Meghan Markle Faced 'Disgusting and Very Real' Threats in the U.K., Former Counterterrorism Head Says

So possibly NOT figments of fevered imaginations.

In a new interview with Channel 4 News, the former head of counterterrorism for the Metropolitan Police said that there were genuine threats to the Duchess of Sussex's life while she lived in the U.K.

Neil Basu opened up about the alarming allegations amid his resignation as Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations for the Met Police in an interview released Tuesday. Basu, 54, is leaving the force after 30 years, during which he earned the Queen's Police Medal for distinguished service and served as the senior-most officer for the counterterrorism unit of the Met Police starting in March 2018 — two months before Meghan and Prince Harry's royal wedding.

"You were in charge of royal protection. How would you characterize the threats that Meghan and Harry received?" journalist Cathy Newman asked in a quick clip shared on Twitter.

"Well, disgusting and very real," Basu replied, calling extreme right-wing terrorism the "fast-growing threat" to the country.

I take it that this paranoid couple are not thinking of coming back to the uk in the future. The house they have here should be used for housing the homeless, they surely would not want a big property like that staffed and unused for years. This would show the world how generous they are as they already have a mansion in America.. Any privileges they have, including titles should be removed this would give them the true anonymity they so desperately seek. If I were Charles I would write him out of my will, H clearly despises him and his Royal Family.

VioletSky Mon 05-Dec-22 15:50:36

Probably everyone who lives between two properties should be housing the homeless, or at least not driving up the housing market

In what possible context could a photograph of the press with their cameras attending a film premier have anything whatsoever to do with H & M? Neither of them were there and they hadn't even met!!!

We don't know do we Summerlove, and to post that for all we know H may have been told that would be the case but minds were changed when his future bride was met, is another example of an unsubstantiated slur of racism.

To demonstrate what paparazzi look like.

Just as the man in a bearskin who wasn't Harry demonstrated what a Guardsman looks like and the papers being printed and packed demonstrated what a pile of papers look like.

Smileless2012 Mon 05-Dec-22 16:04:02

Oh of course volver, because without that particular visual aid we'd have no idea what the paparazzi look like, would wegringrin.

volver Mon 05-Dec-22 16:09:04

Yes, that's right. hmm. All trailers should just be people sitting behind desks summarising the programs they are promoting.

No visual aids now! People will get confused!!

VioletSky Mon 05-Dec-22 16:11:52

I literally have no idea what they look like despite my massive fanclub

Smileless2012 Mon 05-Dec-22 16:18:22

Trailers are used to wet the appetite of a potential audience. They show snippets of what the film or documentary will be showing, so why have a visual aid which has nothing to do with the subject matter ie H & M?

Why not show a photograph of loads of paparazzi at an event they'd attended?

What truly fascinates me about this couple is the stupidity of their lies and fabrications because as we've seen once again, they're so easily disproved.

icanhandthemback Mon 05-Dec-22 16:32:47

The press and paparazzi have hounded Harry and his girlfriends since he came of age. The waiting press in the photo was just symbolic of that; it was a Stock Photo which are often used on all sorts of adverts. It doesn't make the message any weaker. I think it just probably demonstrates that Harry and Meghan didn't release all the images for the programme and can hardly be blamed for what Netflix has shown. Film editors can spend hours looking at their films to check for errors and at the first outing, some sharp eyed fan will notice something. IMBD has a section for such errors!

Oreo

Two things about this thread.
The first is that Netflix using a Harry Potter premiere to demonstrate the paparazzi hounding H and M , when at that point they hadn’t even met, is showing that Netflix are happy to include lies if it sells films and by association so are H and M.
The second’s this thread’s becoming The VioletSky thread. It seems to happen a lot.

That’s really rude to VS. Ive seen threads where you post a lot including telling people to stop posting ! I can’t honestly be bothered to check this to see how many times various posters have contributed.

Sparklefizz Mon 05-Dec-22 16:53:56

imaround My point was, neither you nor I have any idea of what context those photos are being used, because we have not seen the documentary.

