He’s got a lot on his plate right now. He’s definitely doing things differently to Boris. “Focusing on domestic issues”.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 27-Oct-22 16:54:14

Let the King go instead then.

Ignoring it won’t make the problem go away.

winterwhite Thu 27-Oct-22 16:58:07

Bad look. He needn't stay long.

MerylStreep Thu 27-Oct-22 17:01:13

Not much point in going to these jollies ( because that’s all they are) as they don’t achieve anything.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Oct-22 17:03:32

He is better off stay here and working towards sorting out the UK’s problems.

He can watch/attend virtually if needed.

Yes, all those private jets flying in and out, cavalcades of cars along with copious amount of food and drink flown in.

If they are that serious, have a virtual conference.

Maybe he'll send that stalwart of the environmental movement Ms Coffey. Sorry, Dr Coffey.

If you knew whatou were talking about GG13, you'd know how ridiculous the concept of a virtual conference is for COP meetings.

Dream on.

Polite as always I see.

Urmstongran Thu 27-Oct-22 17:32:32

154 countries signed up to the UN COP summit and agreements were made concerning emissions. Less than 30 countries provided the requested data after the 12 month period.

Seems a lot of ‘hot air’, expensive flights, dinner and a back slapping jamboree. Until the next one comes along....

Says the woman who thinks COP is about private jets, cavalcades and food & drink.

Well we did have the thread concerning the copious car cavalcades, private jets etc when it was in Scotland?

Germany obviously doesn’t give a damn (from the Guardian)

It is about the carbon footprint of countries, looking for renewable energy along with urging us all to do our bit.

I have vowed not to fly in private jets or buy a gas guzzler.

They mean well, but preaching to others whilst not adhering to it themselves is definitely not a good look.

Prentice Thu 27-Oct-22 17:44:18

Perhaps it is a good idea for him not to go this time, as a new PM he will have much to do here.

kittylester Thu 27-Oct-22 17:44:21

It's not about the, private jets, cavalcades, food and drink - we all know that.

It's about not wasting resources to attend a meeting about not wasting resources. Simple.

GG13, I agree with every word you say.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Oct-22 17:46:45

Thank you kitty

The only flaw I can see in a virtual conference is that is a bit difficult to scratch someone’s back.

volver Thu 27-Oct-22 17:49:05

Making a curry right now.

Wording my reply.

I'll be back. ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-Oct-22 17:49:45

What do you suggest should happen instead?

We know that the world is doomed, so unless something is done our grandchildren are finished.

Why can't COP26 be virtual?
For the record, Forbes.com contacted the COP26 organizing committee about the prospect of a virtual conference, to which came a succinct reply:

“While we continue to engage with partners virtually, there are practical difficulties in delivering an event with over 30,000 delegates through virtual channels.”

Virtual meetings, the technology is there.

If Ant & Decs Saturday Night Takeaway, Britains Got Talent and The Voice can have virtual audiences, surely what are meant to be the worlds brightest minds can do it.

Calendargirl Thu 27-Oct-22 17:54:57

If he said he was going, some on GN would be saying he should stay and get on with sorting out the issues back here.

He can’t win.

I don’t think African countries could do ‘virtual’ COP summits? I’m sure I read that somewhere.

Mind you ... Scientific assessments have also confirmed that pledges made by governments at the 2015 COP held in Paris haven’t been met.

A lot of chat, promises, then ... forget it by MOST countries then.
