Ok I expect to get mauled for this but I was surprised to see LT in the line up of past ONe at the Senotaph this morning. Considering the mess she made I would think she would keep a low profile for a while.

Jaberwok Sun 13-Nov-22 22:33:02

Her premiership was confirmed by HLM, and although short it entitled her to be in the line up, it would have been odd and obvious if she had not been. We only saw a glimpse of her so hardly high profile!

The service and parade at the Cenotaph was fantastic as always, though I thought the King looked so sad. I guess the death of his mother, the business with Prince Andrew and the family in America all weigh heavily upon him, thank goodness for Queen Camilla.

Mollygo Sun 13-Nov-22 23:38:03

It was a very moving service and I was more interested in that than looking for who was there. I agree with your post Jaberwok.

If she were left out due to the mess she made then that would disqualify certain other ex PMs too wouldn’t it.

MagicWand Mon 14-Nov-22 00:32:31

I love the fact that wherever the ex Prime Ministers are gathered together in order, Liz Truss will have to stand next to BoJo!!

Wyllow3 Mon 14-Nov-22 00:55:25

On the "Now" show on R4 on Friday

...and....drum roll...

.....its November's PM....`Rishi Sunak!

Kim19 Mon 14-Nov-22 01:28:58

Maybe Liz Truss really believes her disastrous plan was the way forward for us.

Calendargirl Mon 14-Nov-22 06:50:08

I thought Gordon Brown looked uncomfortable standing and walking. I wonder if he has leg trouble?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 14-Nov-22 07:09:04

She is an ex PM, so she should be there.

Calendargirl Mon 14-Nov-22 08:48:49

DH and I commented how sparse the balcony was, only the Queen Consort and Princess of Wales.

Years ago, it seemed quite full, with the QM, Princess Margaret, Diana, Countess of Wessex, Duchess of York, the Duchess of Kent I think, and possibly others.

Same with the Festival of Remembrance, apart from the obvious ones, only the Gloucesters I think. Didn’t notice Edward and Sophie, perhaps they were on another fixture. Edward was at the Cenotaph yesterday, but no sign of Sophie.

Fleurpepper Mon 14-Nov-22 09:55:20

Even more shocking to see Johnson there!!! Yes, I know, he is ex PM.

Calendargirl Mon 14-Nov-22 10:05:00

Why shocking to see Boris Johnson there?

He always sings lustily at such events, no idea if he has a good singing voice though.

Glorianny Mon 14-Nov-22 10:14:32

Gosh if we started judging who should be at these events by the mess they made whilst PM who would pass the judgement and who would we rule out? Blair because he's a war criminal, Johnson for crimes and lies, Cameron for running away???? Bet there are a few more if I think about it.

Riverwalk Mon 14-Nov-22 10:15:36

It's farcical that Truss, unelected and PM for about six weeks will forever more have all the privileges, allowances and access that are afforded to former PMs.

Riverwalk Mon 14-Nov-22 10:17:28

And does she get a resignation Honours List? shock

Largolass Mon 14-Nov-22 10:25:09

The Countess of Wessex was on the balcony with the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester. Duke of Kent & Princess Anne’s husband we’re also on the balcony.

25Avalon Mon 14-Nov-22 10:30:21

Blair was there. Why not Truss? Anyway it’s not about that. For once everyone whatever their political inclination is there to remember and pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Casdon Mon 14-Nov-22 10:46:51

Blair was PM for a number of years, not 49 days. She was forced to resign. Spot the difference. It does seem wrong to me that after such a short time in office, making atrocious decisions and having lost the country so much money she is entitled to the same privileges as others who worked hard as PM for years.

henetha Mon 14-Nov-22 10:53:19

Failed prime ministers have a right to be there, apparently.
Personally I am glad they were.
I thought the King looked sad. A difficult occasion for him to get through I imagine, with his mother gone. It's his birthday today too.

Thanks Avalon, that’s right. Besides, once you start, where do you stop?

If I chose who not to have on display, any PM with either name beginning with B would come top of my list.

Boris would be top of my list too Mollygo. However, at least he managed a couple of years before being forced out so he has more reason to be there than the 49 day wonder.

👏👏
Oh yes, Casdon, but did you miss
Any PM with either name beginning with B.?

Casdon Mon 14-Nov-22 11:19:01

No, I didn’t miss it but I don’t agree on the others, as you’d expect. I think they justified their places, as did Major, Cameron and May because whether you agree with their politics or not none of them were out to shaft the country.

Jaberwok Mon 14-Nov-22 11:27:30

Liz Truss was unelected by the populace that is true, but in the Conservative party, people vote for the party, the party votes for the leader .
