I like them. As to preaching hatred I think children are more sophisticated than we give them credit for, but I can understand that they will annoy those of a certain political persuasion.
What would be exposing children to hatred IMO would be a copy of a popular tabloid “news”paper dropping through the letter box every day.

Absolute Tosh!

No, its doesn't shock me.

Are we really so naive to not imagine what's said in the "playground" in schools? Children may know what not to bring home that might shock gran or mum and dad, but children will come across a great deal more. Knowing and understanding the words is better than ignorance or crooked half understandings they are likely to come across sooner or later on social media.

Yes the family have become more political, and that's because of current political conditions, and that's why I posted this on the politics forum, not any other.

I think it's good that the children have the opportunity to think politically, so many don't. And if you watch the video on the Queen you can see they are also brought up to love and respect where it's due.

But yes, in terms of enjoying their work, it's totally a marmite thing.

sickened by the words sung by the young boy.... '

If that sickens you check out the lyrics to their song in aid of prostate cancer. Sung to the tune of Mack the Knife, they urge men to go and get checked out and the lyrics are quite graphic and clear. They sing it in tribute to their beloved grandad who had the disease and they donated all raised funds to the Prostate Cancer charity. Definitely not nice people. hmm

I don’t know what you think is ‘not nice’ about a song sung by children who have lost their grandfather to cancer sung in a way that slams the message home to others and raise money for the cause. These aren’t 5 year olds, they live in the real world. The ‘young boy’ is 14!

Wyllow3 Sat 12-Nov-22 11:49:17

The oldest boy is 16.

Yes, the Mack the knife video shows so such love in their family to Grandad as well as being really good fundraiser and information giver on prostrate cancer. something not "Talked about as its embarrassing" (well I learnt a lot from it!)

You must have missed the hmm at the end of my post Casdon? To clarify for you, my not nice family comment was ironic: they're a close knit, socially and politically aware family who also happen to be musically talented. And by they didn't lose their grandfather. If you watch their video, you'll see him alive and well and deeply supportive of what his grandchildren are doing to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

Sorry MadameChirac. I didn’t watch this particular song, but I’ve watched lots of their others, and I think there have been some pretty silly posts on this thread about how what a clearly very loving and socially aware family are doing which ‘damages’ the children - when it clearly doesn’t. I don’t include you in those making silly posts.

MadameChirac Sat 12-Nov-22 12:40:00

No problem Casdon smile I agree with you too. The Marsh family are very close knit. They collaborate on a song's topic, they choose the tune that will work best and work together to mash the lyrics to the music. Every family member has a voice and can veto any part of it at any time. They each choose which part they want to sing or not sing. Every family member plays a musical instrument too. Maybe people would prefer the 4 socially aware, productive and clearly thriving Marsh children just sit in their bedrooms, play on their X boxes 24/7 and grunt at their parents in passing. Sigh.

What I particularly notice about their work is that it is politically and socially aware but NOT ‘party politics’
They have very moral set of values imo because they address integrity and truth politically. It’s when this is compromised that the satire sets in.

I agree Casden, and thanks too MadameC for pointing out the irony of what’s “not nice” with mention of the prostate cancer song. My OH has had prostate cancer, along with thousands of others, who unlike women, are often reluctant to talk about their symptoms or seek advice until too late. We could do with more “not nice” public awareness songs.

Watched some of it, switched it off, not impressed.
Agree with Bluebelle and others; not pleasant to see precocious children singing these sort of words.

I hear it in the playground everyday so don't need to imagine. But the difference is it doesn't come into the school building and is not encouraged by adults. In my opinion "fuck you/yuck fou" or anything rude does not have a place in the public domain anyway.
I'm pleased for them they do stuff together as a close knit loving family. How do they manage not to have a non compliant black sheep or stroppy kid I wonder?

Wyllow3 Sat 12-Nov-22 15:22:43

Oh, I'm sure they have their moments! But atm they are clearly happy to work together in this way.

About 3 months ago the mum -it would be the woman, of course! had a full on nasty cyber attack and they messed with the facebook page, but some lovely techie came in and helped them out.
