Buckingham Palace Aide resigns
(1001 Posts)BBC News - Buckingham Palace aide resigns over remarks to black charity boss

Well at least the Palace took this incident seriously and didn't fob off Ms Fulani's complaint.
Right from the start I said this has Meghan Markels fingerprints all over it.
It is a clear case of acting with entitlement and demeaning the person you are to engage with.
I think this point hits the nail on the head. Lady Hussey is part of the privileged, entitled, ruling class. It’s in her very DNA to regard many sectors of society as beneath her. She wouldn’t question the right or wrong of moving someone’s hair etc because, in her hierarchical view of life, the person is ‘lower than her’. Look at all the bowing, scraping and doffing of caps that goes on around the royals, even in 2022! This current event highlights the condescending behaviour of those with privilege - as well as being about skin colour & heritage it’s about the deeply ingrained classism that runs through UK society like a stick of bloody Blackpool rock!
Both ladies are the products of the age they were born into, I would imagine it would be like meeting someone from another planet their experiences must be so different and yes Lady H should never have pulled somebody else's hair around and asked the sort of questions she did. She has paid a considerable price for this in her world.Watching an interview with Ngozi, she sounds very unhappy living in what is her own country, what can we do?

If, as a white woman, I happened to be born in an African country and someone asked where I was from I'd assume it was because I was white. I wouldn't consider the question to be racist. Just saying.
Exactly. I know someone in that situation, and she wasn’t upset if people asked her where she was really from.
However, it must be difficult to guess what will offend people. It isn't difficult. It is known offensive (racist) tactic to take. I know not to do it. Most people know not to.
How, in law, is that racist? You are making up your own truths in an attempt to be right.
Jesus. I didn't say it was a law. But most people would regard it as racist.
Take a street poll. I'm betting 90% would regard it as racist.

No opportunity for Lady Susan Hussey to give her perception of what happened. Just maintaining a dignified silence after abjectly apologising and resigning.
Well, we have quotes. And a witness. So regardless of what she thinks, facts are facts.

It sound like Falusi was a “agent provocateur” why else would she be wired and a immediately shout racism.
William and Katherine are having to endure another lecture on colonialism and slavery, isn’t it time we moved on. Is this going to happen on every overseas tour, if it was me I would probably leave public life altogether, regardless of the privileges they have.
They were also booed by the audience. Easy to see where public opinion, in the USA at least, is going.
A lot of people still think that way.
I'm glad it's been brought out into the light.
It's not just a change in terms so people learning to shut up, either, it's the need to examine hearts and minds about lingering racism.
Gagajo regarding the booing it depends on where/what MSM you are reading/watching many are reporting that the Wales’s have been cheered and warmly welcomed.
Quotes are not facts Gagajo nor is there an unbiased witness.

Well, at least the doubters no longer need be in any doubt.
Duchess of Sussex had a point.
Apparently not. The Duchess of Sussex should have just realized that people were trying to be polite. Apparently.
She should have given them more grace.
Racist people are just going to be Racist, and she should just suck it up.
and when you put your hand in my hair like I'm not even a person
My eight-year-old DD had this problem when we lived in China.
I don’t like people putting their hand on my back either.

Ah ok. So this Lady whats-her-name said nothing wrong but resigned anyway.
But as you yourself said earlier. Lady H was wearing a wire. So there will be evidence which will then be factual.
Twisting your argument to defend a racist. #desperate
Not desperate- just keen for people to see that there are two sides to this and we're only hearing one.

Quick Google shows The Times, Sky, Newsweek, Australian sites etc etc reporting it.
I don’t like strangers touching me Full stop.
At a pinch don’t mind the family😄😄. We are the least touchy family I know really, and all of us are the same.

Your arguments are contradictory.

Yes CNN and the US media of course, BBC. And Sky.
I think it is becoming a real problem for the RF.
They should have tackled this issue years ago. But I guess no one challenged them.
They simply got the hump when DoS brought it to their attention.
It’s impossible though, to consider this incident without acknowledging Britain’s empire and colonial past. As a white woman I’ve experienced misogyny and other forms of unpleasantness that the white men in my life have not. I accept that black British people have experienced racism and I havent

I'm going to take another stance here after reading the transcript and watching T.V. Why did the coloured lady who was born in England and is 61 feel she had to dress like the people of the country where her parents were from. Provocative? making a point? We are all taking her side but did she not realise that dressing the way she did brings questions?
I know freedom of dress, freedom of speech and I agree with them but surely a well-chosen outfit to catch attention. She didn't. Where in the world is that traditional dress?
The Lion King?

It is a pity Ms Falusi's case is somewhat undermined by her twitter history of distrust of white people and the allegation that MM was abused by the RF. This will all come back to bite her.
Also, isn't an Organisation run for black women somewhat racist? Is that like saying an organisation run for women only is sexist?
How would you feel about an organisation run solely for white women?
Just in the interests of research.

Exactly Iam. Lived experience.
Would a white person born in Africa describe themselves as African though? It is difficult for white people to recognise that people can suffer discrimination as the result of their skin colour, since it almost never happens to them. Maybe if the older lady had just said something like, " that's an amazing outfit, where does it come from?" she might have had more of a proper conversation. The late Queen used to ask " Have you come far?" which is a brilliant question, because if they said "Hackney" they could have discussed that, if they said "Antigua or somewhere that would be another topic for conversation. Pity Hussey didn't follow her example.
Would a white person born in Africa describe themselves as African though?
But why African?
Would I describe myself as European first or British?
Africa is a continent, not a country.
I have friends and wider family from various countries in Africa, they'd describe themselves as Zimbabwean, South African, Nigerian etc.
