Former Tory supporter and rocker Sir Roderick Stewart (78) backs Labour and offers to pay for public to have scans.
He phoned Sky News ‘while working on his model railway’ smile

Thank you GG

I thought that it was a news story.
(As did the editors of most major media outlets)

And I love a bit of celebrity fluff and frivolity.

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 10:46:11

Sorry -I meant ‘good news story’.

Kate1949 Fri 27-Jan-23 11:00:46

Not sure why people are calling him a nob.

HeavenLeigh Fri 27-Jan-23 11:08:39

Always liked Rod

I think having 8 children by 5 different women might have something to do with it!

Well he is really isn’t it?

I suppose eccentric is kinder.

Agree - he seems kind-hearted...

I remember when he helped out some model train enthusiasts after some yobs had smashed up a display.

Perhaps pedantic, but ‘nob’ is slang for nobility, ‘knob’ is the correct word, if you wish to use that description. Or perhaps nobility was meant for a Sir? 🙂

I used to think he was a "bit of a nob" (loads of children and fanatical football supporter with spiky hair) until I realised that he wrote or co-wrote some great pop songs - he's not just a "boy singer".

I had a friend who was a keen model railway enthusiast, who was in awe of Rod's layout. Apparently, when he moved to Essex from California, he arranged for a container to bring it to the UK and then built an extension for it.

I couldn't believe it when I spotted him on my high street, but I've been told it's not that uncommon. He seems to have come through the rock'n'roll era unscathed. Good luck to him!

I did not say that he was a k/nob.

I said that I used to think he was a bit of a k/n*b.

I was inferring that I was wrong.
I was wrong ie he is not a k/nob

I started this thread which is all about praising the bloke.

All clear now?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Jan-23 11:31:39

growstuff he pops into our friends pub for a pint sometimes, he really is one of the good guys nowadays.

There was a programme on BBC2 a few weeks ago where Dermot O’Leary interviewed him in a cinema showing clips from Rod’s past, it was very interesting no holes barred.

I think I'm the same as you Fanny.

I understood what you meant.

Thank you growstuff
I think that he actually actively cultivated his laddish, rather naff persona.
All tongue in cheek.

Elton’s nickname for Rod is Phyllis, and Rod calls Elt ‘Sharon’

He’s not taking himself too seriously here

Yes! We’ve never had it so good!
🇬🇧 🤩 🇬🇧

I remember that one!!

And the pound in your pocket
Well, a pound doesn't go far these days - nor does a tenner!

he's not just a "boy singer"
I'll have you know he used to sing with the late, great Long John Baldry, no less!! 😃

A lot of people knew of Michael’s generosity prior to his death.

Perhaps I should ask for this thread to be deleted as it’s not worthy of discussion?
Perhaps I should have put it in Chat? 🤷‍♀️
But seeing as the MSM have decided it’s news; it’s news regardless

It is news and furthermore it is good news, well done Sir Rod

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 12:52:20

It is actually nob if you are using it as an abbreviation of nobhead, which I was

FannyCornforth Fri 27-Jan-23 12:53:52

This is interesting (well, to me)

Good on you, Rod!

25Avalon Fri 27-Jan-23 13:10:04

Remember when he left the country to avoid paying tax? Is he now paying it back? Pardon my scepticism.
