boris is still popular with the majority of the electorate as I am pretty sure the majority are totally sick of the Tory government.
I have voted Tory all my life but will not do so at the next election.
The fact that Boris is on holiday while parliament is sitting says it all.
He is popular with the Dorries of this world and the blue haired rinse brigade but not the rest of the electorate.
We need a GE to get rid of all the chancers in the present government.
I too am totally depressed Maw.

Maw, I too posted on GN my belief that this whole dreadful fiasco has been manipulated, and that Johnson would return like a knight on a white charger to ‘save the country’. I too have read and heard people calling ‘bring Boris back’ and have found it difficult to comprehend their thinking. Like gas-lighted victims of psychological abuse, it’s as if they are somehow drawn back to their abuser. Moths to a flame. On reading that there is even the slightest possibility of Johnson returning, I too have never felt so depressed about our country. I echo what you say Maw, do not be fooled by this evil man - please!

It is beyond depressing. I've just told OH that if Johnson becomes PM again, I'm leaving the country!

Boris is very popular with most of the electorate though whether he can garner the necessary 100 MP votes by Monday lunchtime is entirely another matter. There s so much in fighting and horse trading Maw it’s unpredictable.

I am and never was a Mr.Johnson fan.

According to news reports this morning Mr. Johnson is on 51,
Mr.Sunak 40 along with Penny Mourdant on 17.

I have never been fooled. I dont know about the whole plan theory but I have no doubt why Johnson trashed Sunak and supported Truss.

MawtheMerrier Fri 21-Oct-22 09:01:43

I was derided just a little when I suggested that there had been a “cunning plan” aka conspiracy to elect the worst possible Tory leader (known as Truss) to be such a disaster that Johnson would look good by comparison and the party faithful would beg him to come back.
Even in these hallowed halls of Gransnet I have seen, but will not name and shame, some who inclined towards this view and lo! it is come to pass that BJ is indeed trying to get 100 MPs to back his candidature.
I have never been more depressed. The inevitable consequence of the last 6 weeks should be a GE but slippery BJ has wriggled out of situations before.
This is not the jolly buffoon with the rumpled hair that Nadine Dorries clearly wishes to ruffle further, the bumbling giant with his shirt needing tucking in.
Don’t be fooled.
