Meghan Markle Faced 'Disgusting and Very Real' Threats in the U.K., Former Counterterrorism Head Says

So possibly NOT figments of fevered imaginations.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police said that there were genuine threats to the Duchess of Sussex's life while she lived in the U.K.

Neil Basu opened up about the alarming allegations amid his resignation as Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations for the Met Police in an interview released Tuesday. Basu, 54, is leaving the force after 30 years, during which he earned the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and served as the senior-most officer for the counterterrorism unit of the Met Police starting in March 2018 — two months before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding.

"You were in charge of royal protection. How would you characterize the threats that Meghan and Harry received?" journalist Cathy Newman asked in a quick clip shared on Twitter.

"Well, disgusting and very real," Basu replied, calling extreme right-wing terrorism the "fast-growing threat" to the country.

Oreo

As an aside, if you google Uncle Tom Cobley, which I just did out of interest, almost all the spellings for it are Cobley.
Possibly Cobleigh an alternative spelling either later or earlier.
I should get out more too😂
Shall we have a sing song?

Lovely, I like a sing song!
We used to sing with gusto as we came home across the moors!

Oh dear, we know because of some of ypthe incidents which have happened in the UK.

As I said earlier, it must be dreadful to go out, paste a smile on your face knowing that there are sick people making such threats; the security services have such a hard task keeping on top of this.

Thinking about this and remembering when Meghan said she didn't want to go to the Albert Hall for the Remembrance Service - I wonder if she'd been told about a threat then?

GaraJo, The children will grow up to question why everyone else is at fault but mom and dad, unless they are completely brainwashed.

They've got a granny in the US with them. And Harry is close to Bea, as well as Zara and her husband. That's a lot more relatives than my GS has.

They'll be fine. They're very privileged children.

A lot of young people did see Meghan & Harry as the part of the Royal family that they could find relevant & enjoy. It's very sad they left and it must have been a hard decision & in view of the threats on top of certain sections of the mainstream media having their claws out from the get-go, good that they took the decision & left.I have found some of their behaviour a bit cringeworthy since, but they are a couple who have been deeply hurt & if they lose their ability to keep things in perspective, & take all the flak, as a result it is not surprising - they are only human.I don't believe Prince Charles or the younger Royal household are racist, but I don't think the Sussex' distress about the bad things happening was validated or even recognised. Maybe some need to suffer in order for others to thrive in that family.

The children will be fine, they generally are in estrangement situations where toxic people have been cut off

Are you saying the rest of the family is toxic?
Do you mean the rest of Meghan's family?

From what we have seen and heard (unless you know more, of course), Harry's family love them all.
And, of course, so does Meghan's mother.

Megan's family

Didn't think anyone else was estranged as they are still in contact

She as a person is history now and no longer worth discussing. Of no importance really.

I wonder how much Megsie paid him to say that 😁

As children they will be brainwashed as adults they will make their own judgements

For someone who wanted PRIVACY she certainly seems to be going the right way !!!! She needs to keep quiet and just go away ...we are NOT interested in what she thinks or has to say ....just let her have her desired 'PRIVACY'............

Totally agree with this. If no cameras are there Old Megsie takes her own crew even when visiting a cemetery to supposedly to pay respects. She likes attention, that's why they left, she wanted to be top dog

Why not let the Megan and Harry followers, free to follow, the rest of us concentrate on something interesting. We really don't need to know how mega millionaires are suffering. Ordinary hardworking peope who keep this country going are struggling with the basics.,Time forca reality check I think.

Why don't YOU get on with your life? I really couldn't care less about anybody in the royal family, including Harry and Meghan, but it's sickening to see the obsession with them by some judgemental posters. Do you really have nothing better to do with your life? if you don't like them, try looking for the "off" button!

I agree that Meghan failed to adjust to her life in the RF and the UK but don't agree that her failure was purely due to Lady S, members of the RF or palace aides and officials.

It's possible MM might have stood a chance of adjusting if the media hadn't watched her every move - and reported on it. Who knows? Certainly not me - because it may not have made any difference. I just don't think the constant media attention - inevitable of course - helped her situation in any way.
I feel sorry for anyone entering the hallowed precincts of the RF - the press, recognising the public's insatiable appetite for all things 'royal' will exploit every angle.
Kate - and her family - also had to endure media scrutiny.
It's all a bit unsavoury.

I looked at the daily m this morning. As always, it has pages of criticism of H and M, setting them against W and K in some kind of horrible competition. In the DM view, of course one couple are pantomime villains, the other perfect in every way.

Imagine any family subjected to this kind of exploitative, nasty publicity and not being negatively affected.

growstuff Sun 04-Dec-22 09:08:23

It's not just the papers. Twitter and other social media sites have hundreds of thousands of really vile posts about Harry and Meghan, not to mention Piers Morgan's personal campaign. I honestly think he has some kind of obsessive condition.

I have no opinion of either of them. I guess they might be better to keep a low profile for their own good, but on the other hand, I don't see why they should. I can't help thinking that there must be something in some people's psyche which means they have to have some kind of hate figure and/or have the right to judge people. I don't get why they don't just deny them the oxygen of publicity.

In a morning with a lot of competition, this has got to be the funniest post yet.

Why not let the Megan (sic) and Harry followers, free to follow, the rest of us concentrate on something interesting.

In the midst of a blizzard of posts telling how they aren't liked and should be ignored.