Maybe that paparazzi photo taken at the Harry Potter premier was to indicate how much H&M love Harry Potter then. grin

You do have a point that stock images are often used these days icanhandthemback.
I did ask someone this afternoon who has a bit of knowledge of celebrities advertising their films and plays etc. Apparently 40 or so years ago, before the Internet took off, "A list" actors were very demanding about their advertising material and would closely monitor and scrutinise it for truths or errors. Less was more.
Today there are so so many A to Z list celebrities, and so many "famous" people, or people who think they are famous, that the important thing is to get stuff out there quickly without a lot of attention to detail. And the more photos they can find to pack their trailers the better, even if these are not always genuine.
Maybe it's the American way too. Not necessarily slapdash, but more concerned with the drama and overembellishment.

Yes weren't there photos of William Catherine and Harry acting out Harry Potter?

Joseanne Mon 05-Dec-22 17:10:22

Here
So they all love Harry Potter.

VioletSky Mon 05-Dec-22 17:12:57

There is a stock available for literally everything.

You need a picture of a man in a suit in the bath with a rubber duck on his head?

Stock photos have you covered.

for a small fee to remove the logo

VioletSky Mon 05-Dec-22 17:17:21

If you can imagine it, it probably exists

I bring you "Woman throwing spaghetti in a forest"

Did we not know the Internet us weird? I mean, I'm on it lol

OK going now before I get told off again

Smileless2012 Mon 05-Dec-22 17:26:26

Looks as if they do Joseanne. The three of them must miss those times especially as so much has changedsad.

Lexisgranny Mon 05-Dec-22 23:04:37

Just as a point of interest, the ‘Harry Potter’ photograph used by Netflix in the trailer was not of paparazzi at all, but of official photographers, according to theTelegraph today.

I saw an article about the Battle of Britain in the Telegraph. To illustrate the article, there was a picture of a "Spitfire", except anybody with a nanoparticle of knowledge of warplanes would have known that it wasn't a Spitfire. Spitfires are possibly the most iconic of British WW2 planes and this one wasn't even close. Sorry to say, but the job of finding a graphic to accompany newspaper articles or cut-price films is given to people who often don't know what they're doing. During the pandemic, there were pictures of classrooms with well-spaced desks and no more than a dozen or so pupils in each room. They were stock photos and were nothing like real classrooms.

Google "paparazzi alamy" and look at the first picture which appears. Some lazy picture editor has been given the script of the trailer and tried to find pictures to fit the words.

Lexisgranny Mon 05-Dec-22 23:59:02

See what you mean. Someone’s knuckles should be wrapped it’s certainly the same photograph, though it has been cropped to remove the figure of one of the actors, the boy who played Ron Weasley, I think. Really lazy researching

growstuff Tue 06-Dec-22 00:51:11

I don't suppose there are many (if any) photos of the paparazzi targeting anybody. They're more likely to be lone operators with long distance lenses and you're more likely to see pictures they've produced rather than photos of the paparazzi themselves.

I'm not even tempted to watch the Netflix documentary, especially if the production standards of the trailer are representative. I've no doubt, however, that people will watch it, just so they have ammunition to continue the bitchfest ... thus providing oxygen for the couple they claim seek attention. It's the perfect real-life soap! hmm

Allsorts Tue 06-Dec-22 07:22:36

IT was clearly shown in the newspapers photos of M and H, were false, the originals were shown, same reporters, bystanders, cars and building. Isn't it illegal to wrongly accuse people and falsify evidence? If there is any racism surely it's against the people wrongly accused of it. it's against H family, all of them it seems, it can't be against M father he adored her, she publicly rubbished him, he hasn't even seen his gc and he bought M up. She put her past behind her so H has to follow suit. They know racism was a good card to play. Why do people subscribe to Netflix it or buy the book?
The thread continues as more extreme revelations come out daily. Now there is evidence of falsfying "facts" perhaps this will change. The Spare with all his wealth was very much loved , his wife was welcomed but it wasn't enough. They need to be exposed for the harm they have caused. . I feel sorry for Will and Kate and his father, how true what Shakespeare wrote about an ungrateful child.
