He’s got a lot on his plate right now. He’s definitely doing things differently to Boris. “Focusing on domestic issues”.

I haven't given up.
I've spent decades seeing it coming and only really since last year is it becoming generally accepted that it's here and now!

If I was years younger I would go out in the streets and protest publicly in some way....yes, I am putting up those posters. at least people will see them locally, the children come past from school.

The next one is a reminder of just how hot it was last July.
On the 19th it was 40.2 degrees, remember? And that evening my daughter was rushed to hospital to Intensive Care.
Why were there no warnings to take salt to balance the extra water we were advised to drink?
How hot will it get next summer? - there's a scary thought.

The infrastructure needs to change. Alternative ways of generating energy. It's the governments that need to take action.

Not driving our car to Tesco is a help, but it's the governments that need to step up.

We've spent 40 years trying to pretend there isn't a problem and now we're saying it's too late. Well I haven't given up.

Here is a graph that shows how much CO2 emissions fell in 2020 during Covid, we know how much our lifestyles changed during that year.

If we are going to make any impact on global warming those are the sort of changes that are going to be needed year after year to reverse climate change. There is no chance whatever of that happening, we are kidding ourselves that we are willing to change.

That makes sense Urms and if so, the right decision.

Excellent analysis of the COP process by Alex Thompson on Channel 4 news just now.

I agree with you Smileless. Perhaps he changed his mind when he found out Boris was going? Perhaps he wanted to ensure a message was sent to all attendees .... ‘Remember, I'm in charge now’.

Oh I am sure that's why Sunak went to Cop27 Urms, he couldn't let Johnson swan about as if he was still PM. With apologies to those of a sensitive disposition, but I did laugh when I read Johnson described as "the turd that just won't flush"
grin

I think it might have been his earlier speech to the Forestry Leaders Committee

I hope we find out why he was rushed off before he'd finished his speech. IMO having said he wouldn't go, regardless of whether or not I agreed with his original decision, he should have stuck to his guns.

Chopping and changing isn't a good look and doesn't inspire confidence.

Just seen it. Why no mention of it on the news?

Makes you wonder what the problem is here?

The PM has just been rushed off of the stage in the middle of his speech, according to many posts on Twitter?

MayBee70 Mon 07-Nov-22 15:43:15

His interview on Sky News just now: managed to include the benefits of privatisation, Ukraine, migrant crisis…

Daisymae Mon 07-Nov-22 08:18:07

Now Sunak is making a speech today at Cop27. Surely his words will have a hollow ring? He has been forced to attend mainly I guess because Johnson's attendance will make it seem as if he is still PM. I don't think that he is at all convincing.

Preventing the King from going to COP or even expressing his long felt views at his own reception is a huge own goal and missed opportunity .

PM Sunak appears to lack ant political antennae.

Alie2Oxon Sat 05-Nov-22 09:44:31

I seem to have missed any news on that!

Have to go out, but anyone know more?

Did I misunderstand the news last night or was the King not even allowed to make a speech at his own reception, even although he knows so much about this issue?

I heard Sunak with the " The King thinks..." business.

He knew exactly what he was letting himself in for.

I'm not sure he did. Which makes it even worse.

Some in the party thought he was not up to the job. Perhaps he's not perceptive / savvy enough.

This is a ridiculous decision to have made to not go to COP.

For this to be his first forced u-turn is very poor judgement.

There are only a limited amount of u-turns you can make before you are seen as being useless.

Well it's becoming their trademark.

I just wonder what the rest of the world thinks. It does matter.

Sunak is 42. William Pitt the Younger was 24 when he became PM. Blair and Cameron were both 43 on becoming PM. Age is hardly a key criterion.

But Blair and Cameron had been in politics for a lot longer than Sunak.
