Rishi Sunak not wearing a seatbelt.

I hope he’s fined and apologises. If he’d been involved in an accident, potentially police, paramedics and A and E could be involved. It isn’t all about you Rishi, being busy/forgetting/whatever other excuse. Our NHS is in crisis, your health minister advised the public to avoid dangerous sports so as not add to the pressures during unprecedented strikes.

There’s no hope then. 😁

He has been fined

He was one of those fined for breaking lock down rules right?

Not the best example to set

Makes him look careless.
Not a good look for a PM.

It shows, I think, that he is just not very good at politics, not to realise how this would be pounced on. Or he just thinks that the law is for the little people.

My real worry is the quality of his team.

I have a friend who was PPS to two health ministers and they said, for example, that on crossing the threshold of a hospital the first thing they said was "role your sleeves up, tuck your tie into your shirt and remove your watch. Someone will be taking photos".

It seems that Rish!'s team say "break the law, take your own photos and upload them to social media"

I didn't care that much about Johnson eating a piece of cake or his wife's wallpaper,

Oh, growstuff. I hadn't realised that he ate wallpaper, too... wink

MaizieD I love the idea that whilst idling away an hour in a Saturday on Gransnet I'm actually multitasking 😇 grin

Possibly this only happened when he had the munchies

Agree with you henetha.

What a fuss. He wasn’t driving! . If anyone was at risk it would have been him. Worry about what he’s saying.

vegansrock Sat 21-Jan-23 20:29:53

Not wearing a seatbelt in the back can endanger those in the front seats if they are projected forward. That’s why the law was brought in in the first place.

You will find cars had to be fitted with belts in the 1960s. I know this to my cost as I was in a car that skidded (very slowly) on snow in the winter of 1966/7. I was thrown out as it hit one high bank. It then very gently hit the other and slid back over me. The car was booked to have belts fitted the following week.

For those who feel they can talk for others, saying that they think we all leave our belts off from time to time, please believe me - we don't.

I wasn't driving Allsorts. Have you watched Callistemon's Youtube link? If not I will repeat it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKHY69AFstE You need to watch it for the sake of others.

Allsorts,mi worry about what he’s saying, about his politics, That doesn’t stop me concluding he was wrong not to be wearing a seat belt. We all know they save lives. We need to protect our emergency services and wearing seat belts is part of that.

DaisyAnne Sun 22-Jan-23 09:44:40

I can only think that Alsorts mind is clouded by her political bias. The laws are there for a purpose. Perhaps she also believes only the speeding driver is at risk when they break the law. Maybe M0nica would also tell us that "most people do that".

Why have laws if it's okay to break them as long as you are rich, feel superior and, it appears, are biased towards Conservatism?

One swallow never made a flock, all these sanctimonious comments people need to think hard about the times they have either inadvertently or on purpose broken the law . Had a parking ticket passed to them instead of buying a new ticket? Kept the pound in the trolley when someone left it?I could go on. Yes, it was dangerous for him and others and he has paid his fine.

Whenever has keeping a trolley pound endangered anyone?

I'd put it in the charity box but then I tend to be sanctimonious.

Had a parking ticket passed to them instead of buying a new ticket? You have to key in your car number which is printed on the ticket 🤔

You don't have to key in your car reg in a lot of car parks where I live.
Instead of looking for a charity box why not just take it to the reception desk in the Supermarket as I have. Then they give you one of those disks that no longer fit the slot because they have upgraded the trolleys and forgotten the slots.

He has done a lot worse things than this.

Haven't we all done it at some time if we admit it? I once dropped an animal off at the vet to be Put down . When we got home neither my DD nor myself had put our seat belts on, we were too upset thinking of the animal. I have also been to funerals where people have got out of the back of cars when it was obvious they had not fastened their seat belts. Their mind wasn't on their own safety.
So he's made a mistake he'll pay the fine and make sure he hopefully doesn't do it again. Many of us know people have been fined for speeding paid to watch the film and gone on to do it again. Human is the word that comes to mind.
He just needs to learn a lesson.

No, I don't think I have.

I passed my driving test over 50 years ago and I wore a seatbelt from the beginning. I've always insisted front seat passengers wear one - and back seat ones too since it became the law.

I hope your complementary halo has arrived. Never done anything wrong in 50 years of driving who are you trying to Kidd think harder?

So did Tony Blair when he forgot to tell a whole nation that Saddam's weapons of mass destruction had not been verified.
Never mind his actions led to thousands being killed and a country in ruin with no infra structure, he probably remembered to use his seat belt.

So you think everyone, like you, breaks laws. It simply isn't true. All growstuff is doing is obeying the law. The vast majority do that.

growstuff did not say she had Never done anything wrong. Why the need for spite because someone choses not to break laws? Do you think you are the better person for doing so? I have no wish to be a criminal and it seems growstuff doesn't either.

I wonder why you do Yammy?

😂

They'll become collectors' items and worth a fortune one day.
As will supermarket trolleys.

Now you are trying to say two wrongs make a right. They never did. In this case whatever happened in the past is no justification for Sunak breaking the law. How do you make out that it can be?

He broke the law. Nothing justifies it and he was fined as anyone else would be. Why can't you understand that?

Yammy Sun 22-Jan-23 10:40:49

Am I being spiteful, or am I not understanding? How do you know what my understanding is, that's your opinion because I don't agree with your ideas.
I think I am pointing out that we all make mistakes. Hopefully, we all learn from them, never make them again and take the consequences of our actions seriously.

Some people just make more silly mistakes than others Yammy, don’t they? This is the first time any Prime Minister has broken the law twice and been caught out and fined. At best, that is very careless indeed.

Only because others were too underhand to be caught.

Two wrongs never make a right.
He made a mistake, he was fined.
Continually pointing out a mistake that someone has already been punished for or reiterating that someone has made two mistakes is up to your own personal choice of action.

That’s not logical, is it? In the event that people were underhand they were doing things deliberately, not making stupid mistakes. You can’t have it both ways.

This is like partygate all over again on here.

'It was only a piece of cake'

'I bet everyone broke the lockdown laws'

'He's been fined and apologised'

Then a bit of 'whataboutery.... grin
