How much do GNers know about him?

Are those with grandchildren, especially male ones, aware of any influence he has had?

Many secondary school teachers are now having training to spot the signs of influence and how to deal with it.

Aware of him two teenage GS’s who in their words he’s a prat Grandma (the one that’s autistic went on to explain why he was a prat he sees things very much good/bad right/wrong)

Fortunately son and DiL are both extremely tech savvy and monitor the boys gaming computers and phones along with constantly installing good manners and the importance of respecting all females

Thanks! I'd heard of him, but I've been reading a lot of teacher message boards and I was quite alarmed that teachers are becoming aware how much he seems to have influenced their pupils. They're being warned to look out for warning signs, such as the music he uses as his theme tines.

I'd not heard of him at all but my sons had. If its worth anything, they also think lowly of him and the young men I work with think publicising him is as dangerous as his actions - which gives me some hope but how on earth was he allowed to do all that stuff and sell it as some sort of lifestyle choice? angry

It was on the BBC News that they are even having classes on him to try and overrule some of his teachings. Some of the boys are repeating his phrases to the female teachers and disrespecting them.

Exactly! On the sites I've been visiting, some female teachers have said the same thing.

Even in primary schools

JaneJudge I think it's too late to ignore him. His influence is already out there. FWIW I think he's part of a more widespread pattern.

Chestnut Wed 18-Jan-23 10:10:35

He has been banned from various platforms but the internet is not under anyone's control. Free speech and all that. There are thousands of so-called 'influencers' out there influencing our children in all sorts of ways. If someone portrays a cool lifestyle and says cool things then millions of kids will see it and follow their guidance, especially if they tell them how to be an alpha male and make shed loads of money at the same time.

Not sure this link will work but it's from todays Times and gives a good oversight of how, and more importantly why, he's got such a hold on our young.....

Why is the misogynist Andrew Tate so popular? His young fans speak out

He has manipulated the TikTok algorithm to the nth degree.

Another tactic he employs (incredibly successfully), is to ‘befriend’ boys with healthy living; discipline; positive thinking etc.

Then he ‘seduces’ them with his cars; his glamorous lifestyle; his money.

Next he introduces them to misogyny and violence; and finally he radicalises them.

He’s not as daft as he seems.
That’s the really, really scary thing

JaneJudge Wed 18-Jan-23 10:19:51

It is like a form of grooming isn't it?

FannyCornforth Wed 18-Jan-23 10:20:27

Exactly Jane (hello smile)

I watched two lengthy interviews with Piers Morgan (who gives a good interview whatever you think of him). AT makes out he respects women, which is at odds with some of the things he has said previously and the subsequent people trafficking and rape charges. PM challenges him but stays on a friendly footage rather than get into a fight, because that will get more co-operation and information out of him. These interviews were done before he was arrested of course, so no-one knew about the criminal activity. They are long interviews but fascinating. You will find them on You Tube on your TV which is better of course.

Did you know that his dad (Emory Tate) was a chess grand master?
He’s really famous in the chess world.
Tate himself played chess ‘professionally’ (I don’t know if that’s the right word in this context) as a child.
I imagine that he’s actually quite a complex individual.
He’s also of dual heritage (Emory was African American).
His sister is a lawyer in the US.
I think that he has daddy-issues.

FannyCornforth Wed 18-Jan-23 10:31:21

This is utterly ridiculous. And weird.
After reading it, I learnt that Emory Tate actually died of a heart attack himself a few years previously.
Get Dr Freud on the line…

There are some positive aspects to his teachings and this comes out in the interviews with PM. Giving boys guidance on healthy living, discipline and positive thinking is definitely a good thing. Unfortunately he follows up with the other stuff which is based on greed and misogyny, and now as we have discovered, (allegedly) people trafficking and rape! He could have been a force for good but his evil streak is far too powerful. He only presents the positive stuff to PM in the interviews which is very clever.

By the way, he says he has converted and is now a Muslim.

JaneJudge Wed 18-Jan-23 10:41:35

It's the first time I'e watched anything with him in. He seems very immature and awkward confused

FannyCornforth Wed 18-Jan-23 10:43:56

I think that makes him even more attractive to young lads.
As well as being a master of the universe, he’s also the bloke next door. Relatable. Achievable

Chestnut Wed 18-Jan-23 10:52:28

Have you watched the whole interview? He may have been nervous at the start, coming face to face with PM but he gets into his stride and has an answer for everything.
