Rishi Sunak not wearing a seatbelt.

I hope he’s fined and apologises. If he’d been involved in an accident, potentially police, paramedics and A and E could be involved. It isn’t all about you Rishi, being busy/forgetting/whatever other excuse. Our NHS is in crisis, your health minister advised the public to avoid dangerous sports so as not add to the pressures during unprecedented strikes.

This is like partygate all over again on here.

'It was only a piece of cake'

'I bet everyone broke the lockdown laws'

'He's been fined and apologised'

Then a bit of 'whataboutery.... grin

I don’t think it’s like partygate. That was full of denials.
What exactly do you want?
He’s been punished.
What else would you like to happen MaizieD?

VEry different. But honestly, let's choose our battles and there are so many truly massive ones. This one is just hiding those that matter, and that is such a waste of time and energy.

Partygate was so different, because those people had asked the rest of the population to make huge sacrifices- not seeing loved ones, not holding the hand of dying parents or spouses, not attending funerals, being cut off from family and friends. So so different.

The world is in crisis, economic problems, war, on the verge of environmental disaster and people are banging on about this. He admitted it and paid the fine, all within 24 hours. Meantime my husband was assaulted almost 3 weeks ago and is still waiting to talk to the police about it. Talk about blown out of all proportion!

I am so sorry for you Gillycats. I hope your husband is feeling better and the Police come soon and take all the details.
I agree with you we should all forget about the seat belt incident and take the wider picture of what is happening in our own country and the world.
Some people on here just like to have their own opinions shown to be right and I don't see why they should be allowed to.
I know I have argued back about why shouldn't I ? Someone at the beginning said it all should be forgotten and I agreed with them.

It’s not going to go away Yammy. It’s not just ‘people on here’ you know. This is from BBC News.

Given I can't understand how it happened as I never remove my seatbelt, he apologised and paid a fine. Should be done.

When is enough enough?

Mollygo Sun 22-Jan-23 13:15:28

It’s not going to go away -certainly not! When anyone commits a crime and is punished for it, however large or small, their sins should be paraded in public for others to relish and gloat over ad infinitum.
Long live Sunak’s vilification!
Except it distracts from other more important things in politics at the moment and suggests that this is the worst thing he has done.

Am I being spiteful, or am I not understanding? How do you know what my understanding is, that's your opinion because I don't agree with your ideas.
I think I am pointing out that we all make mistakes. Hopefully, we all learn from them, never make them again and take the consequences of our actions seriously.

This is not about "ideas". Laws are facts, not something we can choose to obey or not as the mood takes us.

We do all make mistakes, but this was not a mistake. Sunak must be aware of the law even if you are not. If you aren't you will find ignorance of the law is no defence.

Sunak is supposed to be someone who would know these things and vowed not to follow the Johnson style of "honesty". He stood up and described himself as one of the people you call "sanctimonious".

He painted himself as someone who would do the right thing. He didn't. He has no one to blame but himself if people point out that he said one thing and did another.

I'm horrified at how many people on here think that someone as prominent as the Prime Minister not wearing a seatbelt, and being filmed not wearing it, is trivial. The horrible advert about the unrestrained boy killing his mother by being thrown forward when the car stopped has already been mentioned. How many of you who take it so lightly have spent time removing bits of windscreen glass from the face of someone who has broken the glass with that face? I can assure you that it is no fun to do, and even less fun to have it done.
