Experts have slammed a NHS hospital in Scotland for asking 12-year-old boys if they are pregnant and referring to women and girls as 'people with internal reproductive organs.'

Maudi Fri 04-Nov-22 21:15:56

I agree Urmstongran it's rediculous asking 12 year old boys if they are pregnant, infact asking any male if they are pregnant and women over 50,the worlds gone mad or perhaps it's just Scotland and Sturgeon.

BlueBelle Fri 04-Nov-22 21:21:53

Absolutely ridiculous

growstuff Fri 04-Nov-22 21:27:03

An ancestor of mine had her last child when she was 52.

Maudi Fri 04-Nov-22 21:28:09

Typo ridiculous not rediculous

What about a transman?

Urmstongran Fri 04-Nov-22 21:30:13

Yes Maudi could be Sturgeon’s ‘you can identify as trans in ‘x’ number of weeks’. Is it two?

Perhaps halfpint France/Spain/Europe aren’t as ‘woke’ about this subject as the UK which is why your daughter hasn’t come across it. Here? It’s creeping along nicely.

Which brings me to another aspect.

How come our NHS has money to burn on this topic? Rewording of leaflets. New posters to be put up. I thought the NHS was severely strapped for cash.

It appears not. Sometimes.

M0nica Fri 04-Nov-22 21:35:14

I am 79. I went for a DEXA scan recently and was asked if I thought I was pregnant. I was sorely tempted to say 'possibly'.
Nothing to do with trans issues.

volver Fri 04-Nov-22 21:38:29

The reply was no she hadn't read anything on the subject and a disbelief that a 'load of old grannies' in England would be so obsessed

Excuse me - I'm not a granny and I'm not in England. 😂😂. But I do think there is a certain degree of obsession going on here...

As for saving money in the NHS - we have colour photocopiers and everything up here now. 😜

Same here! Over the last few months, I've had a DEXA scan, an echocardiogram, three mammograms, numerous ultrasounds, three MRIs, five sessions of radiotherapy and I've been asked if I was pregnant each time.

Goodness me! Who'd have thought it? grin

Urmstongran It would cost the NHS more to produce several different personalised questionnaires, in addition to the extra storage required. So what would happen if a patient were given the wrong questionnaire and had questions omitted because the receptionist didn't realise that a patient belonged to a particular group?

It's much easier and cheaper to stick a sign on the wall, so the hospital can say "well, we told you".

Can a 12 year old have radiography without consent from his/her guardian?

growstuff Fri 04-Nov-22 21:51:22

I don't think so, apart from an emergency.

It wouldn't just be radiotherapy, but any form of radiation, including X rays.

25Avalon Fri 04-Nov-22 22:03:05

That’s what I thought Growstuff.

I don't think there is anything approaching an obsession on here about these issues.

Compare them to a thread about... hmmm... let's see...

The royal family slagging off Meghan and there is no obsession.

As to the "why does it affect you argument, well, it probably will, somewhere down the line.

There is certainly an obsession on GN about Brexit.

On the face of it, this Scottish hospital is going over the top with this poster on the wall, but is no doubt worried it may be sued if it doesn’t make things clear.

Urmstongran Fri 04-Nov-22 22:09:31

I just think what a daft country we have become!

JaneJudge Fri 04-Nov-22 22:12:10

they ask everyone who goes for an x-ray if they are pregnant tbh

VioletSky Fri 04-Nov-22 22:13:47

4 threads about trans issues in 4 days has to be a new record?

Why don't you guys just start one and carry that on?

Zoejory Fri 04-Nov-22 22:15:40

I feel miffed, I went for an X Ray a few weeks ago and nobody asked me if I was pregnant.

Urmstongran Fri 04-Nov-22 22:17:21

Just not 12 year old boys JaneJudge in the oncology department waiting for their cancer radiation. That’s the point.

I’m on holiday BTW and haven’t seen the other 3 trans threads VioketSky. It happens. This topic caught my eye at teatime which is why I brought it up. If people aren’t interested they’ll pass by.

Septimia Fri 04-Nov-22 22:17:37

Not only is it part of the world going mad (although I expect they're covering their backs just in case they miss someone who is pregnant) but the thing that struck me is that they can't even spell "foetus" !

VioletSky Fri 04-Nov-22 22:19:16

Can you imagine of there were different forms for every age group, gender or whatever

Poor nurses would be run ragged looking for a Form 27/e

Just write NA and don't worry about it

Wyllow3 Fri 04-Nov-22 22:21:46

I dont understand. We have people using food banks, not able to clothe there families, we have refugees called "invaders" we have cuts ahead in the NHS and the Care system is on its knees, we have a rise - if we are to get into gender issues - of attacks on women by men - we have suicidal young people unable to see a practitioner to help them, we have people off ur age unable to heat their homes - yet this obsession continues.

Personally my choice will be just not to join in anymore - probably best to do this - and yes lets have a trans thread, but one is enough, given other matters that surely are of greater concern as we go into this tough winter.

volver Fri 04-Nov-22 22:24:41

I don't think this is a trans thread.

I think it's about a different obsession entirely. 🙄

Where does the poster say anything about an oncology department?

The poster mentions ionising radiation, which is what's used in normal X rays.

*Fetus" and "foetus" are both acceptable.
