Of course it's broken and it's a consequence of gradual decline since World War 2 which none of our political parties have managed to fix when in power. The only bright lights were the Education Act 1944, the creation of the NHS, the decision to join the EU single market and Sure Start. Otherwise, the Tories mainly and to some extent Labour have failed us, aided by the shrill voice of the right wing media and splits in the parties. Blair's government did make some progress but the Left hated him and weaponized Iraq against him. Both parties failed to regulate financial markets adequately hence the 2008 problems and failed to plan adequately for pandemics. Idiots shot the UK in the foot over Brexit. Too many countries chose to depend on Russian gas and Saudi oil. UK governments pandered to the anti-nuclear lobby. Now we are paying for 12 years of Tory ineptitude and Johnson and Truss with little prospect of better times to come or dealing with the climate crisis. Meanwhile people worry about tampongate and 'The Crown'. God help us all.

As I said, it's not surprising that some people think the Labour Party is anti-semitic.

It seems there are people who would far rather criticise Starmer for being pro-Jewish and not left wing enough and let in another Conservative government.

Andrew Feinstein is not just anyone he is Jewish and knows what he is talking about.

Grany Anybody who says they won't vote Labour because Starmer's wife is Jewish is anti-semitic. Unfortunately, it's not the only time I've come across that reasoning.

A few years ago, I thought it's ridiculous to think that Labour is anti-semitic, but I've become more aware of it and I'm afraid my opinion is that it is true. I've seen it on social media and even heard people in real life say things I've hardly been able to believe.

Like you, I found allegations of antisemitism in the LP difficult to believe but increasingly difficult to deny
Almost all the Jewish people I know lost family in the holocaust. Feinstein being in thst category doesn’t mean we have to follow his is et belief systems

Very interesting video- and I agree with so much of what he says. We also have Jewish friends who left Israel as they just could not stand by and watch the destruction and subjugation of the Palestinian people. I am totally anti-zionism, and as said agree with a lot he says- and I have been accused of being antisemitic- which is utter nonsense.

What is the alternative to an electable Labour Party? Tories again, and again some more. Give me Keir Starmer 1000 times and more, and NO he is not just another Tory, at all. And he is not anti-Palestinian- but he had to be very strict because of the accusations of the media.

I am a member of 3 parties, Lib Dems, Labour and Greens- and will support a coalition. And will do all I can to persuade Starmer that Brexit was a massive, undemocratic mistake, and the we need to rejoin Single Market and re-open FMOP.

Australia free trade deal a failure for UK, says George Eustice

Former environment secretary George Eustice has savaged the UK's free trade deal with Australia and criticised Liz Truss's role in negotiating it.

Mr Eustice, who helped secure the agreement, told a Commons debate that it was "not actually a very good deal for the UK".

It was the first post-Brexit deal negotiated from scratch.

But Mr Eustice argued it gave away "too much" after the then trade secretary Ms Truss "shattered" the UK's negotiation.

At the time the government estimated the Australia-UK Free Trade Agreement, signed on 17 December 2021, would unlock £10.4bn of additional trade while ending tariffs on all UK exports.

The deal also removed some visa rules. Young people are now able to work and travel in Australia for up to three years. UK architects, scientists, researchers, lawyers and accountants can also access work visas without being subject to Australia's skilled occupation list.

Mr Eustice told the Commons that now he is on the backbenches he "no longer has to put such a positive gloss on what was agreed".

Overall the UK "gave away far too much for far too little in return", he told MPs.

This includes giving Australia or New Zealand full access to the UK market to sell beef and sheep, while Australia still bans the import of British beef, he added.
